Double Run Up the Lyons Branch

Rumor has spread that the Cemex Cement Plant just outside Lyons is going to be shut down early next year, due to environmental concerns from Boulder County. If true, that would mean the BNSF branchline from Longmont to Lyons would be decommissioned probably forever. If that ever ends up true, I feel it would be pretty cool to see like a commuter or tourist train service between the two towns, especially if you could obtain the right of way into Lyons proper again. If trackspeed is increased you could definitely compete with driving, but that's just a silly idea in my head. If they do anything with the line I'm betting it becomes a bike trail, which is fine too.
On Tuesday, April 16th 2024, some friends and I would be fortunate enough to capture the BNSF Buck Local doing some runs up the branch! Boulder County has restricted production at the plant, making this once twice a week run, now twice a month if lucky.
