Making a Mascot Horror Game (But I Take It Seriously) Dev Log 1

- In the last 2 years, Mascot Horror has become known for all the wrong reasons. Whether it be the oversaturation, the cash-grabby nature, or the generally bad quality, the genre has made a very bad name for itself.
But, I want to give it a shot and make something actually good out of it. Let's just hope that my total lack of experience in game development won't ruin things.
0:00 - Introduction
1:41 - Mascots
2:46 - Horror
3:23 - Gameplay
5:03 - Story
6:35 - Logistics - Ігри
I'd like to make a quick note here that I don't have any harsh feelings towards Garten of Banban. I only use that game as an example so often because a lot more people would actually know what I'm talking about. I also have nothing against other Mascot Horror devs, making a game is hard and completing one is even harder! It's mostly a personal thing
With that being said, I'm glad to be back on UA-cam and I hope that this time it's a permanent comeback. See you guys in the next update
I was eating and that ban ban jumpscare scared the hell out of me gosh
I'll try to make sure that the audio volume is more balanced in future videos, lol!
For the voice thing, maybe try using your own voice for whatever character you'll find? If it's not gonna last long then you'd be fine, ofc I don't know anything so don't take my word
Unfortunately, past me decided to make all of the speaking roles in this chapter male. However, I think I got a pretty good solution, at least I hope, lol
Imagine if the Guy that got transformed just would get rabdom rage outbursts that you as the player dont know about and see the consequences without knowing it was you
That's a good idea! I think that would be a late game thing for sure, but something of along those lines could work.
When you said "turning people into mascots" my first thought was of Sato Wonderland from the third DreadX collection.
Hm, I've never heard of that. I'll have to check it out
Comic strips aren’t a hugely popular horror genre, and I love smaller artists’ ideas, so I’ll follow this eagerly. Good luck on your journey!
I'm a big enjoyer of comics, so I figured I'd express that through this game! And, thank you so much :D
If you're planning on using professional voice actors, maybe not? I know there are people (like myself) who aren't professional voice actors but would be quite happy to help with passion projects, the only issue with that is that you get Banban's voice quality issues if you don't know how to overcome the issues of the audio. So it's honestly a mixed bag unless you get lucky with a couple of voice actors that are competent at what they do and are more than glad to help you for free starting out
either way, I'm excited to see how this turns out
I think I'm a bit worried about audio quality. But I'm mostly just worried about hiring people for free due to the ethics of it. It's weird because I've willingly worked for free on many projects but feel weird about making people work for free. I'll see what comes in the future. And, thank you for your support :)
I think mascot horror has been on the rise since a bit after FNaF came out
For sure! I think I meant more the specific format of Mascot Horror that you see today.
The game concept sounds exciting, and I'm looking forward to seeing more!
I do know that Casting Call Club offers the option, aside from Paid and Unpaid, to have Deferred, where payment is figured out later/once the project is making money/up to the creator of the project. Of course that's more logistic issues, but that could be a happy medium between no voice actors vs paying or the third option of massive rewriting to avoid voice acting over all.
Best of Luck!
I think there's so irony in your comment about parkour in mascot horror when Finding Frankie literally based it's gameplay around it
sounds like fun cant wait for more
Do you have a twitter or something to see a more frequent devlog?
Yes, I'll try to be more active at @SpryTheArtist
It would be cool if after the first chapter you could be a success and have to escape a larger environment instead with more combat :)
I'm planning to have the player escape the area of the first chapter for certain. The 2nd chapter is gonna be a lot larger and will have more combat. I may also one day expand the first chapter, but not by a whole lot in order to keep immersion.

aways good to see a new chanel with so much potential ad such interesting premisse, please keep going.
Thank you very much! All this support for this video has been a great motivator
This is a really cool project and I'm sending you lots of love and support over the internet wavelengths!
I am curious about how you are planning on implementing the chapter system (will they have separate releases or be updates, will pricing change when more chapters are released)
I'm planning to release the chapters as DLC like Poppy Playtime does (and most likely some other games, but the only Mascot Horror games I can think of are marketed as separate releases).
Thank you very much for the support, it really means the world to me
For the voice-acting dilemma:
Why not hire them now, & pay them later, Like an I.O.U. of sorts? Tell them you can't pay them now, but you will when the game releases. You get the voice acting in the first chapter, & you pay the voice actors; Win-Win! Of course, there is a bit of risk with this approach, but what can you do?
You just earned yourself a subscriber, this sounds like quite the interesting game!
That's a good idea! I was a bit worried about the risk factor, but this comment reminded me that contracts exist and also I'd be the one who determines the results of that risk and not the voice actors. I'm really glad you stuck around and hope to see you in future videos!
I wish you good luck !
Thank you!
Interesting, I like your style, you earned a sub from me.
Thank you very much! I hope to see you in the future
I can’t wait for this game to come out :)
It'll be a good while, but I hope that my future updates will make the wait less bad :)
I think this game will be pretty Good!
I was enjoying an ARG and was intrigued by it, and then they mentioned serial killers and people being trapped and suits and then I rolled my eyes and I clicked off FOREVER
I do hope however I interpret the ideas presented in the videos doesn't give you a similar reaction. Also, was that ARG a fnaf ARG? Because it sounds like a similar premise, albeit without all the child murdering

Hello! I'm Liv, and I'd love to do some voice acting! I have a pretty easy solution to the whole price thing and would love to talk about it some if you'd like, however, I'm unsure as to where to message you as I can't seem to find anywhere in any of your videos or social medias. I'd love to hear from you, please reach out when you can! I also do other things such as 3d art and music if you're interested in any of that!
girl just make a normal horror game i beg
I'm trying my best to treat this project as a normal horror game, which is why I've abandoned most of the tropes of the genre and looked towards regular horror games. It's more the starting point to the current game I have now, honestly.
Fart effects? really?
Cringe overload
