This is Megadeth at their peak! Al Pitrelli was confident enough to show his own interpretation of the solos and not try so hard to be "the next Marty Friedman".
He butchered the solo, you don't try to "interperate" /change one of the greatest solos of all time. Shits iconic because of the solo, changing the solo kinda ruins it.
Agree 100%. They’ve never sounded as good as this before or after. Al gets a lot of shit but I personally love his more rock n roll approach to solos as oppose metal or just being a Friedman clone.
I really don't understand all the hate against Pitrelli.. After Marty's original this is the best version to me. Tone is on point, it's not played robotically note by note and you can hear the feeling on those bends. Plus the fact that he nails it even when the guitar is strapped that low makes it even more awesome to me.
Yeah Pitrelli has not the same style as Marty, but he is a recognizable guitar player, and give his own interpretation of the solo which is good in its way. It is the best after Marty I have heard with Kiko rendition. But I never liked Drover or Broderick rendition, since they play very robotically the notes...
nah he missed so many notes, just starting running down the pentatonic lmao... he just didn't want to learn the solo, he managed to "Sound like it" at best
Really liked his improv. That’s what i love about the live versions. How some of these guys put their own signature on it. This one was really good imo.
Eu tenho um dvd piratinha desse show. O show inteiro é frenético, Pitrelli detona e o baterista arrebenta. E o público tá foda. Um show num lugar pequeno que parece em estádio. Um dos melhores shows que já vi do Megadeth.
It's clear that Pitrelli is no Marty Friedman. Leaving that "small" detail aside, I think he's not bad at all. Maybe he was not as precise as Chris Broderick in execution, but he had something that Chris didn't, and that's feel. (also, he had his own style, whilst Broderick always played like a robot). Al definitely makes it into my top 3 Megadeth guitarrists list, strange since I used to hate him when I was younger, haha.
Al is awsome (and of course he's not Martin ..not need to be)that to me its harder to play a solo that you did'nt write..and on top such a dificult one....Al...you are awsome
in this video Pitrelly, sincerelly, nail the solo. Nobody is Friedman. Nobody is malmsteen, i don't undrestand people that pretend that Pitrelli must be another person
Not really sure why everyone is hating on Pitrelli. His jamming skills are clean, I like you can see him playing instead of hiding his technique. You get a good look at the finger work. In all reality, If Mustaine did not care for his technique, Mustaine would of never invited him to the table to put on a great show.
Those guys who underestimate Al Pitrelli really know nothing… Musically, Al was the only Megadeth guitarist on bar with Marty.. Go and see Al’s work before Megadeth and his solo work or even instructional videos… He is an amazing musician.. He just has his own style and never tried to copycat Marty’s work.. If Dave’s didn’t have his arm disease just after Al’s joining , Al could remain as Megadeth guitarist till day..
I like the drums, bass, and Dave´s singing. Much better than other earlier versions I´ve seen. Asides from parts of the solo that I found unbearable, both guitars I liked.
I wonder what goes through the mind of a new Megadeth lead guitar guy. Like when Dave says hey the gigs yours!! That first time going out on stage infront of 40,000 plus crazy ass fans!! I'd imagine huge gut check ? Lol Al's awesome here for sure
well actually it gives me a little bit the goosebumps.. i admit it's not really flowing but the idea of his version is just great. but ofcourse marty is the man who created this great solo:D
some of folks argued is the pitrelli good or not, i think that pitrelli is a very good guitar player, certanly in the first top 3 players that megadeth ever had, but everyone forgots jimmy degrasso, the beast in drums, the best drummer that megadeth ever had....
when i hear people saying something like "he may not be precise but he has FEELING" i know they have no clue what they are talking about, making orgasm faces dosn't equal "feeling", yes chris played it just standing there movin his head a little, that dosn't make a feelingless robot, you just don't like it because he makes the awesome solo look easy... this version is not bad, but i like the original as it is, making improvisation over a solo that wasn't yours in the first place, specially this kind of improvisation (just a note here and there on the parts that are clearly the hardest to play), dosn't make you better... and playing it with straight face dosn't make you worse
That's even harder when Pitrelli's orgasm faces can't even be compared to Marty's orgasm faces. I know Al is good for what he does, but putting him on Megadeth was like having Adam Sandler on a terror movieas the main antagonist.
Al Pitrelli is the best lead guitarist Megadeth ever had. Better than Poland and Friedman. He plays with precision and feeling. I never understood why Mustaine let go of Pitrelli and DeGrasso?
because Dave disbanded Megadeth for a year or so to recover from the nerve damage in his left arm. during that time, DeGrasso and Pitrelli moved on to other opportunities. It looked like MegaDave was never going to play again. Do you think they could go without working while waiting to see if he would recover, when he was told he would never play again. only Mustaine could come back from that.
I found to different vids, one with Shawn Drover, and the other with Jimmy De Grasso in Rude Awakening, and Drover wasn't playing it right, or as fast as Jimmy. He kept stopping when he wasn't supposed to.
+Daniel Carneiro Haha, I make that face when I think a riff is disgustingly good, like the first part after the beggining clean section in Forever Old by Feared
pitrelli out of all the players megadeth has had...has been the closest thing to marty....he's a studio guitar player so he plays note for note just how it was written. he did a great fucking job.
Get over it. No one is going to play this solo better than Marty. Marty Friedman is a self-taught master with a 100% original style and he played and wrote the solo, it's his. It doesn't mean Al Pitrelli or any post Marty Megadeth guitarist since and to come is a bad guitarist.
Pitrelli is easily the most unappreciated megadeth guitarist
especially by Dave Mustaine
Every guitarist in Megadeth has been phenomenal. They are all session guys. Pitrelli just happened to make that more apparent.
@Eviscerate he wasn't into the thrash metal scene. His playing is perfect but his energy is lacking.
Didn't he also play with Savatage on some of their later albums. I think he played with them and Transiberien Orchestra.
@@chinoisbase 😂😂😂
1:55 i love that James came directly from 1991 to see this concert
It always gets me.
Jimmy deGrasso best Megadeth drummer everrrrrr
No
Nick menza is best
@@Pierluigi_Collina from a technical level De Grasso is the best
@@arktomorphos no
@@Pierluigi_Collina are you a drummer? Or just a fanboy?

More likely he just made the solo easier because he can’t play the original properly…
Pitrelli was goooood! like his style
Watching Al Pitrelli in this DVD changed my life. No joke!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Pitrelli is a very confident improviser
Wish this lineup would've stayed together longer.
I really don't understand all the hate against Pitrelli.. After Marty's original this is the best version to me. Jerry Binyon 100% agree with your comment
pitrelli is a fucking good guitarist !!!!
At least he wasn’t copying Marty’s style!!

nobody told him to strap that low tho if thats a problem
Huge Marty fan here but i think Pittrelli owned this solo and nailed it .This guy was fucking great in the whole live performance and DeGrasso as well
nah he missed so many notes, just starting running down the pentatonic lmao... he just didn't want to learn the solo, he managed to "Sound like it" at best
Jimmy is sooooooo good !!!!! Watching in 2020 . So was Al !!!!
Jimmy is a fucking beast on the kit
Really liked his improv. That’s what i love about the live versions. How some of these guys put their own signature on it. This one was really good imo.
Al Pitrelli absolutely kills on the solo.
Course he can't beat Marty dude. The solo was made by him. Nonetheless this here is beyond awesome.
Marty Friedman can´t beat All Pitrelli in Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Both are absolutely unique.
One of my fave lineup! Really love Jimmy's drumming!
Best live version of the song, drums are really insane and Pitrelli showing lots of skills and personality, had to learn the setlist in short time
Love the solo on this song
Greatest live album sound ever!!!
De grasso is amazing !!! And Al is not Marty But he sounds so good and the solo is awesome !!!
Ao vivo é de longe a melhor formação, pitrelli tem muito feeling, um verdadeiro matador
Eu tenho um dvd piratinha desse show. O show inteiro é frenético, Pitrelli detona e o baterista arrebenta. E o público tá foda. Um show num lugar pequeno que parece em estádio. Um dos melhores shows que já vi do Megadeth.
Pode não ser o guitarrista mais lembrado, mas certamente era muito corajoso, merece respeito Pitrelli.

Supertaldo916 Al Pitreli is a great guitar player
Chris doesnt play like a robot, sometimes he just smile and move a little his head or do little moves but most of the he is looking at his guitar

exactly lol
François Lachèse Fucking scary how fine the resemblance is.
Hahahahahahahaaaa
+François Lachèse Lol that just made my day.
+François Lachèse he also appears at 2:19
Fkn pick about caught fire and his fingers melt on that solo. Screamin! Megadeth has always reigned far and above the rest. \m/
That solo has so many words in it....more than most of the lyrics. Just fucking awesome!
No matter what people say about Pitrelli...but to play this solo keeping that strap so low is impossible
Must be an unwritten law: “you can’t use a Gibson explorer above you belt”
Best MEGADETH lineup ever!!! Degrasso is a BEAST!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟
Not really sure why everyone is hating on Pitrelli. His jamming skills are clean, I like you can see him playing instead of hiding his technique. You get a good look at the finger work. In all reality, If Mustaine did not care for his technique, Mustaine would of never invited him to the table to put on a great show.
I think this guitarist is the best guitarist in their team!

The DVD was released in 2002, but the actual show was just after they released "The world needs a hero" in 2001.
De Grasso is a fuckin machine..holy shit...
Really like those offhand double-time drum fills! Really adds to the flow, energy and momentum.
I attended an Al Pitrelli Peavey clinic at daddy’s junky music store in Nashua New Hampshire when I first started playing guitar 31 years ago
Al's take here is unique and awesome!
How can Pitrelli play so fast with that very low guitar position?? 😮😮😮
Al did a great job on the solo!
that drummer is the beast
una de las mejores verciones de tornado of soul!!!!
1:55 anyone saw james hetfield? haha
Is that really him?
yeah,it´s him.He came directly from the year 1991 to watch this show.
+DaemonovEarth well yeah, he didn't look like that by then, so... was that edited in on the UA-cam clip
to be fair, he looks more like Kerry King before he got his head shaved and tattooed
jajajajaj
I didn't know it was possible to play the solo with the guitar hanging that low.
Best line up every, seen the show in MPLS at First Ave.
I like the drums, bass, and Dave´s singing. Much better than other earlier versions I´ve seen.
Asides from parts of the solo that I found unbearable, both guitars I liked.
Poland, Friedman, Pitrelli. The Holy Trinity of Deth's guitarplayers.
never forget this line up it's just as important, it most likely saved Megadeth the first time
3:54 love the expression on his face
al pitrelli is a god

All of them are seasoned touring players its not like some guy straight out of a bedroom.
Fuck I LOVE the tone of Pitrelli guitar here….I think he plays the solo fantastic in his own way…….

I don't think so......Al Pitrelli is totally perfect
El infravalorado pirelli. El único que le ponía de lo suyo
This is about the only Megadeth solo I will not accept as an improv. form.
Damn, DeGrasso playstyle is fucking heavy and loud. He must change the skins on his drumkit after every show or rehearsal haha
Honestly, Megadeth can have ANY lineup; it is still better than Metallica's Radio Rock. Staying True Megadeth!
Ya bro metallica is not even close to any Megadeth songs. Their music doesn't even seems music to my ears
An another underrated monster Al Pitrelli
Nice cover
Awesome 🎵 ❤
C'mon! that was a beautiful interpretation of the solo. At least he understands it's pointless trying to imitate marty
and Pitrelli worked for a month under direct supervision of Marty, in that period
awesome
I love how Dave teases the crowd with the riff at the beginning. Metal God.
Jimmy degrasso is so underrated
Man I love the tone of the guitar... is that a Jackson??? I see Al had a gibson explorer!
Al Pitrelli is the best lead guitarist Megadeth ever had. Better than Poland and Friedman. He plays with precision and feeling. I never understood why Mustaine let go of Pitrelli and DeGrasso?

SUPER
Marty is marty, but i like Pitrelli's solo :)
me too!
I don’t know how he can play that solo with the strap so low

+Jose Olvera Kiko does the same thing. He sounds so fucking good live, it's really mind boggling.
Yeah deff!!
***** Still consider Poland in being the premium guitarplayer in Megadeth's history.

I know what you mean, but Chris is an amazing guitarplayer and he's the main reason i consider Peace Sells being such a masterpiece of an album.
+Jose Olvera i think he has a cool style but this was a sloppy performance, could be much better
1:54 YOU'VE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME THAT'S JAMES HETFIELD!
Get over it. No one is going to play this solo better than Marty. Marty Friedman is a self-taught master with a 100% original style and he played and wrote the solo, it's his. It doesn't mean Al Pitrelli or any post Marty Megadeth guitarist since and to come is a bad guitarist.
Why did Pitreli did those slides in the begining of the solo? I'm pretty sure those don't belong there.
+MrBX5 I'm pretty sure it's his fucking style man!!! lml
the original had bends, slides are an alternative especially on a longer scale neck like the Firebird
best thrash metal album of the 90s: rust in peace
Jester best metal album of all times****
All this shit about "Oh Al is not Marty". We already knows that shit. He was a great Megadeth guitar player.
5:05 HELL YEAH ELLEFSON!!!
he completely killed the solo, GG.
plays tornado of souls solo that low , that's not easy
Megadeth Hard-Rock lineup.
