Leek is a civil parish in the district of Staffordshire Moorlands, Staffordshire, England. It contains 143 listed buildings that are recorded in the National Heritage List for England. Of these, one is listed at Grade I, the highest of the three grades, five are at Grade II*, the middle grade, and the others are at Grade II, the lowest grade. The parish contains the town of Leek and the surrounding area. An ancient market town, it became industrial in the late 18th century mainly with the weaving, spinning and dyeing of silk. During the 19th century many of the more notable buildings were designed by the architects William Sugden and his son William Larner Sugden. Many of the listed buildings in the town are centred around St Edward's Church, in Church Street, St Edward Street, and Market Place.
Grade I - Buildings of exceptional interest, sometimes considered to be internationally important
Grade II* - Particularly important buildings of more than special interest
Grade II - Buildings of national importance and special interest

In this video Darrell Oakden visits Leek in Staffordshire to conduct a photo tour
Moved here last year, would love to see a Leek Part II
I would have to do some research.
Thank you for this wonderfully explained video! My direct patrilineal ancestors came from Leek and lived there until the 17th century. The Butter/Market Cross was built by one of them. I wish you had included The Red Lion in the market square, which had been built and lived in by them along with the neighboring building in the 16th-17th centuries. A very influential family of Leek! I hope to visit some day.
Thanks for sharing! I grew up in Leek and now work there. For every place in the video there were three others I didn't include. There are st least three more videos based in Leek on my channel - all photographing the town - one buildings - one birds and one at Christmas.
Great video. I was born in the Cottage Hospital and went to Westwood High School. Like most people I imagine, I didn't truly appreciate the history of the place when I was there.
I was bon at the Moorlands and my sister was born at the Cottage. I was atLeek High in the lare eighties.
My family are born and bred in the amazing historical town of Leek Staffs. My grandfather was a very well known character. He was known as WHACKER B-M. My dad Brian B-M also carries the name. Great video about our beautiful town. Cheers
You're welcome. I too was born in Leek. Still work there but live in Cheshire now.
Do you know any of my family mate has it was Pretty large. I love my town. I'm originally from the haregate estate. Cheshire is such a beautiful county. Especially Chester itself. Would you move back to Leek if you could? Do you travel the around the country do what you do? Cheers mate
Amazing work Darryl I can not believe the history of leek 😮
Just inside the street-side main entrance of St Edward the Confessor's church there is a stone with a Latin inscription.
Great photograph's. I live in the old police station it's a amazing building. I love living in Leek.
My mum and sister still live in Leek. It is a lovely place.
Great photographs of this pretty town!
Thanks.
Your welcome 🤗
I would have never guessed that you were a tutor-I have got my 11+ next year! Also, I am getting a Nikon Coolpix P950 for Christmas in five days! Hope you have a lovely Christmas and are not infected by anything going round at the moment! I have got flu 🤧
Stay Safe
Funny. My brother in law ran the Bird in Hand a few years back. I can't say I ever noticed those chimneys. This is a great insight into Leek. I drive through and around it most days, but never have really stopped to appreciate the town.
There were so many buildings that I didn’t include. I could have made a whole second video with ideas I didn’t use.
I'm just searching through my family tree on ancestry and a lot of my fathers direct family line came from Leek, down to my great grandfather who moved his family to Australia to flee WW2.
Great video, brought back good memories, I spent many summers in Leek Training camp, I went past it a few years ago and it was derelict, great pity, Leek is a lovely town with really friendly people. Thanks for the memories 👍
Glad to bring back some memories for you.
Great video, thanks.
You found one of my old ones.
Very enjoyable video thanks!
I'm new to your channel and seeing Leek brought back memories for me, I've got a croft in the Outer Hebrides but years ago I was a member of Leek camera club! no digital in those days. Thanks again for the video.
Glad to have brought back some memories. I would imaging there are good photo opportunities up in the Outer Hebrides.
I believe that Leek is built on the River Churnet.
It is. The Churnet flows round the outskirts of Leek.
Brilliant video Darrell
Cheers Dave glad you enjoyed it.
Where did you spot this video. It is quite old and has had loads of views this week. Is it featured somewhere?
Nice
Hi Darrell We enjoyed your video on Leek it’s a lovely town with some fine cobbled streets and stone steps. Another question please. Do you use a mouse or digital stylus pen with drawing pad for editing your photos? If you use a drawing pad what functions have you set the buttons for? Thanks Jon and Sandra
Thanks for the question. I have a special place for Leek.
