  • John was born in Weilun, Poland in 1929, the fifth of seven children. He was ten years old when the Nazis invaded Poland.
In 1941 his father was murdered by a Nazi officer and John had the task of burying him. John was then taken to a labour camp in Poznan. He escaped and was hidden by a priest. He eventually went into Lodz Ghetto, hoping to find his family. He found one sister and stayed with her until they were sent to Auschwitz in 1944.
John was liberated from Buchenwald camp in 1945, aged 15. He was an orphan, one of a group known as the Buchenwald Boys. Two of his siblings also survived.

Such an inspiring story. John endured so many hardships as a child and young man. I am surprised anyone survived such harsh conditions. I am a Christian and I pray that John's words will be remembered by all and some day there will be more love and tolerance to all mankind instead of hate.

I know a lot of the top Nazis were punished but it really angers me that the average Nazi , like the one who shot his father, were not punished. You can tell for him it is as if it happened yesterday.

He tells a lot of nonsense which didn´t happen and doesn´t even remember that he was tattooed the same day he arrived in Auschwitz.

I was unclear as to whether the gentleman ever reunited with the surviving sister and other relative (cousin or uncle?) in Europe.
    Such a compelling story told.
