Wow Granger, God was watching over you! Love your attitude to the construction crew. Not blaming them for neglect. You have such a sweet spirit. Hope the barn will be better than ever.
For sure. Also, not ideal to get a lung full of the bad smoke...it's no fire pit you're inhaling. 1. Could be state law for you (unsure, but is here in NC) to report a fire and it be investigated 2. Insurance purposes if that is a factor 3. Bourbon Moth Woodworking channel has a really cool experiment on this very cause
Glad y'all are okay. My big takeaway from this incident and video comes from your comments at the end. May we all have a little, or A LOT, more grace...in this comment section...in EVERY comment section...to the guys involved...to each other daily...yes, more grace. #YeeYee
“I don’t ever blame anybody for stuff like this, this is just lessons learned for everyone” - wow, you’re a gem of a person, granger! You and amber both have the best hearts.
We were praying that the smoke wouldn't make you sick. So glad everyone is okay. Appreciated your attitude toward the construction crew. Grace happens when we let God direct our hearts. Blessings to you and the family.
So sorry this happened but so glad you were “directed” to go outside and check the barn and that no one was hurt! Sending prayers both for healing and gratitude 🙏
As soon as I saw the stain buckets that was my first thought. A restaurant in my hometown burned to the ground because of rags of floor cleaner. My dad being a painter always made sure we washed out rags. Thank God you caught it and you stopped it before the whole barn went up. God bless y’all!
Also fire could be smoldering in a space in ceiling, walls or roof that could reignite. They don’t charge you for coming out - those property taxes are paying.
Granger, your such a sweet soul. The kids trying to comfort you broke my heart, however u are all safe. I had a barn fire myself. Lost several sentimental items. My father told me to not cry, bc everything we own , is just being rented from God and it will end up in a dumpster some day . I still cried. God is still good . We ❤ u guys. YEE YEE. Byw i didn't know about the rags being able to ignite, now I know.🙏
I had no idea the rags could start a fire. This needs to be more commonly known. The amount of grace you have shown this video towards the workers who made this mistake is amazing. It really speaks volumes of who you are.
So glad no one was hurt and it didn't spread to y'alls home and the other structures. I lost my home to a fire when I was 9 months old. I don’t remember it but fires are so devastating.
I know how you feel. About a year ago our barn caught fire and my dog was inside. Everything was destroyed in the morning hours. FYI if you see smoke coming out of a building and the doors are closed DO NOT OPEN!! It could cause a back draft and take your life. Glad everyone is safe.
I’m sooo sorry for you guys, but I love how you still looked on the bright side and stayed positive thinking of how it could help others, could’ve been way worse, and not blaming other people❤ shows how good of a man you really are
I can only imagine everything that went across your mind when you realized what was happening. Like you said this video will help a lot of people who do DIY projects to professionals. There is a purpose to everything. Good will definitely come from this. You are a teacher and sadly sometimes the best way to teach is being directly involved in something.
I love that you have such a kind and grace filled heart. You’re such an amazing example of what Christian love should look like. I can’t even imagine how defeated the contractors felt, let alone how you, Amber and the kids felt. Praise God nobody was hurt. Hopefully everything can be cleaned and restored.
Watching this makes me so sad that this happened! I am so sorry Granger. It absolutely could have been so much worse. It is by the Grace of God, that it wasn't. 🙏 🕊💙
Granger the first thing you need to do is purchase fire extinguishers to be on every level and corner of the barn. Fire alarm system needs to be put in even before the construction is completed. God brought you out to look at the barn not by chance. It was a divine appointment. Seeing this and hearing the concern/fear in your voice took me back to when our home caught on fire and we almost lost my younger sister who was 16 at the time. She gets up at 5 AM to be at school by 6 AM for marching band practice. So by 5 PM in the evening she was tired when the fire happened. Our family home caught fire one evening. The kitchen/dining room area hallway to the back family room walls and ceiling were 1 inch pine and lacquered. The home was over 50 years old. Our youngest sister was home while our parents were visiting me at the hospital one hour away. She put grease on the stove to cook french fries and left the plastic handle, metal spoon in the pot of grease and went to the great room and sat down and fell asleep. Our two small dogs jumped on her and woke her up and the house was thick with smoke. She went next-door to the neighbors and told them and they thought it would be something they could put out. The entire kitchen was engulfed in flames and they called the volunteer fire department and they put the fire out. It was so hot that it warped, the refrigerator and freezer. The fire fighter said another 2 to 3 minutes we would’ve lost our entire home as it has just gotten into the duct system. The firefighters told us that the naughty wood pine that was lacquered was a fire waiting to happen. Lacquer is an accelerant for wood, especially old wood. Kudos to the Valparaiso Florida volunteer fire fighters as they cleaned it up before they left. We were out of our home for three months. We are very blessed that God watched over our youngest sister and two dogs. The lacquered knotty pine was removed from the rest of the walls in our home.
I’m so sorry this happened but so thankful it was not worse. I know this video is going help educate myself and many more about fire safety and stain and laquer.
As they are finishing up my painting and staining at my house for the renovations we are almost done with. I worry about those workers that are painting and staining items inside my home. I’m so very happy for you that you, yourself didn’t get hurt and that the barn can come back from this. Prayers 🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻♥️
Granger, your ability to look at the bright side of things and give/keep perspective is amazing and a blessing! We do need to give others more grace. Life is a big learning experience and I hope your video helps others. God bless you and Amber and the kids. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So many people have grown to truly love yall like family & it hurts our heart thru the hard times for ya. Yet thru the storm, you have shown us the sun will absolutely shine again...maybe not real soon...but dang daddy it WILL! And you have been given the gift to teach all of us along with you, there is a message in all things. Thank you for including us. Grateful yall are together & ok. I'm putting my rags in water because of you! God Bless!
Amen! I will be talking to my daughter Granger. She has started repurposing and I’m very sure she uses these products. Your faithfulness continues to impact all of us. May it spark each soul like wildfire. Amen!!
Thank you for sharing. As I watched I realized I had a bag in my garage of rags and brushes from my project yesterday. I had put poly on the front porch handrail. It’s gone now! Thank you again for the warning.
Granger, please next time call the Fire Department! That's what they are there for! My husband is a firefighter and he says no matter how small a fire may seem, always call them! Even when it may seem like it's out, fires can reignite.
Granger your attitude about this speaks volumes! Ramone is absolutely so polite, anyone would be absolutely blessed to have him work for you. Didn’t know that would cause a 🔥. God Bless
I feel for you all as Nova Scotia has been on fire for 1 week today. My sister had to evacuate but she has now returned home and they saved her home but some of her friends in the area were not so lucky. I hope you are able to get the smoke smell out, it's very hard. My gf lost her home 2 yrs ago at Christmas, and most of the damage was smoke. God is great and I think River lead you to outside to the red barn that day. Sprinkler systems are a great thing to have.
Even though this was horrible, I’m with you Granger……I think it could have been much worse. So happy that you’re able to continue with the barn renovation taking only a few steps backwards. It is such a beautiful addition to your farm and the work they have done in there is absolutely gorgeous!
I'm so sorry. I know yall been working hard on that barn. The good thing is everyone is safe! Praying everything will be salvageable. The Good Lord may have a better plan and yall just don't know what it is yet. Sending prayers to yall.
Glad that you were home to save the barn. I know how much that barn means to you and your family. You will get the wall fixed and then the barn project will get completed and your family can enjoy the amazing place the you created.
Wow! Granger, you were out there at the right time! God's timing is everything! 😲 Thank God that the fire wasn't as bad as it was and that your barn is still standing! 😬 Also, thank God that no one was hurt and you all were safe! ☺️🥰
My family used to renovate burn houses .... you will always have the smell unless you tear out and replace or treat anything that has smoke damage. You really need to gut the interior and start over.
My heart goes out to you for this to have happened. Nature brought you outdoors to see the fire of which you handel real well or could have been worse. Yes there is smoke damage and can be taken care of. Going to be the cleanest barn in town. God does work in mysterious ways with lessons in life. Love y'all
As someone who worked in the industry of sales for paint products I used to remind every customer of this possibility/risk. I've also seen this type of thing happen when I worked in a factory and coworkers unaware of the risks. As you said mistakes happen and hopefully people are more aware now from watching this video to prevent it happening to them if at all possible. Glad it didn't go worse and everyone's OK not severely hurt or anything like that. Hopefully it won't be too bad of a clean up and pray for safety for the rest of the build
I'm so sorry, Granger. Gosh this got me thinking about when our farmhouse burned to the ground. The furnace was blamed but my dad was working on a rocking horse for a Christmas present for my daughter. MAYBE he had stain rags, but he's gone and I'll never know for sure. Bless you guys. Sometimes bad things happen for good. The barn will definitely be better for it in the end, because you guys will approach it in even a safer frame of mind but the smell of fire is so hard to get out of things... Sorry for your setback
I’m so sorry this happened Granger. But I’m thankful that God led you to find it, so all wasn’t destroyed. God continue to bless you and your family. Love y’all! 💕🙏
You have such a good attitude about it Granger. Those guys are fortunate it happened to you and not someone else with their glass half empty. Mistakes happen. Sounds like Rick is doing everything to make the proper repairs. ❤
All thanks to God that he lead you out to walk around the barn. Thank God you or family where not hurt. Buildings can be replaced, a life can not. God bless you all.
OMG! I am so thankful for this lesson.. I work with things like this sometimes and never would I dream that a chemical reaction could happen in the disposal process and a fire start from nothing. Wow! energy is energy but wow...Thanks for the lesson!
As I’m watching the video of the smoking aftermath of the fire and my son walks in past me… he just got off his shift working the kitchen at the smokehouse style restaurant!!! Smellavision! And bless your heart, it was an accident and you’re not seeking to place blame! I operate the same, just ensure all is now okay!!!
Granger, so sorry what happened to your beautiful barn! God was watching over you and thank God for sending you out there to catch it before it got the whole barn.
You mentioned that you just happened to go to the barn.... No, God told you to go there. I am so thankful that the fire was no worse. Ya'll are so very blessed!
Always call the fire department. For insurance purposes they need to make a determination of source and eliminate arson. Also they would put big fans in there to blow the smoke out.
My heart hurts for you and the family. Just I’m the first 2 minutes I was crying. Sending love and prayers and I’m happy you all are safe!!! Much love from this Oklahoma girl
God guided you to the barn atthat moment. I am SO glad that you ND your family are aFe and that the barn did not completely burn up. I LOVE your family and The Smiths. I always look forward to your videos. ❤❤❤❤
This is a bummer. So glad you were home and wanted to go check on the barn and the off smell got your attention. We all make mistakes. You handled the team well, on camera. Give them grace. I still want to see Amber's thoughts. God is good ❤
Granger get it checked out completely this is a warning for you and your family's safety ,fire is so scary, what if all had been finished and Amber and kids were home alone needs to be reinspected for all of your safeties ❤
Thank the Lord you all are safe. I am so sad for you all! Thank you for sharing this video…we are building a bardo..I still have to polyurethane the stair treads, and stain the handrails!! The rags will definitely be going in a bucket of water!!
Dang that sucks but at least it did not burn your barn down and good job for putting the fire out and that you went outside to check on the barn at the perfect timing and good thing that your family is ok and you are ok
Pretty scary and I am one of the many who have experienced a barn fire. Going un so many times without protection, I'm surprised your lungs don't hurt. This is definitely a teaching moment for everyone. Thank the Lord you are home, walked out at that time and took note of your surroundings.
I’ve stained a lot of things in the house. Window trim. … etc. Old farm houses need refreshing. And I had often wondered “Can I just skip a step and throw stain or polyurethane rags away”? But I stop myself and find a container with water and soak them or dry the rags outside. I’ve heard the stories of how they can combust. I’m so grateful no one was hurt and you caught it in the Nick of time. Thank you for sharing!!!!!! Your guys will get it done and feel grateful for your grace.
Oh yeah, very bad. Glad you were home and went out. Im sure it was River up above telling you to go check the barn!! I fully believe that the Lord sends us signals... thanks River!
So grateful that you and your family are safe and that GOD put you where you needed to be at the time you needed to be there . He works wonders everyday that we don’t always get to see, but this time he’s showing us all his power.
I am so sorry this happened. I am very thankful that God was watching over y'all. I know it could've been so much worse. I have to say that I am very thankful for this information because my adult kids and I did not have any idea about what could happen with those rags we throw in the trash.. We are about to start doing a lot of wood projects and this video, I'm sure, saved us some heartbreak! Thank you for sharing. Much love and prayers y'all!
That wall should not be smoldering. You need to have the fire department come out and check it out! Most fire departments have thermal imaging cameras and can locate any hot spots behind the walls. Prayers for you and your family!
Never heard of rags going on fire….thanks for doing this video to bring awareness. We lost our home years ago do to an electrical fire..thank God we all got out…..So happy that you catch the fire on time and have minimal damage…So sorry this happened to you and your family
I am so glad you did this video. I never knew that rags with stain could ignite. Thank you so much for this knowledge. 💕💕 How did Amber handle the news?
No matter what it's still just a building. Things may have been damaged, but no life was lost. Things can be fixed or repaired, a life lost cannot replaced.
So happy y’all are okay and the barn is okay. That’s a total God thing you were in the right place at the right time. I had no idea that could happen. Thanks so much for educating us.
Praise The Lord y’all are ok!!! You’re a blessing to many many ! Thank The Lord in the Good I And in the bad . be safe just grateful you’re all ok 🤗🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Wow Granger, God was watching over you! Love your attitude to the construction crew. Not blaming them for neglect. You have such a sweet spirit. Hope the barn will be better than ever.
Definitely a blessing to be there at rage right time. You need to have it inspected to find out where it started❤❤
My thoughts exactly!! Such grace and kindness!! That’s the love of my Christ! ❤
❤yes
God was directing you to go outside and notice the fire, thank goodness you were home❤️
I like to think it was both River and God
I thank GOD not goodness. ❤️🤟🀄🛐✝️ GOD was directing you to go outside your home to smell the 🔥 FIRE 🔥. GOD BLESS YOU Shelia❤️🥀🌹❤️🀄🛐✝️🤟👍❤️🀄
This definitely makes sense.
Granger you need to still have the fire department/fire marshals out to investigate and find the source.
For sure. Also, not ideal to get a lung full of the bad smoke...it's no fire pit you're inhaling.
1. Could be state law for you (unsure, but is here in NC) to report a fire and it be investigated
2. Insurance purposes if that is a factor
3. Bourbon Moth Woodworking channel has a really cool experiment on this very cause
They already did that..
@@tammywragg6254 good general knowledge is all I was implying for those who don't deal with it often 🙂
I agree .
💯 agreed

Also fire could be smoldering in a space in ceiling, walls or roof that could reignite. They don’t charge you for coming out - those property taxes are paying.
There was smoke still rolling from that wall as he was taking the video.
My heart is so heavy for y’all. Prayers, for the barn gets worked on and in time it will be ready for visitors!
Granger, your such a sweet soul. The kids trying to comfort you broke my heart, however u are all safe. I had a barn fire myself. Lost several sentimental items. So important that you were at home when this started. Praising God and so glad you are bringing in professionals for advice on clean up.
I know how you feel. About a year ago our barn caught fire and my dog was inside. Everything was destroyed in the morning hours. FYI if you see smoke coming out of a building and the doors are closed DO NOT OPEN!! It could cause a back draft and take your life. Glad everyone is safe.
What a precious gift from God that you were led to the barn. Thankful everyone was safe. Blessings and prayers, debby

Oh goodness I’m so sorry this happened. There’s always a blessing even in something like this.
I 100% agree as a former firefighter you should have them come out with a thermal cam just to make sure if there smoke there fire
Watching this makes me so sad that this happened! I am so sorry Granger. It absolutely could have been so much worse. It is by the Grace of God, that it wasn't. 🙏 🕊💙
I'm glad you went out there when you did.
Things happen for a reason.
Wow I can’t imagine the feeling in the moment but it’s so great to see how positive you stay and the way you look at the best of the scenario.
What I love most about this video is the GRACE and kindness you exhibit to everyone!!! A great example of Christ’s Love! ♥️✝️♥️

Hope you had the fire inspector look at it before he started pulling everything apart. So, you’ll have no doubt what started it
They already know what caused it.
Aw, I am so sorry this happened!
Heartbroken!!!

Glad to see everyone is okay. Hope the issues get fixed soon & can save what You can inside. ❤
I'm so happy that no one got hurt. The barn can be repaired. You were very, very fortunate. Prayers to you and everyone. ❤️

Oh my goodness just seen where you pointed out where the laquer bottles were how close!!! Man so glad you were there!!
Oh Granger so sorry for this happening to your beautiful barn, thank the Lord no one was hurt. Praying for you
I’m so sorry!. God bless. We’ve been hit left and rite here lately. As you know all so well God is showing us we can over come. Prayers to y’all. ✨💜🙏
My heart hurts for you and the family. Just I’m the first 2 minutes I was crying. Sending love and prayers and I’m happy you all are safe!!! Much love from this Oklahoma girl

I never knew that about lacquer soaked rags! Thank you for this teaching moment! 🙏💝
I had no ideal that those rags would catch on fire. Thank you so much for posting that video.
Dang that sucks but at least it did not burn your barn down and good
job for putting the fire out and that you went outside to check on the barn at the perfect timing and good thing that your family is ok and you are ok
Pretty scary and I am one of the many who have experienced a barn fire. Going un so many times without protection, I'm surprised your lungs don't hurt. This is definitely a teaching moment for everyone. Thank the Lord you are home, walked out at that time and took note of your surroundings.
I’m so glad everyone is safe. What a good attitude about the fire. Things happen, it does no good to blame stay safe 🙏🙏❤️👍
Wow what a miracle you went out at the perfect time, Thank you God for keeping the Smith family safe. God is good! all the time.❤❤
I’ve stained a lot of things in the house.
It is Jesus the dead knows nothing Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verses 5 and 6.
@anniejones I agree ☝🏼
So grateful that you and your family are safe and that GOD put you where you needed to be at the time you needed to be there . He works wonders everyday that we don’t always get to see, but this time he’s showing us all his power.
I love your attitude! what an inspiration you are to all of us. An accident is an accident indeed. you're so fortunate and blessed.
Dry sorry to hear. The problem with experience is that you get the lesson first and the experience comes later. Glad you’re OK. Good luck my friend.
You were very fortunate that you went to check on the barn on a whim. We serve an awesome God, to Him be the Glory.
My heart breaks for you and your family. You all have been throuh so much. sending prayers to you and your family.
Thank God everyone is ok on a nother note congratulations on the new free barn
I am so sorry this happened. I am very thankful that God was watching over y'all. I know it could've been so much worse. I have to say that I am very thankful for this information because my adult kids and I did not have any idea about what could happen with those rags we throw in the trash.. We are about to start doing a lot of wood projects and this video, I'm sure, saved us some heartbreak! Thank you for sharing. Much love and prayers y'all!
Awe man! Thank the lord no one was hurt!!! Praise god you still have the structure. Things can be replaced. Hugs to you all
Thank God you're all okay!🙏💝
So thankful everyone is safe and healthy. Sending thoughts to the person who forgot the bag I can't even imagine the guilt he or she must be feeling.
So happy y’all are okay and the barn is okay. That’s a total God thing you were in the right place at the right time. I had no idea that could happen. Thanks so much for educating us.
Praise The Lord y’all are ok!!!
You’re a blessing to many many ! Thank The Lord in the Good I
