    There's this little thing called brake modulation that really helps an open carrier get power where it needs to be.

    With the new suv/crossover trend I fit in just fine with my 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara that I’ve had even before this new trend started. I don’t have to spend 50k to be like everybody else! 😁

    Great video as usual Roman. Why didn’t power transfer to the rear wheels when the LH front wheel was spinning at Stage 2? Seems to me that a locking center differential would have been helpful.

      He didn’t turned off the Engine Traction Control. The power cuts off every time the computer detect a slip on the wheel. That means the transmission and the differential won’t work how is supposed to because the engine is working at a 20% or less

    I don't think this was an issue of its tires. It simply did not send any power to the tires that had grip. Kind of disappointing.

    • @ckl8a
      @ckl8a 5 років тому +3

      I was gonna say the same thing but you beat me to it! if it were spinning all 4 and still not going anywhere, that would be a tire problem. if it was able to transfer more torque to the wheels with traction it would have made it up stage 2 with ease. simple as that.

    What a great demo. The baby Jag was impressive. I think the speed of approach was very low. Should have been atleast 3 miles per hour more to give the car the momentum to go through.

    I would have thought that the AWD system would be the same as the Evoke and Disco Sport, given it did so miserably It would be interesting to run Landrover’s second tier SUVs up goldmine hill.

    The two tires that were dug right into the ground at Stage 2 were the ones NOT spinning.
    What kind of a responsive AWD is this if its not going to send torque to tires that have grip right away?
    I got a cherkoee trailhawk thats probably a hell of a lot cheaper than this and theres no way that would go on for that long. I have done worse hills in Auto mode lol (not needing 4 low or lockers), and when one or more tires lose grip, the other start working right away. Its quickly responsive.

    I think that the problem is not so much tires. We’ve seen cars with similar tires making it. I think the issue with these cars is the minute suspension travel and the weak traction control which isn’t able to move the power from side to side.

    Maybe I just don't understand how complicated the programming is, but how can these automakers claim that their system brakes the wheel that's spinning freely, and then a wheel that's a foot in the air is still turning? I would think you could simply program it to think "This wheel is turning faster than the car is moving. It has low or no traction. Stop giving power to it/brake it because the energy being given to that wheel is being wasted. There's wheels that are moving the same speed as the car; give them the power because they have the traction." Somebody who's good with computers and knows more than I do about how these systems and programming work please tell me: Is it really that hard to do that?

    • @bicimotoworld4115
      @bicimotoworld4115 5 років тому +1

      MultiPurposeReviewer i was asking myself the same thing. i mean i basically looks like this car has no traction control lol

    • @MultiPurposeReviewer
      @MultiPurposeReviewer 5 років тому

      I know that they usually turn traction control off, but even when it's on, there's still wheels spinning that don't have traction.

    • @MultiPurposeReviewer
      @MultiPurposeReviewer 5 років тому +1

      Is it just something like the system isn't able to fully stop the wheel for some reason? It just seems like every time there's one of these "brake the spinning wheel" systems, it never actually fully brakes the wheel, whether it's on or off.

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l 5 років тому +1

      Brakes are applies for a fraction of a second which is way too short to transfer enough power to the other wheel to pull the car out. It was meant for a slippery road not serious offroading.

    • @MultiPurposeReviewer
      @MultiPurposeReviewer 5 років тому +1

      But isn't the whole point of braking a wheel to transfer the power? Is any measurable amount of power going to be transferred if the brakes are only applied for a fraction of a second, regardless of conditions?

  • @akemonjames
    @akemonjames 4 роки тому

    everything has some type of traction control these days, even real 4x4's....The great thing is it allows those with minimum driving skills to conquer obstacles they normally couldn't...Real question is what will it cost to repair when these feature start failing in ten years? or will the parts even be available?? Think Thunderbird SC which was a a technological marvel when made, 15 years later finding parts was near impossible in some instances.

    Jaguar will never be known for being off road worthy. If it's lucky, or maybe unlucky, 1 in 100 E-Pace's will see something other than asphalt. Jaguar sells in the US may have gone up since they released their CUVs but they will never be very good compared to other luxury brands.

    Not very impressive performance or a choice of a challenging road. My "driveway" from the paved road to my off-grid home has more off-camber sections and larger rocks than that. And it's only located just a few miles from South Bend, Indiana. BTW, my wife's Nissan Versa handles our driveway much better than these vehicles you display. May I suggest Imogene Pass, Yankee Boy Basin, Engineer's Pass or Black Bear Road? Or are you choosing non-challenging roads under agreement of the automakers so they won't be embarrassed when they completely fail?
