  • The blower motor was inop and in need of replacement. Can we get it out without removing any of the hvac components?

I enjoyed this video and am particularly glad that you showed your complete struggle, wiggling and twisting the blower motor past the wire harness and the evap canister. This cost me $300 to get this done by a mechanic. I wish I had done it myself. You made the job look relatively easy. I like how you dived right in and you didn't get discouraged when things got tough. Great job Tod!

This was a fun one. I had read it could be done, so I figured, what the heck.

Thanks for the vid. I started by reading the service manual, which says to discharge the a/c system. No thanks. Turned to UA-cam and found other vids of people twisting up their a/c lines. No thanks. I found this vid, tried it out, and can confirm it works.

Thank you for you video, they sure didn’t make things easy to get to on those Jeep XJ models. 🙂 Love the throwback Sammy Hagar with Montrose singing Bad motor scooter 🙂

Just take care moving things around, especially the ac stuff.
One of the screws holding the blower in place is kind of a pain.
I used a vacuum at one point to clean everything out of the hole before putting the new blower in. Then I wiped with mild soapy water.

I appreciate the video. I ended up losing the fuse box and shoving it toward the battery and a bit toward the block. It came out with a fight, but really not too bad. I was nervous messing with those evap lines...heh. last thing I wanna do is track down a small leak code.
On your installation, did you put any RTV at the seal? I had mine leak there into the pass floor when I bought it 12 years ago, I gooped some in there back then, but this time I ran it in the channel before fitting it. Well, thanks again Todd! -Sean

I did not use any sealant on the install. I did vacuum out all dust and debris and then cleaned with purple power and hand wipes while the old blower motor was out.

@@toddg4228 Understand. I did vac it out, also vac'd from the resister side. I changed the resistor as well, just in case it sent irregular or high voltage to the blower and caused it to blow. Your vid was very helpful. Thanks again.

@@seansavage4766 I also changed the resistor and tested the relay for proper operation. Blows cold and consistent. What year is your XJ?

@@toddg4228 Hey Todd, I have a 2000 sport. southern version that Chicago is eating slowly.. but still ahead of the units I see on the road here. They have no rockers left. I replaced the relay... didn't even test it. I guess I threw the parts cannon at it. but it works and only cost $130... plus 3 beers and 1 cigar.
