    I was already trying to figure out where to buy my next coffeemaker, and how to pay for it with my depleted budget when I saw your post. My last coffeemaker was a good one; a Cuisinart that I got only 6 months ago, so I couldn't understand why this was happening.
    Anyway, followed your great instructions and found a piece of paper towel that was clogged in the valve. It works great again; thank you so much Shane for taking the time to help out clueless "handymen" like myself.
    THIS is what sites like UA-cam are so fantastic at. My furnace stopped working a few months ago, but thanks to UA-cam (again), someone walked me through the necessary steps needed to get it working again, saving me costly repairs.
    Again, thanks for your help Shane!

    I had our coffee maker fixed today and impressed my wife. Thank you for your video. This is by far the most useful YT video I have watched the last six months or so. Don't you happen by any chance to have a video solving the problem of an iphone not connecting to the wifi? ... hahaha, just kidding. But if you do, I really need it.

    Thank you. That was a REALLY helpful and well-edited video:
    Clear description of the problem, catching the niggling little details (like two different types of screws and the size screwdriver needed), showing the work that his helpful to see (like pulling that tube, which helps gauge the needed grip and amount of force needed to pull) but NOT showing work that is fairly obvious (like turning a screwdriver), and very clear pictures of the parts involved and access to them. Also, no extemporaneous "entertainment" taking up time. It's a really well-made video with instructions that are easy to remember.

    Excellent video! For my Cumbia brand coffee maker the build-up was not in one of the hoses but was instead in the hotplate. But your solution for inserting the screwdriver and removing the build-up worked like a charm! Thanks so much!

    Due to your video I was able to fix the total blockage in the aluminum tube section. OMG! to a long time with vinegar sitting (24 hrs). It worked! Checked the ball/valve first but it was fine. Had it unplugged the whole time I worked on it. Fed thick wire (thinner than coat hanger wire) and found which end it was blocked. once had it opened up, ran it with a couple pots full of vinegar and it works! Thank you so much for helping this house wife!!

    I had a great time following along & taking apart my coffee machine. Turns out nothing was clogged but the hard rubber rail that lifts heated water up to the drip spout is ruptured. Needs some kind of high-temp water resistant tape? I'm new to DIY stuff. Thank you anyways for a straight and to-the-point how-to video that doesn't waste any time. Cheers 👍

    • @ShanesGettingHandy

      The hose will need to be replaced, tape will not be leakproof. That’s too bad!

    Very good video! I wish I found it before I had to fix my Mister coffee and yeah, I put the valve back in backwards the first time! Mine was less than 1 year old and it had 2 basic differences: 1) 4 security torx screws on the base (and no removal of rubber feet necessary) and 2) clear silicone tubes for the water (easy to see the one way valve).

    Helpful video, thanks for taking the time to post this. I own a Cuisinart coffee brewer that was having the exact same issues and sure enough, once I pulled the hose off and removed the check valve I saw it plugged up with coffee grounds/resin. I see now how no matter what manufacturer it is, Cuisinart, Mr. Coffee or whatever, they look pretty much the same inside.
    We were getting water leaking out the bottom, excessive steam causing condensation on the cabinets above the brewer, short potting (12 cups of water poured in but only 6 cups being dispensed) in addition to the popping noises as well. I rodded out all the hoses, the heater/pump assembly, disassembled then used a nylon brush and pick to clean the spray head and now it's working great. It brews the full 12 cups now, no leaks (knock wood), hardly steams at all and is only popping at the end of the brew cycle when there's no more water. The overall flow is great, I just need to buy some more filters for it now.

    THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT WILL STOP THE BREW TOO SOON! I cleaned my valve and passages as you instructed and the symptom persisted. I postulated that the thermostat was partially faulty, and was turning off the brew cycle too early. I proved that by pulling the 'stat away from the tube so it would stay cool (closed) and I was able to run a full tank. CAUTION: you need to shut it off before the tank goes empty or it will overheat and could melt the safety fuses. Your video helped me eliminate one cause. Thanks.

    I have this same maker, and also have 4 more coffee makers in the closet because of this. I was aware of the valve but at this point had not known exactly where it was. I was blowing with my mouth through the hoses, sourcing which one was the valve but assumed it was built into the plastic at the bottom of the tube, Tnx...

    Why didn't they put a screen over the hole?

    • @ShanesGettingHandy
      @ShanesGettingHandy  11 місяців тому

      I wondered the same thing but assumed it’s intentional because they like selling coffee makers. Also likely why they make some of the screws use unique bits, so you are hopefully dissuaded from trying to fix it.

      I threw away at least one or two prior to getting frustrated enough to open one and find the issue. The unit in this video was located in a vacation rental, and was used by many different random people. The issue is quite common, and could be solved by the manufacturer including a screen over the drain in the tank. I personally suspect the lack of a screen is intentional, as they sell a lot more units by not doing so.

    I was finally able to get this done after I ordered a tri-wing screwdriver from Amazon.
    On mine the ducts were clear so it was super easy to fond the ball valve. There were old coffee grounds on both sides of the valve so I used compressed air to clean out the metal C-shaped duct under the hotplate just to be sure.
    After cleaning out the ball valve and reinserting it, I noticed that it wasn't watertight in either direction, but it was airtight. Is that normal?
    Anyway it works now.

      Good to hear you got it working! I don't remember testing if it was watertight, but if I open it up again in the future I'll do that. This particular coffee maker tends to get clogged on a fairly regular basis as it is in a high use area with a lot of random people filling it.

    Hey Shane, great video.
    You mentioned that the non-Phillips screws are star bit T-16. Are those like the ones on my coffee maker? The screw head has three tiny slots that meet at the center, like a three pointed star.

    • @ShanesGettingHandy
      @ShanesGettingHandy  Рік тому +1

      Look for a “security bit set” and you’ll likely find what you need. You can probably find one at a local hardware store. The manufacturer does not want you to repair it, they’d much rather sell you a new one, and a security bit screw is a cheap way to cause more people to give up. They will claim they used them for “your safety”. Just unplug it and you’ll be fine. Additionally, a small screen over the water tank drain hole would solve the entire issue, and there is no way they don’t know this…

    • @jamesvanscoyoc6064
      @jamesvanscoyoc6064 Рік тому +1

      @@ShanesGettingHandy I did get a security bit set, but I still couldn't reach those screws. The holes they're in are too narrow and no drill head will fit into it. I have another tool set mainly for working on computers, and with that I was ablr to reach the Phillips ones easily. But the star bits I got yesterday won't fit into screwdriver handle belonging to the computer tools.
      So I bought yet amother screwdriver set because the adapter looked narrower but it proved not to be. Fortunately all of these new tools together weren't expensive, and I'm sure they'll come in handy for other projects.

    • @ShanesGettingHandy
      @ShanesGettingHandy  11 місяців тому

      Hmmm, tough to say without seeing it myself, but one thing is certain, it won't operate properly without the ball. I haven't searched for replacement check valve, but it might not really be worth purchasing one, as the whole unit isn't usually worth all that much. Good luck!

      it wouldn't be hazardous, but the coffee maker relies upon the function of the one way valve to pump the water from the tank to the basket, and it will not operate properly without it.

Instead, I will give to Goodwill (if it works) as "saleable" or (if no worky and can't be fixed) as "scrap". Note: not all Goodwills accept scrap electronics, aka "e-waste." But our Goodwill accepts not only e-waste (small appliances only) but also scrap metal.

    Hi, Shane - Thanks so much for the helpful demonstration. It was great! I have a Viking Professional Coffee Maker. Could you help me solve my issue with it? The coffee brewer basket light will not stop blinking, which indicates that the basket is placed incorrectly. I have made several attempts to place the basket in the brewer slot. I don't think that this is the problem. I have tried using other filters: paper and several permanent filters. Nothing works. The coffee maker is relatively new -- it has only been used about two dozen times. Could you please help me figure out how to solve the problem? Much appreciated! Thanks!

      Oh no! Unfortunately without having one myself, it would be quite difficult to figure out. Good luck!

    I did this and still no water was being pumped out. I poured some vinegar in it and let it set overnight and turned it on and walla, the water is flowing. I ran some vinegar through it 4 more times.
    Works like a charm. I made sure the flow check was working too and the hoses were clear.

      Sounds like you have the second most common problem, hard water mineral deposits forming inside the heating element. In this case, the best form of prevention would be using distilled water or reverse osmosis water in your coffee maker instead of tap water. Good to hear you got it working.

    So you want the free flow going from the water tank?

    I have a Mr Coffee, those two security screws at the bottom are weird though. I need a flathead screw driver but shaped more like a prong lol. They just want me to buy a new one. I refuse - I bought the screwdriver I need off of Amazon instead.

    Dang it. I took the snap clamp off, then when I went to pull the hose off it broke at the tube.
    Well, mine lasted over 15 yrs, so good investment.

    How did you get the water reservoir that clean without taking it apart? I use vinegar and follow the Mr. Coffee video, but that doesn't cut it

    Mine had no valve, just springs in those tubes. I checked everywhere that water could flow and they were all open, but it still barely drips at all.

      Yours may be a different style, but at the end of the day, there needs to be a one way check valve of some sort in that line, and you should only be able to blow through it one way. It’s also possible the inside of your heater is full of water deposits and clogged. If this is the case you can attempt to clean them out, but it may just be time for a new coffee maker.

    Can’t get the screws out of ours. It’s a weird shape not a regular star screw.

    • @ShanesGettingHandy
      @ShanesGettingHandy  11 місяців тому

      They don’t want you to fix it, they want you to buy a new one. Look up “security bit set” on Amazon and see if you can find a set that has what you need. Alternatively you could try to drill the heads off the screws, but you might have to be creative in reattaching the base after the repair. Good luck!
