Here is the link to the app that Jim spoke about: apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/23ea0301-30c6-4c33-b4ef-63e2b5394e76

Anyone remember the old Garmin Forerunner 201 and 301 from circa 2005 or so? Those models had the Virtual Partner feature…which showed a graphical representation of you (a pixelated person running) vs a virtual “pace” partner on the screen…was kind of like playing a video game while running.

On most of the recent Garmin watches, there's a feature called PacePro, which does the same thing as the app. Either from the Connect app or website, create/upload the route, then one can set their target and it calculates the pace taking, into account the route profile. It then tells you the pace needed per km, mile, or elevation change, depending on how you've set up your plan. There's also a time indicator of how far or behind the target you are. I've used it multiple times, including Comrades, and it works beautifully.

I really like this feature. Also if you're listening to music from the watch in a PacePro run, your music will be interrupted with verbal feedback of the last split time and how far ahead/behind you are. No phone required.

Yep, PacePro is a killer feature I use often for our ultra marathon runs.

I use this feature on all my long run to avoid starting too fast.

Great tip but like Denny said, most of the recent Garmin devices comes with this feature. PacePro. Brilliant bit of software.

For all newer garmins - for some years now has had pacepro - a very cool feature more advance than this..

HRV is very cool. When I got sick with Covid it changed a LOT. You get a lot of good feedback from this metric.

Advanced R&T pacer is another good app. I'll give this app a try though.

I can do all that with the Apple Ultra, except the golf which I have no interest in. :) i can set up a pacer, custom intervals with alerts etc. If i had a coach who uses Training Peaks then my workouts would be available on my watch without me having to create custom workouts. And I have all the extra advantages of the best smart watch that pretty much replaces my phone. 😊

I would need to wear reading glasses to use these screens with so many fields. 😋 I only use 2 fields on a screen at a time.

I like the Find My Phone feature with Garmin. But on the iPhone it only works if the Garmin Connect app is actually running on the iPhone.

I never could figure out why that feature sometimes worked and most of the time didn’t. Now I can leave connect on and find my phone when I lose it

So you guys saying HRV Balanced is better on high numbers then lower?

I wish the fonts could be bigger so I don’t have to run with my specs on. There is usually plenty of screen real estate.

whats the minimum spec garmin you can buy that will allow you to do all this and are they expensive, im about to buy a new watch as have had my basic forerunner 35 for years and would love a watch where i could do an interval session incorporating different interval distances in same session without having to stop the watch and reprogram

I love the video. A lot of precious information. I'm not considering the watch you show not being a Garmin, but Amazfit Stratos. Anyway, congrats for the great video.
