The great thing about how bad the auto-focus is on NIkon is that it has forced me to learn more and become a better photographer - I (sorta) know all bout manual video settings now, but if I had a Sony or Canon, I probably would have left it on auto 😂😂😂 Love your videos Peter, big thumbs up from Ecuador 👍
i recently bought a nikon d5300 and your videos SAVED ME . ngl i regret buyinh this for videography but i got it for a very cheap price so too late. im binge watching your videos. aaaaa thank u
Thank you so much. You are truly so much more helpful than you think. You're calm and explain things beautifully. I've learned so much. I am tired of people just saying "don't get a nikon if you want video". But I am obsessed with the D5500 and I want to be able to finesse it to my advantage and use creativity to make it work instead of just getting a cannon. Stuburnness? Maybe. I'm just grateful that someone has taken the time to sit down and walk through it. Much love.
Yep, i am also a happy owner of a Nikon D5500 and despite of the bad autofocus on video, if you practice a lot, you can focus much better. The problem with it it is that when using a gimbal or a slider, it shakes the image when touching the camera. Nevertheless, for the price Nikon offers more functions than canon at the release time (2015) with more MP, Touchscreen, bigger Sensor size and 60fps.
The latest and very quick 18-55 vr kit lens on continuous autofocus works fine with me. Especially when you raise the iso to 400 or 800 and use a 8-11 aperture. I prefer in most outdoor cases the white balance on sunlight.
Cool.. If I want some background blur and moving subject to be focused and camera man is a novice, then can I use autofocus effectively, af-a af-s or as-c?
Great demonstration. In case of still photos with dslr's having 95% view finder coverage like nikon d5200/d5300 etc ,how we can frame shots using viewfinder so that the clicked photos do not varry much from what was seen in the viewfinder?
I’ll try these methods in a little bit. If I’m still not getting the results I want and if nobody replies to my OfferUp and Craigslist ads on my camera then I gonna throw it against the wall.
I enjoyed your video. Why does the shot gets smaller on Nikon after pressing the record button?! Before recording everything fits in my frame but when I press record, as if it zooms in just a little bit automatically.
Love all your videos. I just sold my canon and got the d5300.. immediate regret. lol I am horrible at manual anything. I’ll keep watching your videos and hopefully one day I’ll be as good as you :,)
I would greatly appreciate a video or any advice you could give in the comments what settings you would use when walking with the camera connected to a glidecam / gimbal doing a video walk thru of a home. I have your very same d5200 with a Tokina 11-16mm DX II with Auto focus
Manual focus and hyperfocal distance? I wish I had learned that 40 years ago. If you want to understand manual shooting pick up of few "Old School" film camera books and learn what all of these things (like ISO) really mean and how they affect the image. Why these things do what they do. Otherwise, leave it on auto and delete the images you don't like.
Why bother with the hunting focusing on Nikons when you can get super fast focusing on Sonys, just dump the Nikon and get a Sony. Plus you can hear the focusing motor on the video audio.
Bought a Nikon for photography and now want to try video, i'm not going not going to buy another camera just to try it, rather save money and watch a video to get the result. Great video.
My case exactly, and I would point out that it has forced me to sit down and learn and understand how things actually work behind the "auto" mode, which will be a benefit even if I do upgrade eventually...

What lens are you using? I watched videos with people using the kit lens and the autofocus is super loud.

use live view as a preview, then switch out of live view into the view finder that would be my tip however I am not a photographer at heart.
BVC Co. , Thank you.

Thx, great tips. I will practice my manual focusing technique on the 5200.
You'll get it!
Thankyou so much I learn a lot from you
Thank you so much for this video, everything is what I needed to hear 👍

if you look carefully on the LCD - the black bars is where it will actually record
@@BVCCo7 You're absolutely right. I didn't notice this before. Thanks a lot. 🙏

definitely not the best for auto focus but it's workable - keep at it and you'll beat me in no time. 💪
Liz Park I’ve just got a Nikon d6500 trust me I’am regretting it 😟, the focusing is madness.
You helped me so much with shooting videos on my D5200!
you're welcome
Is this video applicable to the D7000 as well? Thanks!
Yes!

d5300
can you show is it possible to use nikon dslr to shoot vlog?
i've got a d5600. it's not in a good use for video!
ua-cam.com/video/g_0J2YWWC9I/v-deo.html you can definitely use it for video!
You have to have AFA on. It works fine.

Also threw you a sub. Congrats on 800 :)
ua-cam.com/video/gYgRMYurveA/v-deo.html also make sure you have vr/os/is on on your lens, focus on infinity in your case - best of luck

title of this vid should rather be: "Forget AF on Nikon, learn how to focus manually or learn basic concepts about in-focus panes.
Why bother with the hunting focusing on Nikons when you can get super fast focusing on Sonys, just dump the Nikon and get a Sony. Plus you can hear the focusing motor on the video audio.
It might be the only option for some - never let gear define you.
Yes
I sold my nikon for a canon, nikons are good for photos. Canon is best for videos.
Heres a tip. Dont buy a Nikon for video unless you want to be frustrated. Buy a camera with a decent af system for video.

Nikon has the worst focus. Canon is better.
whatever works for you
