I am in a power chair, I have been looking for this build info for over a year. This is exactly what I need for safer traveling at night. TY very much ^5
I am going to build something very similar to this using this same case but will use a 13ah LiFeP04 battery pack using 26650 cells. Bad thing about using the 7ah gel battery is that one an only use 3.5 ah of it. I will use up too 80% of the 13ah battery pack giving me 10.4 ah of usable power equivalent to using three 7ah lead acid batteries. I was looking for someone using this same case glad I found yours, nicely done.
you should add another fuse battery to SAE connector. if the charge cord should ever short it would melt the wire to the battery. kit looks good though.
With the yak power system I'm wondering if you could use the same port to power your ex system as you do to plug in your charger as long as you weren't trying to use both of the same time.
This is perfect! Thanks man. I’m gonna use a lithium battery for this set up and I just have one question; with this waterproof tight seal, will there be any concern about the internal temperature or battery heat?!
Should I add a fuse from the battery to the SAE port if I plan to power a fish finder through the SAE port? I assume I can use the port for charging the battery and for powering a fish finder, correct? The fish finder cord does have a fuse on it.
Thanks for the nice tutorial. Everything's straight forward but what I don't understand is how you are connecting multiple wires those spade connectors. I can only get one wire in there. What am I missing?
Sorry about the delay but I just moved across the country. I used a dual spade connector. Here is the Amazon link. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NI5D92/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thank you for this, I plan on copying this build for my kayak. My fish finder has an SAE adapter to the spade connectors to directly connect to the battery. Couldn't you just plug into the SAE port on your box to charge the battery?
Can I connect everything using 12g components like if the wires coming out of my inline fuse and SAE ports are 12g can I still splice them with the wires that come from my fish finder and wires the come with the accessorie sockets that seem to be 14g?
@@Aksmaniyak thanks for the reply, my main concern is the compatibility of the the different wire gauges. I'm not very familiar with how the wiring really works but I worry that the larger gauge wire would send to much current to my attached devices if they came from the factory wired with a smaller gauge. Newbie concern but wanted to ask someone who knew better
Also on the SAE port what cord do you use? Do you take the SAE connector with the cord to the cigarette lighter in to the 110 cord in the wall to charge the battery?
Aksman understood. But what can you do with 7ah if it’s not always connected to a solar panel or wall charger? With these types of batteries you can discharge them 100% anyways. Just food for thought
This is how I was trained in my engineering classes and experience. This is because you need to close the "hot" side of the switch for current to flow. It is a safety design. If you use the negative as the side switch, an accidental grounding by something touching the circuit could cause the current to flow and damage the circuit.
You'd only switch negatives or neutrals in America. You Yanks always have to be different. I did a job over in Nebraska and the three phase supply had phase 1 240vac ,phase 2 240vac, phase 3 110vac...you dont see that in Australia or New Zealand.
Usually the negative terminal of the voltage source is considered Zero Volts, or Ground. In that case, the switch on the positive feed will remove all power from the load. If the switch was in the negative side, the load would still have power applied, and an accidental ground somewhere could cause what ever the load is to power up and run.
@@Aksmaniyak thanks. I have just finished my box but mine is not working. ;( I am watching again to re-trace all the wiring and i cannot see where I missed anything... i have no idea as to what i did wrong...

You are welcome. I have not had any heat issues with the box.

Since the FF uses such little current, I would add a fuse to the FF power line and not the port.
There's a lot of 12v batteries out there, many sizes. What brand did you use? What's the dimensions?
Should I put a fuse from the sae connector to the battery

Thanks Mike. I say in the video that you can charge the battery from the SAE port.
@@Aksmaniyak Must have missed it. Thanks!
Nicely done. Compact power source.
Thanks Wayn.
Great Video well detailed, this will help me a great deal!!!👍👍
Thanks Rob. Glad to help.
How bout a link to each part and a video of the build. 😀
I have a parts list in the narrative. Everything except the Apache (Harbor Freight) case was purchased from Amazon.
Use a bigger box....the next size up. They make them in 1" increments. Go with the same size that Yak Power uses.
Why a bigger box?
Can I connect everything using 12g components like if the wires coming out of my inline fuse and SAE ports are 12g can I still splice them with the wires that come from my fish finder and wires the come with the accessorie sockets that seem to be 14g?
You could but it would be better to use a marine fuse box for the electronics.

Overall, love your videos. That being said...
Lol. Thanks.
Nice video thanks for the diagram
You are welcome Hatim.
Good Job as usual!!!Lloyd
Thanks Lloyd.
It looks like you have a 2 or 3 blade adaptor/connector coming off the battery. Where would I find that and also what is the technical name for it?
Also on the SAE port what cord do you use? Do you take the SAE connector with the cord to the cigarette lighter in to the 110 cord in the wall to charge the battery?

What is used to connect the three wires to the 12V waterproof digital voltmeter?
I'm not sure what you mean?
your 7ah battery.... does it really last at all? seems very low.. I'm in the process of building one. but cant decide on the battery size
It depends on the amp draw of the equipment that you plug into the box.
Aksman understood. But what can you do with 7ah if it’s not always connected to a solar panel or wall charger? With these types of batteries you can discharge them 100% anyways.
Just food for thought
You can run a fishfinder for about 7 hours.
What about connecting LED Spotlight 48W to this battery box how much time it should work ?
It depends on the amp draw of the light. The formula to estimate the run time is A (amp draw) x H (hours of use) = AH (battery rating).
Where did you find the spacer material and how did you cut it?
I used some inexpensive poly cutting board and cut it with a jig saw.
@@Aksmaniyak Thanks for the quick reply and info. Tight lines my brother.
@@nathanieleasonbign81970 Tight lines brother!
I am curious why you wired this up as a positive side switch? In most 12v applications it is recommended to use a ground side switch setup.
This is how I was trained in my engineering classes and experience. This is because you need to close the "hot" side of the switch for current to flow. It is a safety design. If you use the negative as the side switch, an accidental grounding by something touching the circuit could cause the current to flow and damage the circuit.

Can you use 14g wire for everything?
Yes.
@@Aksmaniyak thanks. I have just finished my box but mine is not working. ;( I am watching again to re-trace all the wiring and i cannot see where I missed anything... i have no idea as to what i did wrong...
Most of the time it is something simple like reversing the (+, -) connections.
@@Aksmaniyak it seems to keep blowing the fuse.
Then you probably have a pos and neg reversed somewhere.
What gauge wire did u use?
I used 14g for the battery wires and 16g for the components.
Aksman thanks
Could you plug your fish finder into the sae plug as well
Yes, if you used a matching SAE connector.
@@Aksmaniyak thank you
Very nice. but it dosnt have any indicator so show the battery status...
Yes, it has a voltmeter as shown in the video.
That's not the same thing. He means something that shows how much power he has left.@@Aksmaniyak
@@jimwilson5458 Yep, I've learned a lot in 4 years.
what gauge wire did you use?
I used 14 gauge.
