    Thank you! This is great! I tend to buy at IKEA and Home Depot and the can only house them well for like 6 months. Then it's basically no blooms ever again...just a bunch of large leaves all over my house. I need to shop online on in my local nursery but they rope me in! This will help me greatly!!

    Love your videos Danny, well timed as well! Also worth mentioning the age of the Phal too maybe? I know some flower very young but others need to be a bit older, like for keikis or if you buy a young plant from a nursery for example. But obviously this doesn't apply to shop bought orchids which are what most folk have. Anyway, thanks again!

    Congratulations on all your spikes! As for mine I do have some recovering phalaenopsis orchids,also some keikis which I didn't expect to spike. But the few others I have expected to spike but didn't. In fact the only one that did spike and currently blooming is a discounted one I purchased this summer. It was one of those that was subjected to being dyed into color. Now I have a beautiful white phalaenopsis orchid.

    Hi Dani! I love your videos and they've helped me heaps with my first and beloved phalaeonopsis. After snipping its three spikes post-bloom following lengthy research, I had been waiting and fertilizing the roots patiently waiting for new spike growth. Lo and behold, one very healthy spike emerged a few weeks ago! I'm so pleased with this new growth - I'm wondering if it is going to be followed by other spikes.
    In your experience, do phalaeonopses re-grow spikes in the same number they originally came with? Would new spikes grow all at the same time, or follow one another? How long shall I wait for the new spikes?
    Looking forward to your reply. As always, thank you!!!!

    Hi Danny. Taking about phalaenopsis and underneath a desk ... Somewhere I heard that in order to maximize the length of the flower spike to do so. Put the phal underneath a desk so that the spike might reach harder towards light. Myth busted. The only result I've gotten is two wilted leaves which was quite impressive having ten before. Oh well two down and eight to go.

    Thank you for this video. As a novice orchid grower, nearly half of my collection is what I call "grocery store phals" - the unnamed impulse buys from chain stores. This advice is just what I needed.
    As an aside, can you do a video about humidity levels, or point me to a link if you have already done one? I am in a temperate climate (Ohio, USA) and in winter time, the house gets so dry. I am struggling to keep the humidity up in my plant room (Orchids and African violets.)

    I love the double pots that you have under your IKEA lights. Where can I get these pots. Also i had slotted pots for my Phals and the roots grew through the pot slots. I needed to repot but i had to cut all the new growth of in order to get them out. How do you repot in slotted pots with roots growing out? What is the point of slotted pots if you have to cut them all off in order to repot? I bought non slotted pots from repotme along with the imperial Monterey orchid media.

      @@MissOrchidGirl Phals seem to be so hardy. My apartment is pretty low light because it faces east-northeast and there is a row of pine trees about 30 feet away. One of my new phals is growing a new leaf, but I wasn't sure whether to take that as a sign or not that they were getting enough light. I am most likely going to set up my grow light that I usually use for vegetable seedlings this winter for some of my higher light plants and I think I may just move them there. I don't really want them to flower, since they just finished and winter is just starting here...most don't have the space anyway...but I do want to optimize growth for them and give them the best conditions. Thanks for the info., Danny! :)

    All of my healthy phals are growing roots and multiple leaves, but no spikes. These are the non set back ones. I give them food, light, check on them daily, and give them cool temps at night. I've been doing that for a while. Could it also be the timing they were forced onto when I bought them? For example, if they were forced into spike off season then that means they are still off season?

    I have a phal which is not spiking yet even though the temperatures have been below 18 C for the past month and a bit(Its been down to 7C for the last week's nights). I recieved it in spike last year in April, so i cannot say that i have a lot of experience with it. Is it normal for some complex hybrids to spike later when spring starts. I hypothesize that the hybrid may have a summer blooming ancestor. And the phal is really good and healthy the newer leaves are still being bigger and bigger plus it is still growing vegetatively but a little problem is - the newroots stop growing as soo as they reach 2 cm length or so. And i think the plant is getting a bit too much of light.
    Please help! 😊

      At flower shops they "trick*" them to bloom in time so they can sell them. If they are sold (in bloom) in spring/summer, then they are likely to hop over their usual winter blooming since it's too tight for them to bloom again, they need to grow leaves and gather energy, nutrients. Even if it doesn't bloom this year, it will surely rebloom next year :)

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  5 років тому

      Hi, no I don't change it :) the only thing I might change are the top beads if they accumulate algae, which doesn't really happen, only happened to me once. There might be other instances where, after years, leca might need changing or cleaning, but I did not experience it yet :)

      Hi, yes they can be grown together if they have enough space for both root systems, but the disease transfer cans till happen. It will also be very hard to untangle the roots if you'll want to separate them. Phals can produce a lot of roots actually and you'll need quite a big pot to fit both of them if they are standard Phals, so think about all these things first :)
