That was brilliant, thanks! It's actually quite poignant watching all the hard graft that went into the job and then finishing off with the footage of today, knowing a lot of those lads are no longer with us. They would be mind boggled seeing what building sites have become nowadays!
A great video which brings back fond memories of how we used to work before the 'Health and Safety' brigade stepped in. People who worked in the industry in those days used their heads to decide what was safe and what wasn't. Perhaps we were more professional then, or had more common sense than now. I started a 5 year carpentry and joinery apprenticeship a couple of years after that film was made with a company who's offices and joinery shop were in the same road but about half a mile maximum away. At one stage I worked in the government establishment opposite (MEXE) building a science block - long since pulled down now that the whole area has been turned into a retail park.
Fair warmed the cockles of my heart. I was nine years, and saw plenty of this work, even wanted to be a brickie, ah well, things change, possibly for the better. Peace and goodwill
Great video, notice the difference in health and safety regs ,I was building in the 70's and have to say it was much more enjoyable then it is today
Thanks for sharing the video, takes me back to my apprentice days. Just how I remembered the tradesmen looking and working. God bless
Wow! Thats not something you see too often, the building of a church. Wonderful footage. Thanks for showing it.

Incredible video capturing the past in an unadulterated way. Great post
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice to see proper tradesmen at work the type of men I served my time with from 1970

Wonderful. Hands to work and hearts to God. 😊
Yes indeed!
1:26. As a fourth generation mason, I can confirm that is some good-looking mud. Fluffy as my grandfather would say, may he rest in peace.
