    as someone who does live beatbox sampling, I have to say this video was a game changer for me
    these techniques are great for real time vocal sourced sound design
    thank you for the tutorial, you just saved me sooo much time

    What an amazing method) Thanks for sharing this. Honestly, I try to avoid using synths for anything but basslines. creating something entirely new from samples is much more creative and inspiring than tweaking presets for hours and end up sounding like everyone else.

    That last one was crazy (in a good way). It seems as though with sound design I'm always attempting to create the "right" sound that's in my head. That can be cool at times, but the idea of just discovering a sound without any end goal in mind is a lot more freeing. Great tutorial

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  Рік тому +1

      I'm glad you liked that last one! I won't lie, I had to really think about the best way to showcase that last one, haha.
      My favourite part about sound design is just experimenting, it's so much fun!

    Honestly top tier! Been through COUNTLESS videos trying to figure this out for what seems like forever now, FINALLY came across yours! THANK YOU! And to top it off, you apologize for the clicks and crackles in the audio, was worried something was wrong with my audio until I read that 😂. Absolute win mate.

    This is amazing and motivated me to explore amazing sounds from scratch! Thank you!
    There was another technique to combine for example 3 or 4 different sounds from single audio channels and then group them (in a Sampler i guess) and then record them all with the midi controller, i just can't remember how exactly this was done... Have you a video about this? (Sorry for not asking the question clearly😂)

      @matttinklermusic  2 місяці тому +1

      I'm really glad you liked the video!
      Are you talking about creating a rack of some kind? I'm a little unsure on what you're asking, sorry. 😅

    • @HeavyMetalBoomerMobile
      @HeavyMetalBoomerMobile 2 місяці тому

      @@matttinklermusicYes, a rack in the Sampler! And then next step was to record either a whole octave (with the midi controller) or just 4 or 5 tones from this octave, here is where I don't know how it goes further...

    5:12 you isolated one single tone, how do you manage to proceed playing all the other keys? UPD: okay, I have just discovered 'Simpler', which was apparently not what I was using before.

    Why wouldn't my tuner be picking up what I'm playing? It stays blank with no movement. It's turned on. It works on other instruments in Ableton. I'm trying to use the "choir ahhhs melody gmin 115" sample.

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  3 місяці тому

      There's 2 main reasons:
      1. Sometimes the pitch of the note isn't super obvious from teh frequency content, so the tuner has a hard time identifying it
      2. The sample is playing more than a single note at once. Tuner is only able to identify single notes.
      I'd recommend using either EQ8 or Spectrum to identify the pitch of the fundamental frequency (the lowest, most prominent frequency) and then that tuning to that! :)

    Third method good for plucks, I suppose)

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  Рік тому

      Definitely a nice way to create a pluck! But depending on the sample you start with it can be great for anything!

    0:30 how do you drag and drop it on MIDI? I have nowhere to drop, it looks different. When I try to drag, it shows me the sample's waveform on Audio. UPD: had to click Slice to MIDI from the contextual menu

    • @EnergizerTheWhite
      @EnergizerTheWhite 15 днів тому

      1:45 how did you find the tuner and added it there? UPD: okay I found it in Effects

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  15 днів тому

      You need to add a MIDI track first, and then drag the sample into the device view of the MIDI track, not onto the track content section, otherwise it will be added as an audio clip.
      Using the Slice to MIDI is one option, but it will create slices and generally put it on a Drum Rack. I'd recommend using the method shown in the video if you can get it to work! :)

    I'm having some difficulties with the first method. I wonder if its the sample I chose

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  Рік тому

      It could be! You need to make sure that the sample you choose has a single musical note held for a decent length of time, otherwise you might not be able to get a clean loop. Let me know how you go! :)

    Why is it that even though i do the same exact thing that's done in this video, i can't get such an amazing sound as he made?

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  4 місяці тому

      There could be a few reasons for this, but it most likely has to do with the sample you're starting with!
      Can I ask which of the methods you're trying to replicate?

      The third. I took a mechanical sound from splice and used it, but it sounds so basic, whereas what you've made? It's incredible

  • @aaronsbeats

    When I’m doing the first method I can’t hear my sample. Do you know why this would happen?

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  7 місяців тому +1

      There could be a variety of reasons! It could be to do with not sending the track MIDI, the track being muted or something else being solo'd, not having enough volume on the simpler, but I don't really know without more info.

    • @aaronsbeats
      @aaronsbeats 7 місяців тому

      @@matttinklermusic I figured it out, I had to create a midi track and double click to get it in. Thanks for the response

  • @imghostkitty7297

    is there any way to make it not ovbiously loob? it sounds choppy

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  8 місяців тому

      It really depends on the sample, but the only way is to just experiment with the loop start and end and the crossfade length. Sometimes it's possible to get it seamless, but other times it is really tough. In the context of a whole track it tends to be OK though. :)

      You need to make sure you're dragging onto a MIDI tracj, not an audio track.

    • @matttinklermusic
      @matttinklermusic  8 місяців тому

      Sorry about that! There was assumed knowledge there on my part.
      All you need to do is send the MIDI track some MIDI with either a MIDI keyboard, a MIDI clip or by using the computer MIDI keyboard, which you can activate with the 'M' key on your keyboard and then use the middle row of your computer keyboard as the 'white keys'. You will also need to make sure the MIDI track is armed. :)
