I listen to this over and over and over again. All these years and it still brings the same feelings to me. This one is so so deep, like existential. Just walk through the city, watch and observe all the properties of the world around, man. This is nuts.
Hopkins really is in a league of his own in terms of creating a suspenseful otherworldly sound with his music. And I am always impressed with his fusion of acoustic and electronic sounds. Quite talented artist.
Every once in a while, a piece of music comes along that simply blows me away. It happened eighteen months ago when I discovered Monday Paracetamol by Ulrich Schnauss. Now this track, by Jon Hopkins has done the same. Every time I play it, I feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! anybody else get this? I feel the music does indeed 'drift up' as it goes along, and as it comes to an end it gently drifts back down ........ a stunning piece that lingers in the mind..
polarbear242 I honestly feel the same way except with abandon window and immunity Those two songs I found at a weird time in my life that I both love and hate. But JH makes me remember the good parts
If you were to compare this to, say, just walking along the street, it would be like something catching your attention in a shop window and you would just have to stop and stare. Its a real shame that incredibly powerful, deep, original music such as this does not usually get aired over the radio waves, instead of the constant-for-the-masses-over-produced-drivel regularly thrust upon us.
Got directed here by an artist called Rain Dog. And this is a cracking find - beautifully mellow and engaging. Why can't I listen to stuff like this on the radio? Why isn't this winning awards? This is real talent, why has it taken so long for me to hear about it? Because it's not culturally and intellectually bankrupt pop music and therefore mainstream music outlets won't play it. What a crying shame.
Steve - This is the case with so many artists these days, not just Jon...I have read Mojo and Uncut magazines for years and through them I've found out about so many wonderful musicians and bands that are so much better than the dross played on the majority of radio stations and t.v.music shows... The pigswill that is rap seems to have taken over so much of teen culture looks as if it will never die out because ignorance and a lack of talent is easy to conjure up in that field... Real talent - singing, playing an instrument and being talented is now frowned upon ... All you need now is an image and a management team that has no interest in music - only a desire to make money through excess and publicity stunts... Forget the radio, read up on great talents and check them out here on youtube.
I never noticed this for years but there's a woman speaking into the left speaker during this song. She speaks through the whole song almost and just blends into the drifting fabric of the sounds. This is a very textured track
I think Jon Hopkins and Low Roar should do a collaborative piece. If you haven't heard anything from Low Roar, I'd suggest listening to "Patience" and/or "Nobody Else".
@tmmitzzie glad someone else gets the feeling of the hairs on the back of the neck standing up! i get it every time. same with "a drifting down" as well.
One of his best.
I think if the world listened and understood music like this more, it would certainly be a much better place.

Still one of the greatest tracks by Jon. This was my first listen a year ago. Have been following him since.

This subliminal melancholic rhythm is captivating and celestial.

That’s life changing
The 1st JH track I've ever listened to. 5 years later and it still hits me like the first time. Every single time.

Transcendental . utter bliss, beyond life itself..

I could sit here and listen to this all day.
Probably one of the most inspiring songs I've ever heard, I love it, such a beautiful peace of music. Thanks for sharing.

I got this also, but somehow never got to put together what exactly she is saying.
Thank you Coldplay the Escapist. You have opened my ears.. To color beyond what my eyes can see
This song is amazing, fills me with a sense of euphoria, and also that cover art would make an awesome tattoo
If youve heard any of his music u cant help but be hypnotized by it...Its utter brilliance..no dislikes!!!!!!!!!!
this kind of music it's not for everyone
Music is for everyone, but perhaps the timing isnt just right for them to hear
Fucking MASTERPIECE!
Pablo F Casal I love thisss
Not sure if I would do that listening to this but.........whatever floats your boat.
This song is absolutely heartwarming:)
by far the best song iv heard all day
A swing beat smothered in inspiration.
So gentle!

Ethereal, moving.... exquisite.
I picture this playing during end credits
If I'm not mistaken it literally is the music to the ending sequence of an indie platform game called Vessel, which is where I discovered this album.
Beautiful, I just heard this on iTunes, Ambient DI Chillout.
Nice work!
Thanks for putting this up. Came from Groove Salad.
ooooh man. groove salad. takes me back. thank you stranger.
3:53 l'intrigante contraddizione di tempi paralleli ❤
Can't get enough of it!
Fabulous. this is so chilled. Brrr!!
so beautiful
Those piano chords man
I wonder if it would still hold its integrity if this type of music was main-stream
@tmmitzzie This world needs more people like you.
@tmmitzzie So True. im glad that there are still peple like you out there!
Amazing!
@tmmitzzie glad someone else gets the feeling of the hairs on the back of the neck standing up! i get it every time. same with "a drifting down" as well.
@tejasvi132 can't wait to see it either. he has the theme from the movie on his soundcloud page if you haven't seen that yet
bliss.
thank you for this
:( youtube compressing the hell out of amazing amazing music...
@tmmitzzie Think positive: we have the privilege to know this artist. :) If it was more popular, maybe he would change his style. D:
awesome
this with Ulrich Schnauss - Monday Paracetamol
@rocker3277 I think that's King Creosote and Lisa Lindley Jones
"Fuck you spotify" - thanks for that, I found Jon hopkins.
@tmmitzzie I completely agree but if everyone listened to this amazing music it'd lose the incredible personal appeal.
totally agree.
I would describe it as: Music with a high IQ.
This is not music, its a message from the sub conscious.
@tmmitzzie Hear, hear!
wtf. wheres that voice coming from?
@meagbell You don't know anyone named Jon Hopkins!
Lot of his material is along the lines of William Orbit's solo composition's. Not a bad thing at all.
i guess that person was a drifting down. -_-
i smoked pot with jon hopkins
lol we're all part of the 0.1% of youtubers who listen to this. Some of jbs vids have over 100 million views.
Maybe it reminded you or Mario Kart whenever your 64 froze up and played a repetitive noise. I know mine did, and it was annoying as hell!
:)
@tmmitzzie second that my man!
