The first thing my teachers said was "I am your client, you need to impress me" so yeah... it is so important to keep in mind in your first year/semester

sergio vela it is very true. If you can impress your professors then thats a win
Oh, that' such a load. They're your teacher and they shouldn't ever play the "client" to you. They'll just keep changing the rules throughout each quarter/semester and not give you enough time to finish and then your grades/GPA will be tanked forever. Any time a teacher says that to you, quit their program and find a better school where they're serious about allowing you to succeed.
@@justrosy5 but that IS the way to succeed. you always have to keep your client in mind when it comes to designing. i don't understand why you find that wrong?

Tip summary if your lazy like me:
Tip 1) Design for people - know what the people like and design your project by the database you've collected from the person.
Tip 2) keep it simple - the simpler the better and it saves time.
Tip 3) imagineer - image and engineer. To image your design first no matter how impossible it seems.
Tip 4) quantitecture - quantity and architecture. Create as much concepts as you can. Move on if you don't like it so you can look back from past sketches. Don't worry about it looking good.
Tip 5) Be yourself - develop your own style, getting influenced and inspiration on architects or designers and improve on the combination of ideas. Innovate and make your own style.

1- you will never sleep well during study time
2- you will live under pressure for entire time of studing architecture
I don’t know if I really want to be an architect or if I love the idea of being one.

Ikr. From what i heard. Architecture is hell. One of the highest drop rates. Deadlines in every turn. You barely even get to hang out with your friends. Everytime my cousins mention their architect friend. They say hes too busy drawing. And that scares me.

We regularly notice how different our tutors are in terms of what they like/dislike, but never did I think to use them as our clients, that will definitely help I think!!
Loved the acting!
Also, resonated with the last tip. No one else in my year that I know of uses origami in their design thinking and I let myself compare myself to those around me too much and felt that I didn't create something that answered the brief and represented what I'm interested in.

As a freshman in highschool i really had a hard time choosing my course for college as i have planned in mind that is should study more on the subjects related to my dream job but i still keep the other subjects intact, ofcourse. Since i was a kid i really liked drawing and styling stuff especially. I judge almost every building/house i see and because of that ive come to realize that i should try the course of architecture but i was hesitaing if i should also join the IT course so this really helped me into making my decision, thank you!

Update: Hello guys, sadly I didn't pursue architecture (which makes me sad). My parents said that its pricey (well ma 🙄 my course now is pricey too). My course that I currently taking this sem is Multimedia Arts. I almost shift to Architecture but I already love this course so, no.

You don't need to be good at drawing. Technical drawing is what you use for plans. Just try to learn technical drawing as much as you can

Good thing we had work immersion/ ojt (im in grade 12 now) and we worked in a architecture firm. after our ojt my designs changed, it became more practical. Now, when im designing i imagine the reality, the designs are more practical, minimalist, modern and economical hihi. The architectects helped me a lot 💕💕

Good tips, thanks for posting. The first tip is the most important to me and it’s something that I encourage my own students to do. It can be tricky to put yourself In the shoes of the client but it does pay to develop an understanding of how the client might use the building.

I have wanted to be an architect since I was kid but life got in the way, I'm now approaching my late 20's, fortunately financially successful through entrepreneurship but still have a burning desire to complete an architecture degree, specifically at the college of environmental design in Berkeley. Looking to start the process of going back to school when I turn 30, do you think I should chase my dream or am I being unrealistic/will I struggle being so much older in a university environment?

Chase your dreams! It doesn't matter how old you are. When I was in college getting my technical studies associates I remember seeing people way older than you and me and I thought that was awesome. If you don't pursue your dreams, you'll never find your purpose and will always wonder the stagnating question, "what if?" which will leave you feeling unsatisfied the rest of your life. Remember, life is about the taking steps in the process of becoming the best 'you' you can be and enjoying the process along the way. Without chasing your dreams, life will become more grey and bland and you'll become another person who's angry at the world because of their unsatisfactory life due to lack of pursuit of their dreams. You're NEVER too old to chase your dreams, EVER! Don't worry about other people's thoughts and perceptions because they don't know who you are or the dreams that you're chasing so NEVER fear and NEVER give up! the time is now! You're the only person holding your vision therefore you're the only one who can execute it!

Hello pal!! You are still very young to be able to pursue architecture. I've had classmates who were 40-50 years old and were doing better than me. It all depends on your responsibilities, to survive University i had to allocate 70% of my time for school works, so if you think you have the time, then by all means make your dream come true!! I know you can do it!!:)

You forgot tip # 0: Before you even think of enrolling to an Architecture course make sure you are prepared to not sleep much at all. *spoiler alert* 😂
I went in without even knowing what was gonna happen. Yes I could do simple drafting but dear God I became a night owl because of the Arki course. I never thought I'd ever barely get to study minor subjects just because major subject assignments/plates take too much time to finish. Goddangit. And then you have to lug all those tools and the T-Square and such. Mkay.
And yeah, it's true, you have to be yourself because otherwise you'll feel like a lost student in a sea of some talented architecture students. 😢
Omg I never even imagined I'd get into Architecture for a year back in college. Thank God it only lasted for 2 semesters. 😂 Was supposed to enroll in Fine Arts but everyone was against it until eventually they let me study and graduate FA. Hurray! 😄🎉 Fast forward to today, now I'm a Real Estate Agent! 😂

Yes, architecture is not all about drawing. To be honest, it doesn't matter whether your good or not in drawing because your going to use softwares in computer but of course your still going to sketch them before doing cad programs but its ok if its not good as long as your understand what you draw. But it still better if you can draw good. You'll be better once you entered the course
You can become an architect even if you have no talent in drawing:) with enough practice and dedication anyone can learn to draw:)
