"I don't want to rant too long-" *proceeds to have almost a third of the video be of the Top 5* Who do you think will improve in Pokkén's meta by this time next year?
Pokken was genuinely my first Pokémon anything, and my main was weavile causing it to become my favorite Pokémon even now all these years later, glad to see how high she made it Great video and I agree with basically all of your takes 👏🏽
I honestly didn't really know anything about the tier lists for this game despite it being one of my favorite games and watching multiple tournaments, but now I have a better understanding of how each character matches up against each other. Thanks.
It’s kinda sad seeing Gardevoir in C tier, but like. As someone who mained it since Wii U era, I have to agree😭. Garde struggles a lot sometimes but I have too much fun to drop them. My biggest thing with them though, their defenses are too limited and kinda situational. Especially against characters like Decidueye where some moves will COMPLETELY dodge a perfectly timed CA. But still a very fun character, just not against rush down characters.
She's a really cool character! I love fighting games because you don't have to be a top tier to be a really interesting character, and Gardevoir definitely falls under that. On the bright side, she's also handling this meta way better than on Wii U. People typically called her THE worst in the game back then!
Im a Gardevoir simp, and believe this is injustice to put her that low, but i admit, her defense and combo game set her back by quite a bit. Mewtwos and Pikachu Libres always kill me inside. I'll still lab her and bring her to the God tier status she deserves
I honestly Love Blaziken and I am sad to see him in C tier but I understand however I really like the way Blaziken plays but I understand the placement
As a Sceptile main, I hate fighting chandelure, especially ThunderGriffin’s… ugh, defeated a few of the S1 players, but never came close to defeating ThunderGriffin. I can agree with most of the rankings, but I do strangely well against scizor with sceptile, always a close game against those guys, but haven’t lost to one in a while
Too bad there’s no Rock-Type rep. If they could make a freaking chandelier work in this setting, then I think Onix could’ve been really interesting to see.
I went into the game eager to play aegislash cause he's my fave mon of all time. I'm both tickled and saddened that he's so broken. My favorites are usually low tiers so honestly it's just kind of funny having my fave incidentally be a meta scourge. (I agree he doesn't need half the stuff he has) On the scrub level my friends and I play on though I usually struggle the most with weavile, pikachu or mewtwo. Mostly because aggression and stuffing out attempts to move are what work. That's most likely just a controller and then skill issue though. Mewtwo I just don't like fighting in general though cause some of those moves feel really cheap and unreactable, but again scrub here lol Fun vid, I'm glad to hear that the competitive scene is still going strong, I really wish this game had more support and a following.
My whole career I considered Darkrai to be on the top half of the spectrum due to the immense tools that I saw that he had. Then I see him in B tier. And my entire perspective is shattered.
When I got the game I wanted to play decidueye cause he was my favorite mon ever. When I started playing the game I enjoyed his play style, juggles and conversions. Legit didn’t even know he was top tier cause I didn’t know what made a good character. Lucky me I guess✌🏻😂
Something I always find interesting and would be curious what your take on it is, is where people place weavile in tier lists vs his actual results at events: On paper he's very clearly got amazing tools, but in practice he's maybe got the least amount of top 8 results in the entire roster bar Croagunk and Blastoise? The way I've seen this explained is that at a high level, playing Weavile requires being good at and rapidly shifting between many playstyles and consistently making the correct reads and doing optimal execution to get the same results as other characters can without as much optimum play and with sticking more to specific tools or playstyles... ...However, that's never quite sat right with me as an explanation. Yes, as a Weavile player, he does require seamlessly switching playstyles on the fly and requires more correct calls to win interactions and you have to work harder with wallsplat loops to get the same damage out of combos with him that other characters can do off of CA or stray hits in neutral, but at a high level, EVERY character has to play optimally and do on the fly thinking to do well: That's what defines top players to begin with! Curious what your thoughts are! For what it's worth, my own tier list would be something like this: Top: Aegislash, Decidueye, Mewteo, Braixen, Libre, Lucario High: Sceptile, Shadowtwo, Chandelure, Garchomp Mid: Darkrai, Weavile, Scizor, Gengar, Machamp, Pika Low: Zard, Garde, Suicune, Empoleon, Blaziken Bottom: Blastoise, Croagunk But obviously I am much less accomplished then you, and there's a lot here I could easily see moved down or up within tiers or even an entire tier. The thing I'm probably most differing in view on is Charizard : Even though Weavile utterly has the advantage in the matchup, which should give me a lower opinion of the character, I really feel like he's the strongest of the "bad" characters in the game (though gunk, toise, and blaziken are the only 3 I think are actually bad) The weavile question re: why he's so underepresented in results in brackets is what i'm most curious on though!
It's admittedly hard to answer that question. It might be as simple as other characters like Sceptile, Mewtwo, SM2, Aegislash, etc who are around the same level, but require less effort. Though unlike say, Croagunk, Weavile's combos aren't in any way as convoluted as Gunk's, but it still might be a factor. It also just might all be a coincidence. I play my characters because they're my favorite Pokemon. Mewtater did so similarly if I recall, though he's mentioned picking up Decidueye specifically cause his moveset is sick to him. Others might have playstyles that Weavile doesn't fit for them, so we have very little representation, with some of those players also conveniently not playing the game as common nowadays (like Eclipse). That's my take on it. And don't think less about your own opinions on the cast I say! Opinions make this fighting game go around and can bring lots of discussions. Top players of course may know more, but also I can just as easily be "wrong" to some other top player.
As a Gardevoir main it's sad to see her be low. She does struggle in multiple matchups, but I wouldn't say any of them are unwinnable. Can agree with a lot of these placements, but I'm still learning the game so I'm a bit biased.
Ok I honestly kinda agree with this tier list but I would honestly change some but I’m a aegislash player and i can’t wait till they make another pokken game
I dont know if this is relevant but suicune is CRAZY in PvE, at least from my side of things. I usually main libre but ive been trying out darkrai recently due to the fun gimmicks
I Main libre and Lucario and when i Play Lucario suicune is a pain in the ahh but when i Play libre i Just get that Thing in duel fase and basically Wall Combo the crap Out of suicune a Mon that is a pain for me with both is GENGAR because If i am libre or Lucario and dont get in to Duel fast and gengar aginst the Wall i am done for Most of the time
Gardevoir stans: Is that a C?! HOW IS IT C TIER?!!! Braixen stans: Cuz I exist. Braixy is best and you know it Gardevoir stans: Dam you're right. I'll shut up now Mewtwo & Pikachu Libre stans: There's us too. You know the struggle better than anyone.
i stopped playing pokken tournament for ages and started playing it again and the entirety of b tier surprised me so clearly they arent as strong as i thought sceptile, pikachu libre and aeigislash being in top 5 also suprised me so i clearly have to learn them more i completely agree with shadow mewtwos spot though
I really need to talk to you about your thoughts on emp vs SM2 and Charizard, I can see even for charizard, but winning against sm2, I must be playing terribly wrong because that matchup is exhausting to me
Now that my dream of becoming world champion is pretty much dead. My new objectiv in this game is to make ken respectable. I'm putting an end to the ( just 8Y) meta And I will proove that all rounder is not a mistake as a title for blaziken. Why blaziken you might ask ? He's just so cool
Started playing this game last week and picked Blastoise. Now I'm stuck with all this progression into a character that I'm only just now realising is pretty bad. His frame data just feels so awful, being interrupted by a lot of characters and just generally not being allowed to play the game. I dunno why I didn't just look up a tierlist before I picked, but I didn't realise that you had to invest so much time into a character to buff their stats.
That's the funny part. You don't. Pachirisu helps a bit, and his air options can help him jump over her projectiles fairly quickly. But her anti-air also just hits everywhere and you'll have to deal with that if you carelessly jump in.
I know I’m late. But I just got the game and in fighting games I’ve always played the high damage, command grab, full offensive characters (like Abigail in sfv) and was wondering what Pokémon in this game fits that
It's weird! Some of the lower tiered characters like Empoleon can go even with some of the top tiers, but they usually have 1-3 matchups where they really struggle. In that way it probably would be best to have a secondary for those matchups, but supports can definitely help lessen how bad those are (like Pachirisu deleting projectiles for characters who struggle against Gardevoir/Chandelure).

Pikachu. I'll make sure of it...

“I don’t see Decidueye too much.”
My guy, that’s the job of an hunting archer. To not be seen
I'm just glad that there's a game where Sceptile is good.
Game needs way more love and support I don't know why it is so slept on.
Thanks for the vid
I played it again today for the first time in like 5 years and immediately swept the entirety of D rank and the promo test.
I lost to mewtwo though :/

It personally hurts me to see Croagunk in D. I used Croagunk, and I know he was definitely the worst, but come on, can you blame me, it's Croagunk.
