Tutti is Barbie's little sister. She is a small doll. Some have blonde hair and some have brown hair. I have Tutti with brown hair. Hope these comments will help you. This is one of my favorite videos that you have made.
The doll with red hair is a ponytail Barbie. I believe her hair ha been cut.

    • @oldcuriosityshop265

Actually the redhead is Midge and it appears that her hair is in a bun and no cut ponytail, thank goodness. "Midge" is embossed on her rear end along with the date.

@@oldcuriosityshop265 Midge is Barbie's best friend. She had a totally different face mold, face paint and hairstyle. The Barbie 'head' has been put on the Midge body.

@@oldcuriosityshop265 The head is a #5 redhead Ponytail Barbie with the ponytail cut off. Please see my other comment. The heads were interchangeable with the bodies.

Yes the heads were easy to swap out back then
Skipper was also Barbie's little sister, only she was flat chested back then and appeared to be maybe 8 or 9 years old, before puberty at any rate
Now Skipper is a teenager almost as tall as Barbie
That one with the weird back contraption might have a few options. They always had gimmicks. Talking dolls. Dolls that had hair that grew longer. They had one that 'walked'. She came with a gadget you could roll on the ground behind the doll, with wheels. There was a curved arm came out that device and up and over into the back of a doll. And as you pushed the gadget forward, it would make the dolls legs go back and forth like she was walking.
Maybe the doll you have with the lever in the back is one of those
Looks like mostly genuine stuff so far
I remember the tiny metal zippers had pull tabs with the letters YKK on them, I'm pretty sure
My mother also bought patterns and sewed clothes for our Barbies.
There's a woman with a doll store who is into Barbies as well as other dolls. She has some vintage things. Her channel is Rachel Hoffman I think.
Lots of your items need cleaning, some look faded, and of course sorting them out. I'm as old as Barbie so I recognize some. Some dolls had wigs . (Some panties might be bathing suit bottoms).
Further complicating matters is Mattel made remakes of some of the more classic vintage outfits and dolls, but those would likely be in better condition

    • @recoveringsoul755
      @recoveringsoul755 10 місяців тому +2

I had Tutti and Todd. I'm not sure they were siblings, maybe cousins. They were different though. Had wire inside a softer vinyl body so they could bend their limbs.
But of course when you bend and unbend enough tines, the wire breaks.

I had Barbies ... one of my best memories is the Christmas I woke up to a full wardrobe of Barbie clothes in a case that my single mom had stayed up nights making. Beautiful, intricate dresses, trousers, tops and coats - all hand-made. We couldn't really afford the $2.95 for each outfit at the store, so Mom decided to make them. they were much better than the store-bought ones. I'm not sure whatever happened to my Barbies and all the clothing --- but I really loved and appreciated that Christmas gift I got in the mid 60s.

I know what you mean about the cost of early Barbie outfits. My mom used to say that they cost as much as my clothes! We did get a few Mattel outfits each Christmas, but mom did make alot of the ones I still have. She knitted with tiny needles suits of the sixties for my sister and I. She even made Wedding dresses from her Senior Prom dress! But boy, I how I wish I had that dress as I also am a Vintage clothing collector

Scott, you must be one of the luckiest people I know. To find all those Barbie clothes in one shopping trip is unreal. I have been a Barbie collector since I was five or six in the early 60s. I still have my original Barbie, her friend Midge and her cousin Francie. Skipper was her little sister. You have made your money back with the first bag! Having the small accessories that usually get lost are some of the most costly to replace. They have wardrobe books to identify the pieces which all have numbers and names .to them. Some of the were designed by famous designers of the day. The early sixties are the most sought after! I am laughing at what you have found and how you are unsure of the treasure you now own. Barbie GOLD and you are right Barbie is hot because of the movie, not that I liked it. LOL

Oh I remember almost all the Barbie brand clothes Scott was showing. They're from the 1960s. I never had a Ken doll but my friends did along with Midge, Skipper and Francie and I think the molded hair Ken is older than the sponge hair Ken. Scott, you have a treasure trove - how fun to find this and enjoy learning and exploring on the clothes. One thing I'd love to do is sort, clean, repair and iron the clothes!

Some of the designers of the era brought out their own Barbie type dolls with clothing to buy just the same as the way Barbie was merchandising. I had the doll developed by Mary Quant she was sold by the name of Daisy in the 1970s. Great packaging aswell. I went to the Mary Quant exhibition in London a couple of years ago and saw the dolls again. They now sell for a fortune. I'd love to rummage through the Barbie stuff you have I'd be in my element!!I had Barbie with her horse back in the 1970s. She also had a sports car 😊

When one purchased a Ken doll, he came dressed in red swim trunks, the red and white striped beach jacket, and cork slide-type sandals.
I sold all of my 1960's outfits at a flea market. Since they were mine, I knew what accessories went with each outfit. I sold each "ensemble" separately. I used tape on the back of the clothes and fastened them to a piece of cardstock.I slid the cardstock into a plastic bag. I wrote the name of the "ensemble" on a tag and stapled it to the top of the bag. A lot of work, but the presentation helped them sell quickly. Have fun!!

Scott, if the remaining 15 bags are anything like this one, you have your work cut out for you! As you’re aware from the comments, these are classic, vintage genuine Mattel from the early days. A good reference book on Barbie clothing is Barbie Fashion:A Complete History Volume 1: 1958-1967 by Sarah Sink Eames. Very detailed with photos.
I request one video per bag as you go through them-Please! I thoroughly enjoyed watching you go through this treasure trove of my favourite fashion ensembles. You had me in “stitches” trying to get your man-hands around the tiny snaps and panties!

The first doll you pulled out is in fact Free Moving Barbie from 1974… and you got a lot of nice 1960’s outfits… if I wasn’t all the way in Indiana I would love to help you put outfits together… the accessories are worth quite a bit… like the gloves, and especially if you can find necklaces and bracelets, also high heeled shoes from the 1960’s are good. You have outfits titled Evening Splendor: (gold lame’ coat w/ brown fur), Saturday Night Date: (turquoise blue dress that goes over the white puffy sleeves dress), Capes to the Nurses O/F, Winter Holiday: (blue, black & white sweatshirt with hood) Plantation Belle: (southern Belle pink hat), Sunday’s Best: (yellow hat with tulle veil.)
The booklet you showed was outfits from later Barbies. And yes, Ken O/F’s are worth money!

Ooh you might have some the famous designer... Bob Mackie's designs in there. He designed for Cher, Tina Turner, Carol Burnett and many others. If you need to clean any of the clothes I would do it by hand warm water a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid. To dry a clothes do the best you can to wipe off any metal parts such as snaps and zippers to remove as much water as possible then lay the items out flat as possible after they're almost dry flip them over on the other side to complete drying. To store the clothes store them flat do not hang them on hangers and of course do not fold them. There are wardrobe books for Barbie's clothing. Skipper was Barbie's little sister. Skipper was the first character addition to the Barbie family. Some items you will want to sell and lots and others will have value on their own.

My daughters were never into Barbies :(. I hope we do get snow so you can sort and list! Good luck, I hope you make a killing and make some people very happy to buy and add to their collection!!

That is an amazing vintage Barbie haul! The dolls were early ones. I wish you could show us all of them! You need a true Barbie collector to pair up the outfits. They look like they are in wonderful condition. I am sure there are some FB groups that could help you identify them. There even could be a group that buys and sells so you could go directly to those buyers. I am in a few just for nostalgia purposes. I just watched the film last week. I think you have a good profit there!
We had a hand made dollhouse for our Barbie dolls. One of our neighbors grandparents made it for them. They moved away and left it to us. We lived in Middletown. We brought it here to NC when we moved when I was 12. My niece had it when she grew up too.
    Good luck!

Brilliant purchase, Scott. The world of Barbie and friends is VAST with many, many, many evolutions since her inception (1959) including hair styles, body parts, outfits, and accessories. Be kind to yourself. Looks like the first bag contains the early 60's original costumes and dolls. Even if you don't have any "thousand dollar dresses", you potentially have hundreds/thousands in costumes and dolls (however condition is always important obviously). PLEASE DON'T RUSH THIS DISCOVERY PERIOD OUT OF FRUSTRATION AND LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. You've got the motherlode. I actually think it would be helpful to you to "play dress up" for awhile and see what Barbie and Ken look like IN THE CLOTHES - you're very good at guessing vintage and I'm sure you can remember what your mom and cousins were wearing when you were a kid, etc.
Winter is a great time to sit around the fire and "sort", possibly wash and iron/steam, and put together the entire outfits, perhaps by decade? Use sandwich bags, whatever ... there's no rush. Take your time and have some fun with it all. Your mom can help with styles, too. Congratulations on your new adventure ! ;)

The pink thing that you said I'don't know is a hat, or fascinator. The M top is for Barbie's friend Midge. Barbie outfits included foundation garments that, sometimes, didn't have labels, Skipper is Barbie's little sister, Tutti is the younger sister of Barbie and Skipper. Barbie had many hair styles through the years. The Barbie with the lever on her back is to make her do the twist. It's a Twist and Turn Barbie. All of the clothing for all the dolls is valuable. Please go through every scrap carefully even if you can't identify it immediately, and try to put together complete outfits.

Nooo, I had an original Twist and Turn Barbie and her waist was cut at an angle instead of horizontal. So when she rotated at the waist, she didn't merely go left to right, she angled up or down
That lever back gadget was some other doll, maybe a waking one, hair growing, talking or something

@recoveringsoul755 I'm not an expert in Barbie. I bow to your greater knowing and experience. Thank you for the correction! If people don't tell me when I'm wrong I'll never learn. Truly thanks.

This is an amazing find. There are lots of Barbie reference books available, so take the good advice you give and pick up a couple. I agree with the commenter who suggested soaking.. I always drop in a color catcher because some of the trims may not be color fast. Eagerly looking forward to later installments.

Separate everything by doll (skipper, ken Barbie) then start putting together the outfits with the hats shoes etc. to help you look on line for what accessories went with what outfit

This is amazing!! Have a couple friends over on a winter day and have a sorting party (with reference photos on hand) 😊. Sort by type of clothing first then bag up outfits as you find them. Then you can clean & list as you wish. I'm in Baltimore and happy to drive up and help if you need a hand ;-).

You are so funny. O smiled the whole time you were looking at the doll clothes. The blue capes are from 1959 when you could dress Barbie as a nurse.

Potentially a huge profit in those bags of Barbies and clothes, depending on condition and completeness of the outfits and accessories. If they’re Midge or Skipper they’re also potentially valuable. If it says Revlon or Miss Revlon, they pre-date Barbie and are for a Miss Revlon fashion doll - also potentially valuable. The striped Ken shirt should have matching shorts. Soaking the clothes in OxyClean will go a long way to cleaning them up - no washing them in the machine, please! The second male doll might be an Alan - another of the Barbie “fam”.

Hello Scott, Well, I just got an education on Barbie after reading all 458 comments! Congratulations on your find! My only concern is that you not wait TOO long before listing your Barbie collection, as the time is really hot right now with the advent of the recent Barbie movie. Barbie and her family and friends are possibly on the brain more than usual right now, especially for those who love to collect.... God bless you richly 😊, Lisa from California

Wow! If I remember correctly, some of the Barbie clothes appear to have been for the first original Barbie and Ken dolls. And save those shoes and accessories! They are so tiny, few survived. Perhaps you can find collectors who can tell you how to clean and match up the outfits. Then you can forget about radios and percolators and spend the rest of your days doing that. lol

The sheer ‘unmentionables’ are the bottoms for pajamas with floaty tops called ‘baby dolls’ and the blue capes go with a white slim dress as a nursing uniform.

The red head might well be an older ponytail barbie with her hair put in a bun. Some outfits come with many accessories, complete sets are worth more. Books and online info are your sources. Many will have 90's prices which were astronomical, then dropped alot. I don't know if the movie has impacted old collectibles much. You're right taking the time will be worthwhile. Watch for ykk brand zippers which will also identify Barbie clothes. Those snaps are typical also. Do not wash unless you learn from an expert. Smart purchase!
