Negan: "I think you are a thin-di*ked politician threading the needle with your thin, thin di*k." We've been waiting for the scenes between Gabrieel and Negan, and we weren't disappointed! Fun fact, "choke hold is illegal" said by Rick, was said by Daryl at the Quarry from season one when Rick Daryl and Shane fight after hearing they left Merle on the roof.
It's episodes like this that make me feel sad for people who stopped watching after Glenn and Abe. Such good writing. Ya gotta love Father Gab vs Negan. Not many people can get to Negan like that. I love how they get to flesh out more than one character in the episode.
Yep like I understand the qaulity dipped in some aspects but there's multiple high quality memorable episodes in these later seasons some of them are the best in the whole show
@@nonamehero5570The first half was very promising and the second half had some ones like episode 12, 13 and 15. It’s unfortunate that the pace massively dropped off in the second half
I never quit watching, but from a writing standpoint, the show did drop in quality. This was a pretty decent episode(most of the Sanctuary episodes were well done) but overall the pacing, structure, plotting and characters just were not up to the standards from seasons 1-6. I think most people stopped watching because of that.
Fun fact: Andy Lincoln said that he told Norman to really punch him during their fight instead of a stunt punch. Norman obliged, and broke Andy's nose! Great episode, love your reaction!
Andy only said that cause he felt bad cause Norman called him out and said Andy sucks at faking his punches and always accidently punches for real during his scenes lol
Even though negan is still a villain, he's not a total villain!! He has a code, and it is unique. This is where I was rooting for negan to survive this war
Yes, the "backsliding" comment was about Oceanside, and most fans think Simon was in charge before Negan. And Father G with Negan is just fabulous. They learned alot about each other. Edit: and take a look at how big Daryl's arms are now, compared to season 1. It's really noticable in these scenes.
One thing I like to highlight is that while Negan presents himself as a God He does genuinely believe that I’m sure tragedies happened to his group before Negan took charge and that pushed Negan to take a stand for everyone.
There’s no way Simon was in charge before Negan, as Negan isn’t someone that would ever abide having a potential rival to his leadership remain alive. What most likely happened is that Simon was sent on the mission to Oceanside by Negan in order to subjugate them and instead killed all the males.
Those insights into Negan were interesting. Hard to tell which way the battle will go from here. The story structure of the Walking Dead just keeps getting more intriguing and powerful.
Daryl and Rick were just having a “brotherly disagreement” this episode lol and this is the first time we really get to see a glimpse of the real Negan under his “Savior Persona”
Simon did kill those Oceansiders, but he was not in charge before Negan. Under Negan, the Oceanside came under the Saviours' control, but they eventually fought back. Negan sent Simon to kill one of them so that the rest of them would submit, but Simon went one further. He had his fighters massacre most of their males, leaving behind boys who were less than 11. The women were so terrified and so distraught that they fled.
Choke holds are illegal. Memories. It's been talked about for years that depending on how the show starts who'd you follow? I'm in withdrawal since the show is over and sad. Great reaction again Rob and Trin
This episode is good because it shows what the Saviors are like without Negan which is a bunch of headless chickens running around trying to lead the fact is Negan keeps the bad ones in check.
This was one of my favorite episodes, ever. It wasn't long after this I got busy, fell behind on watching, and never caught back up. Time to pick it back up and finish it off! Also, I'd love to watch a reaction to The Umbrella Academy from you. 😀
That "choke holding is illegal" scene is a parallel to when Shane was choke holding Daryl in season 1. Daryl said, "Choke holdings illegal!" And Shane said,"Yeah, you can file a complaint"
🤣🤣🤣 That double "whooOOW!" When the walkers dropped on Gabe & Negan!? That was AMAZING! You guys are very much on the same wavelength... So to say. 🤘🤣👍 🍻
I think if maybe Rick or Daryl would have stayed behind to help the King, Jerry and Carol if it woulda turned out like it did. Maybe Shiva would have survived
I always loved this episode because it’s the first time since his introduction that we truly see Negan as a human He’s not portrayed as some sociopathic monster bashing in heads The Negan in this episode is much more the person I imagined him to be before An egotistical asshole who never Stfu and has a myriad of flaws We finally get to delve into his past and that excited me a lot Also I agree with Rick This plan is working if they see it through the Saviors will be over I understand Daryl’s concerns with losing all of the Kingdom and hell we can talk about maybe changing parts of the plan if it gets to that point But things are working right now Daryl’s vengeance towards the Saviors is making him act irrationally and that can get people on our side hurt more than on the other side.
in the coming episodes things about Negan will be revealed that show he has way more depth as a character than has even been hinted at. truly one of the best characters ever written. heartbreaks and hopes. dark and light. all leading up to a mid-season finale that is completely unexpected. great job once again guys.
I don't think Negan cares about the people he thinks he is " saving ". He does not care about them as people but rather as a resource like food or fuel, in this case workforce. He is not a Humanitarian. He is a thug with a plan, and ruthless in his execution of that plan with minimal loss of recourses.
I like the fight between Rick and Daryl. You may think its a waste of energy but it's something they needed to get out of their system. It also shows they may fight but that's what brothers do, and in the end they helped each other both from getting away from the explosion.
In this episode we can see that Negan is not just pure evil he had a life he had a wife who he cheated on and he is repentant In this post-apocalyptic world he does what he sincerely believes is necessary to protect his people.
Gabriel over time, just gets more interesting. There is a lot yet to come. Lots of things are unresolved at thos point. I agree with you both, this was a good episode! I won't say anything to spoil future episodes for you, but I will say that I look forward to your reactions to the next few episodes of this season. See you later next week! 👍

still needed to recover from Shiva's death and Ezekiel's mental breakdown ✋🏻😪 this episode is really fantastic, one of the most underrated ones probably. Negan and Gabe are a perfect combination together. I love that for the first time we're getting some true insight into Negan's character here and as you guys said yourself, for the first time we see that Negan is not per se a terrible leader or unreasonable person, he gets shit done, keeps his people in order and protects the workers.. of course the huge difference between Rick and Negan is that with Rick it's more of a democracy and with Negan more a dictatorship and the methods on Negan's side are questionable and unethical but in sense of ''I want the best for my people'' both systems work. And thank god you got that whole Oceanside/ Simon thing 🙏🏼most people still argue it was Negan who ordered to kill the Oceanside people and it always ends in a huge discussion recalling all of season 8 for some reason 😂
haha you guys might not’ve caught this but rick saying “choke holds illegal, asshole” is a reference to when daryl said the same thing to rick in season one when they first met!
The first Helicopter that Rick saw was one of the National Guard. It was the one that crashed in episode 3x3 when the Governor appeared for the first time. This is another helicopter and you will find out what's about it.
I would definitely say that Negan is more of a sociopath than a psychopath. In many ways he is crazy, and will do the most unjustified of murders to try to keep control with fear… but he does it with an underpinning of a philosophy. He has thought out reasonings for the things he does, and he has feelings. The Governor was more of a psychopath. Minimal, or really no legitimate feeling, and while he was always planning ahead, he was always pretending, and playing along for Woodbury like a politician. Negan is being HIMSELF as a leader, and the Governor was just manipulating to get what he wanted. Also I’m gonna keep saying it, Daryl just drives me nuts at this time. The thing about Negan is that while he is a bad guy, he runs a lot deeper than what we initially believe. He's not just a psycho like Simon
He’s one of the most interesting villains in the show
17:22 One of Negan's most famous lines!
He's so charismatic
the "chokehold's illegal" line was from early season 1 where Rick had Daryl in a chokehold for his reaction to him locking Merle to the rooftop
It was actually Shane that had Daryl in the chokehold. He tells him chokehold is illegal and Shane responds, file a complaint. Good callback though!
14:23 love the callback to s1, when shane had daryl in a chokehold, daryl said the same thing lmao

I don’t think “most fans” agree with that as Negan would never allow a potential rival to remain alive, let alone become his number 2.

Negan, Dwight, Laura, Dj, Regina, Norris, Arat, Simon, Gary, Gavin and Gregory having a meeting, is a the best scene in this episode
Was DJ really in this episode? I thought he appeared later.
@DJf214 I don't remember lol. I wish Laura had more screen time
@@AlejoConejo-vb8ln I think DJ first appeared in season 8 episode 8 when he was searching for Carl in Alexandria alongside Norris.

I think a big reason daryl one the mini-fight was because rick threw the backpack toward the truck, giving daryl time to grab him by the neck
