    You're doing wonderful! At my clinics, we go by the USDA/CDC guidelines, 4 hours room temp, 4 days in the refrigerator and 4 months in the freezer. We go up to 12 months in a deep freezer. But, smelling the milk once its properly thawed is a great indicator. If mom feels like it isnt good, use it in a bath for baby or develop your own diaper rash cream.

    Coconut oil is a great alternative to the Lansinoh lanolin cream, and it won’t stain your clothes.

      Lolol! A tip we were given at the hospital is if he’s falling asleep while nursing or needs to be woken up to eat to half undress him, then fully undress him, if Forrest is still out cold. 😂💕 It works really well!

    First time mommy here of an 18month baby girl 🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽‍♀️ Since you have only one set of pumping parts you can try storing everything in the fridge until you pump next because the previous milk drops on them won’t spoil! Saves you so much time, wish I would’ve known from the beginning 😂

    You can put your pumping parts in the fridge and use it throughout the day that way you don’t have to wash them constantly! Once a day is good as long as you keep it in the fridge so bacteria doesn’t grow 💕💕💕

    If you’re pumping a lot and have extra milk, another option is donate it! I know it sounds a little weird but there are a lot of women who can’t breastfeed or who need breast milk. Just an idea 😊

    After you freeze the milk, how is it used? Since I see that they fill the bags with milk, how is it to be used, then take them out, take the ounces you need and put what is left in the fridge and then continue using the rest? And what do you do when you go out, how do you transport the milk?

    Sorry for the unsolicited advice to follow ...
    BUT!
    I’m a first time mommy and had my son 5 weeks early. I was in the same boat as you as far as the hospital having me pump after every feed and continued this when I got home. My son took 45min+ to nurse and then I would pump around the clock. I ended up with a MASSIVE oversupply and had to seek out help to reduce (full draining and block feeding). I also ended up finding out that my son had a lip and posterior tongue tie (the lactation consultants @ the hospital never found this, they really aren’t trained for this, nor are many peds!)
    I’m writing this to you because I have my own regrets. I wish I would have spent less time pumping and more time snuggling my little man because time moves SO fast. I just didn’t know any better and did was I was told by the hospital!
    Once your milk is in you are golden!
    I suggest you seek out a private IBCLC vs the free ones at the hospital (insurance usually covers!)
    You’re doing a great job, mama! 🥰

    • @yojs17_
      @yojs17_ 5 років тому

      MissGlamourCheck This is true! If you aren’t separated from your baby, no need to pump. You are telling your body to make more milk than you need. I started pumping 1-2 a day at 6 weeks in preparation to go back to work at 8 weeks and the majority of the milk I pumped during my leave I threw away after a year because I never needed to use it! The milk I pumped at work he drunk the next day. I only when I was away from, my baby and i stopped pumping at a year and we continued to nurse twice a day until 14 to 15 months. Pumping is so much work and breastfeeding is so much enjoyable.

  • @hatchmando4918
    @hatchmando4918 5 років тому

    I understand getting extra milk in case you are unavailable but why do you pump at all? Why cant he just eat? (Aside from getting your milk to start up and maybe once in a while to check how much milk is actually coming out to know how much he is eating). Asking because I dont know.

  • @4wheel101

    This may be a dumb question but since your milk doesn’t come in for a few days do they just give the baby formula until it comes in?

    • @SimplyAlexandra
      @SimplyAlexandra  2 роки тому

      For most people it doesn't come in for a few days. We used a little formula the hospital gave us to make sure our baby wasn't hungry.

    • @FutureBilinguals
      @FutureBilinguals 2 роки тому

      You should get something called colostrum which comes in immediately once you start breastfeeding. It's basically the first few drops of "pure milk" or as I like to call it..."pure gold" that comes out. My baby girl only had a few drops and its really all she needed. then your milk quickly comes in 🙂

      Omg when she said that I felt so much better about my personal experience. I just had my baby a few days ago and I’m trying to do my best doing this breastfeeding thing and the people taking care of me post partum and those coming to see me and the baby tell me both positive and negative things of what I’m doing or that I should supplement with formula cause I’m making so little right now and etc .. and it really gets to you as a first time parent. I already spoke up with my family but it’s so important to just do what is right for you !

    I did not pump until a couple of weeks before I went to work ( 4 months) and I was only pumping twice a day and I had milk I didn’t used after breastfeeding for 18 months( I used it for the bath) Don’t over do it! take more time to enjoy your baby and cut back on pumping... 😊

  • @anaerbx96
    @anaerbx96 5 років тому

    So since your milk didn’t come in until 3 days later (which is what happened to me) how did baby do? Was he acting hungry or like what did the hospital say about not producing milk yet? That was my problem she wouldn’t latch and no milk was coming out so I felt pressured to give her formula 😕 I felt like she wasn’t getting any nutrients

  • @laurenatoler
    @laurenatoler 5 років тому +2

    When you are pumping and storing do you put each pump session in its own bag? Or do you pump everything for one day and put it in a bag and then freeze it?

    • @jeseniaportillo1126
      @jeseniaportillo1126 5 років тому

      Lauren Toler yes new mom here and I’ve been storing everything separately and have no idea if I can store everything for the day in one bag

    • @GennaKae
      @GennaKae 5 років тому

      Lauren Toler You can add milk from different sessions into the same bag for freezing, as long as it’s the same temperature when combining (can’t add warm milk to cold milk). I would always store all my bottles that I pumped throughout the day in the fridge and then freeze it based on what amount I wanted in a bag.

  • @violetaherrerax

    What do you eat for getting milk? My mom doesn’t really get any milk ?

    • @shinystarsimmy
      @shinystarsimmy 5 років тому

      I was told when I was breastfeeding it was so important to drink a lot of water and a regular healthy diet is all you need.
      When I fed my son's I would have a snack and a pint of water while they were feeding because it made me so thirsty and hungry.
      Hope your mum's milk comes through. Remind her that if her milk doesn't come through as much as she wants as long as baby is fed that is all that matters so of she finds she needs to combine bottle and breast feeding she's doing her absolute best to make sure baby gets what s/he needs.xx

    where i worked we held lactation classes and its less time in a normal freezer because it's used more than a deep freezer (getting opened and closed throughout the day) so temperature is always changing. where a deep freezer is pretty content and used less throughout the day :) I think is just all preference and what you feel is safe for your baby, i always tell clients momma knows best :)

    Supplements never worked for me. Be careful on how to correctly use them. Fenugreek when used incorrectly can decrease supply.
    That’s so funny bc my hospital said to never pump before 2 weeks postpartum so you can establish supply naturally. But I didn’t listen lol!

    Girllll first off go you !! Second off save tonnnssss of time by putting your pump parts in the fridge that way you can just use it directly from there and then wash it every 3-5 hrs !! Look it up I’m mad I only figured this out after my son lol

  • @lanenadrz

    Idk how you’re measuring what you put into your milk bag but I would suggest use the same bottle for measuring bc if you use the bag to measure you will always be off and also it might be easier/better if you store the milk in 2 oz increments so you don’t waste any milk. And I don’t know if someone already said this but when I was breastfeeding I would use those pink hospital baskets and put it in the fridge and keep my pump parts in there I would wash them at the end of the day or in the morning to make my life easier bc trust me any min you can save is precious lol

At first I was worried I couldn't breastfeed because my nipple is short and flat and my baby can't do it right, so I have been exclusively pumping. I produce so much milk its collecting on my freezer. I want to collect 1 yr worth so I can stop pumping before he is 1. Pumping it's a lot of work I pump every 3 or 4 hours even at 5 am because I dont want to deal with engorgement. Never had mastitis. I also have only one set of pump parts for my Spectra S2, but I dont wash it every time. That's crazy you sterilize it each time you pump thsts so much work, I just do a quick rinse on hot water sometimes or just not wash it I'm too exhausted to do that like at 4 am. I wash it only once throughly. I need to buy a deep freezer to store all my milk I make 40-46 ounces a day.

    They told me not to pump because I had too much but now I’m almost 2 months and I feel like now I don’t have enough milk. I’m so sad because of it. But now I feel like it might be too late to try to build my supply again

    Hey girl!! So you just microwave the frozen packs when you want to use them? Is that how it works? ~TIARRA

      FRIDAYS PROVERB not an expert by any means but I have always been told to NEVER microwave breast milk. (Heating is inconsistent) Get a bowl of hot water to set the bag in and let it thaw out.

    This video was SO informative and spot on with all of the information for pumping/ breast feeding. I am a second time mom yet still managed to get mastitis this time around 😩😭😭 worst pain ever! Honestly wish I would’ve watched this video prior to breast feeding this time around. Thanks so much for your valuable content. 💕🙌🏼

    So I’m confused! (First time mom here) if milk doesn’t come in for the first 3 days or so what is the baby eating? Formula?

    Yes Alexandra, that’s exactly right what you have been told and what you’re doing as far as pumping and your breast feeding time schedule. That will ensure that you have plenty milk supply to sustain his growth spurt’s. Also the colostrum will help build his immune system. You’re doing an outstanding job I’m loving watching the series. All of the organization and your schedule is wonderful.

    I’m absolutely obsessing over all your videos right now! As a FTM due in Jan I just find them all so helpful! So thank you! I’d love to see a video where you show what you actually used in your hospital bag and what you think are must haves for those first few weeks postpartum while healing. (If you haven’t already made it). Also you look amazing!🔥 I didn’t see any postpartum bump at all! Did you wear anything or do anything to get it to go down?

    So for those first few days when he was only getting a drop.. did they say that was ok? My milk didn’t come in till day 4 and my babies blood sugar was so low so they made me give him formula. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

      jaclyn roberts Yes thats ok the lactation nurse told me. She said babies tummies are naturally full when they are born. That they are only “sucking” “eating” in the beginning is to produce your milk supply like she is saying.

    I wonder if you’re over producing if you could donate your excess milk to the hospital or a midwife organization. I know you can in Canada - a friend of mine totally benefited from it because her baby was sooooooooo premature and her milk wasn’t coming in.

    This is probably a really stupid question but I’ve been trying to find the answer everywhere!😂 (I’m planning on exclusively pumping btw!) If your milk doesn’t come in for the first few days what does the baby eat? Do they feed him formula in the hospital? Or can a baby wait to eat for a few days? Any comments would be helpful!

    • @AdrianaPina567
      @AdrianaPina567 5 років тому +1

      mikailah as far as I learned their tummies are so tiny. First it’s marble size then grows each day. So a tiny bit of the colostrum you have should be enough. When your milk comes in the baby will be able to drink more.

    Most insurance companies will provide several lactation consultations for free. Mine provides up to 6 free consultations. You should call your insurance provider and see if they do the same. Also, thank you for making this video. I just had my baby two weeks ago and I wish they had told me to start pumping right away! He eats really well on the breast and is gaining good weight but I struggle to pump even an ounce during my pumping sessions and I didn’t start pumping until like day 5. I think that is contributing to my struggle but I’m going to try to pump after every feed or every other and see if that helps.
