And after they absract, the developer of game says how much days/month/years she stayed. And the abstarcted character will found out they have been TESTED and will be scared from VR's or headsets. The programs main purpose was to feed data for an artificial intelligence using real human interactions in a world they could interact with. Caine may have just chosen to turn it into a circus because he thought thats what humans wanted. Second theory: The circus was developed as a form of reversion therapy. Rather than targeting their own employees, mental health patients and prisoners were committed to it as an end all treatment option. Maybe pomni was committed one night, and after a history of treatment resistant anxiety, was forced into it as a last resort option. Psychologically, the idea was, forcing them to be in a situation where it seemed impossible to escape made them rely on each other and forced them to confront who they are as people. Given the severity of some issues, i imagine the program directors fully expected some people to be there forever. Lastly, the backrooms could serve as the exit. What if the exit doors only open shortly after someone abstracts? Going through the doors brings you into an area that represents your fragmented memories. For pomni, it was working as an accountant. Her biggest fear was probably continuing that mundane life, continually walking through figurative doors hoping for new opportunities in life that always disappointed her. But users can exit if they allow themselves time to explore the rooms, piece together the fragments, then enter the void. Thats when the "treatment" is completed.
