- Hello Guys Happy 2024!
So I tried to get out over Christmas and film some hiking videos but it seemed the British Whether was against me! Here is the latest adventure and the biggest 'failed' hike yet ... I'm not sure I will ever return to Elan valley ha ha.
(also, the problem with the jet boil was my fault 🤦♀️ )

Happy 2024🎉 thank you everyone who supported my little UA-cam journey last year! I wasn’t going to post this as it turned into two disaster days😅 but I guess this is the reality of hiking 🥾🤷🏻♀️ thank you to everyone who answered the poll and left me a nice comment encouraging me to post hikes that don’t go to plan. You gave me the confidence to post the most chaotic video to date - on wards and upwards in 2024 😂♥️🥾
Happy New Year! No worries on the real life adventure, we have all had them. With me it usually involves getting rained out, so it turns into a nice day for a drive. I had the same trouble with a propane single burner stove that I didn't quite have screwed on all the way. Flames were coming out the side so I threw it in the grass and watched it from a distance, from behind a tree until it burnt out.😅 That old dam is amazing and has great character! Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next one😊
@@jonrose5114 yes I think that was it - it still works though so I didn’t damage it too much 😊😊 thank you! Me too 😊
Happy new year 🎉 to you and yours and thanks for taking us on your adventures 🙏🍻
Love this great 👍
@@henry9406 thank you Henry ☺️☺️
Looked a real winters day, nice to see the rainbow in the skies but no walk is ever a fail. I have done exactly what you have done in turning back from a walk when the conditions were not right and I felt it was the right this to do, so a sensible decision in my book. I like the fact that you also post when things go wrong, as I am sick of seeing 'perfect' videos all the time when everything 'always' go right - that is not real life. Good to see you went back and found the bothy as well and it it looked a real wild and desolate place and a place that is perfect to totally de-stress and chill out in. Loved your little polite knock on the door, I would have put a size 11 boot on it and shouted "is there room for a small one" but on reflection, your way was probably more appropriate. One thing about the outdoors is, you are always leaning about it and you can read as many books as you want but you lean by experiencing it making mistakes, that you will not then repeat. One thing for sure you are not the first to have a stove fire before and my mate had the same fire on his jet boil when he left it to take his tent down and came back to it all in flames. The problem with 'everyone else's videos' is they only show the success and never the failures, so we are back to honest, which I like, which is why your channel is so refreshing. Cheers Alan
The weather in north Wales was atrocious over the Christmas and new year period so well done for finding a window of opportunity in these dark winter months to get out and make another video for us to enjoy. Never mind that things didn't go exactly to plan, it's all part of the fun. I might have a little wander around that area myself... probably wait until spring though!
It has been! I hope it improves soon so I can get out and about 😊 well just don’t fall into the bog like me 😅 thank you! 😊
Looks really nice.
That is a very nice bothy.
Cool video.
I just use a flask.😄👍
Look forward to your next one.👋
😭😭 I will be! I don’t think I can be trusted with fire 😅
I made it to that bothy and the other little one you did.
Did a little vid. It was so wet.
I took my flask to this bothy but forgot it and left it in the car. 🤦🏻😂
Look forward to your next one. 😉👍
@@JamieHarding5 thank you 😀 hope you had a nice time !
I love this video!! It made me chuckle 😂! You looked and sounded disappointed and angry on what happed! We all have those days so dont worry about it! Im glad you posted this 🙌 as it just shows the reality of hiking and what can go wrong.
Happy new year 🎉
Glad you enjoyed! I was 😅 hopefully the next one goes a bit better 💪🏻💪🏻☺️
If you’re outside and enjoying it you’re no imposter! You live, you learn. As for having to turn back, it’s always better to be safe 👍🏻
Thank you! Just hoping for some better 🌨️🌨️🌨️😊😊
Same thing happened to my stove in Kielder, I hadn’t screwed it tightly enough to the gas canister. When I ignited it, the plastic went on fire and started to drip on to the canister. Everyone with me fled the scene quickly as they thought it was going to explode. Managed to get the melted stove off but the canister survived 😁
I would say that the canister hasn't sealed properly around the threads and gas has escaped and gone on fire. At least you weren't harmed and you got it put out. Keep up the great work, and stay safe.
What a beautiful hike, these shots are phenomenal as well as intro! Brilliant 👏
Thank you 😊😊 beautiful rainbows 🌈 a shame it took a turn 😅
My backyard bro. It is fantastic around there.
Another nice video 👍😎respect from wales 🏴
Great video . Watching you explain how the burner caught fire had me in stitches. 😂
Thank you John 😅 I think I will be sticking to the old flask 😅
It’s great to see you out conquering the winter (or not 😂) As a viewer it’s just nice to come along! Superb video it’s been a pleasure to join you on your UA-cam journey. I’m sure you’ll go from strength to strength!
Thank you Dan! Hopefully 💪🏻 it’s given me an appreciation for all the work that goes into making a video that’s for sure 😅😅
Hi. Don,t worry bout the disasters, we all have them. Sounds like yr stove had a leak somehow. Maybe like you said use a safer stove! And the reason other vids seem to go to plan is that the not so gd bits are edited. You,re doing a great job, so just enjoy what yr doing and don,t worry if things go badly....least yr having a go! :)
Thank you Tony … I feel like it’s just me these things happen to sometimes! Yes ha ha 😊😊
Enjoy your videos as i find them relaxing to watch. Do you speak Welsh, as your pronunciation of places from the OS maps are great. (Or at least sound great to someone who chokes after attempting 3 consecutive consanants)
Nice content Eth. Solo, only way to go,one can engage better with the environment and indeed others.
Elan Valley,world class.
After years of working my plan is not to make a plan. As soon as I start walking/cycling and whatever happens next is always a success, that's if course if you don't make a plan other than to start.
Ha ha I like to make a plan - or who knows where I would end up 😊 yes I do find when you go on your own it’s easier to enjoy mature ☺️🌸
Just come across your video. I like your honesty. It goes wrong for all of us at times, you live and learn. Keep going!
I appreciate that! Yes ha ha! Well hopefully there are some more successful adventures soon 😅
Beautiful chaos. It was great 😊
Thank you 😁
Forgot to add that every trip is always testing. Tent pegs break, yr mate falls in yr tent and yr soaked and he is dry. You forget yr wallet, torn tyre 6 miles away from a signal and losing a GoPro drone that cost a bomb in the lakes with 5 people waiting to see it takes off. It did and smashed into a mountain, the group then got stuck in a bog , over their knees in mud trying to find it so no it happens to us all! Lol. Keep going yr videos are really brilliant.
That is true it could be much worse! That scares me about drones they are so expensive and then break so easily!
Hello Ethical Beauty!, can I call you that?
Your video dropped onto my homepage tonight and had a view and enjoy it.
We all makes an error here or there and are only human after all.
I say this for now, dust yourself off and carry on and did enjoy the history of the area.
More, more please.
Thx
Thank you 😊 yes it has not deterred me, the next one will hopefully be much better 😊
Lifeventure are good flasks 👍 always take mine hiking/camping 😊
Yes they are! I think I’ll just be taking my regular one in future ☺️☺️
Another great video and thankfully no harm done to you with the jet boil disaster
Yes I know! Also lucky it’s winter so nothing caught fire …. 🥲 onwards and upwards 😊
lol…. We have all bailed walks, mountain bike routes and things in life. If yr gut says no always go with that. Don’t beat yrself up on your videos. I remember years ago giving the same advice to Nottingham Lass vlogger and she has a massive following!! Keep being you mate, yr qualities will shine and you will get the followers. Be yrself! Keep doing it. All the best.
Thank you! It doesn’t feel like it sometimes as everyone else has perfect videos … I’m just enjoying making them and getting out in nature at the moment and I want to share that - even then it gets difficult not to compare!
Was the gas canister screwed on fully? The only other thing I can think of is the seal failed. A small o-ring where the canister screws in, a small amount of gas can escape every time you fit or remove it and that can damage the seal.
Good to see you survived the new year and achieved your bothy finding goal, keeping the failures shows authenticity.
Looking back I think not! Was my mistake most probably 😅
@@ethicalbunny At least you dealt with the problem in a safe way, I wouldn't want you to explode.
It's always boggy somewhere there - you chose a good time of year for that. Re-the cannister would have been great to capture that on film. A bugger though because you wanted a brew. I do enjoy the bothies in the Cambrians - this one is pretty with a fantastic view. Question. How do you get over 2,000 views in 2 days for this bothy? I've been around a while and have 4 thousand subs and don't get that many in a year. Just curios - I must be doing something wrong - please do share a tip. Well, a good time out disaster and all. Mark
Yes and we have had so much rain! Ha ha I would like to stay in them one day but I wouldn’t feel safe doing so on my own. Your channel is really good mark I enjoy your videos! Tbh I have struggled as a new creator working out how UA-cam works let alone how to make a video 😅 I feel like filming and editing is just half the battle! One of the best things I have learnt so far is I downloaded something called ‘TubeBuddy’ and you can put it as an add on to a you tube channel and it shows you the tags that people are putting in their videos! I had a look at how others were using tags and started tagging my videos and that has helped a lot. I think it tells the algorithm what your video is about so it can show it to more people 😊 I hope that is helpful!
Also, it tells you if the video has done all the best practices so it gives a good idea of what is important on you tube. Would recommend downloading it but I did it on a different account as you have to give it access to your channel and I was worried about doing that on this one ☺️. I watch loads of you tube but it really helped me understand the platform more and what is important to the algorithm 🥾⛰️☺️
@@ethicalbunny Yeah, I was up that way the other WEEK (latest video if interested-would be good to hear from you) and it was gloriously stormy and wet. Love it. Hay, you'd be good in one - all the same out here. Re-your tips I hear you. Mind you I do all that and am good with tags and thumbnails but still very few views. Over 2,000 in 2 days for this bothy is awesome. Take care.
@@ethicalbunny Yes, I've seen tube buddy. I may consider that. All the best.
I had a similar experience at a bothy in Scotland. Some other people's stove caught fire between me and the door so i was trapped. They also managed to kick the thing out of the door before it blew up as I cowered against a wall 😂😂😂.
Yes, least it wasn’t inside! I would LOVE to stay in a bothy up there, do they get busy?
@@ethicalbunny some of them do now apparently. The ones close to roads and popular walking routes and at holiday times and weekends. But some of them are so remote they are unlikely to ever get busy. Some of them are such remarkably beautiful locations it almost beyond belief that they are freely available to use.
Keeping it real, problems and all, makes for good videos 😁
Maybe try an alcohol burner for hot drinks.
Ha ha or a flask - hopefully I can’t do too much damage with that …
Elan Valley lovely place if you get the weather right, my friend owns a lovely cafe in the town called the old Swan
It can be ha ha I love the dams but it can be bleak in winter! 😊😊
I enjoyed the vid your not the only one many things have gone wrong for me I fell in rivers nearly froze to death so yea things happen but you have to laugh it off 👍👍
Thank you Dave! I feel like the outdoors always has a way to humble you even when you think you know what you’re doing 😅😅
@@ethicalbunny definitely 👍
Hi to be honest I think you are doing grate it's good to see people putting failed attempts in there videos as people just starting out can see its not all good but don't let that get you down as you are fabulous regards lawrence
Thank you Lawrence 😊 hopefully there will be some more successful ones in the near future 😊😊
Visions of you booting your stove down the hill an chasing after it!😂. I'd pretty much guarantee most content creators have them days! They just don't show it so everything looks perfect. Wouldn't worry bout it! Lol
Ha ha thank you Andy … luckily I have the kick of a donkey so managed to get it into the stream 😅
Did you get a refund on the jet boil..
Nice!! Are comfortable Dubarry country boots for hiking?
Yes I live in them ha ha! I can’t walk far, but if it’s under 10km they are my preferred choice … they are also still waterproof 15 years on 😂
@@ethicalbunny Why you can't walk far?
@@I.equitazione I could but I don’t think you should as I would choose something that supports the ankle on longer distances or uneven ground 🤔
@@ethicalbunny In the occasion you use Dublin country boots or hiking boots or rubber boots when do hiking? :)
You should RTFM (Read the f***ing manual) of any new kit you take on an journey, and test it atleast once at home (outside in the garden).
An tip worth testing out?
Yes, although I have used it before … probably need to read it again 😅
Could the gas cartridge not have been screwed in tightly enough and then the gas that was escaping from the screw in part could have caught light. I am gussing that if you screwed the gas cartridge back on and ensured it was a secure fit then it could be safely ignighted. Just make sure you are outside when you light it and good luck :)
Thank you, I think that could have been it and then I had trouble lighting it 🥲 next time perhaps 🙃
Well you are hot enough so dont get burnt ok :)@@ethicalbunny
*_Hello... I really enjoyed your adventure doing solo hiking in the Cambrian mountains, what is Lluest Cwmbach Bothy???.... greetings from Indonesia....._* 👣⛰💚👌👍🤝🙏
A bothy is a mountain shelter that is free for anyone to use. They are all maintained by an association and provide shelter for hikers in remote areas 😊 thanks you the comment 😊
@@ethicalbunny I'm sure the management will be very good, and the adventurers will be safe too.....👌
祝您和您的家人永远开心事事顺心
😇🍻🤩😁🌼🤔🏞️
why is the thumbnail just two pictures of you posing
What should it be
Don’t think it’s just you disaster follows me about too
Be another day and time good high boots for winter I go hunting mountain type as going to be wet and extra height of say 10,11 inch boots pay off
Yes they do for sure! Especially when it’s boggy like that! 😊😊
Don't be hard on yourself... you did amazing walking so far in that weather!! And much better weather on your return
How's your week going? Hope you are feeling better after giving up on the walk 🫰
Yes it was dry although I enjoyed the rainbows ☺️🌈
@@numpty2thank you 😊😊 just planning my next adventure 🤔🤔
@ethicalbunny ah that's good... pick me up on the way through 🤣
@@numpty2 ha ha 😅😅☺️⛰️
What's your accent then?
It sounds quite Easy Coast Lincolnshire to me is all.
Nope - just from the shire 😅 (Shropshire)
@@ethicalbunny ohhh!
Fairy snuff.
Keep your chin up tho eh!
Seemed that your equipment may have let you down a little here.
May I ask…is your jacket Gortex by any chance?
It maybe that it needs treating with the gortex refresh liquid in a washing machine.
Just make sure you do all your gortex gear at the same time though otherwise, you’ll be wasting the fluid by not making the best use of it.
Also, if the weather’s ney good and you don’t have the right support/gear with, then, egress is always the best choice…so long as it doesn’t take you back via an equally dangerous route.
In which case, try bedding down/sheltering…maybe difficult if all you have is a day sack though.
My kinda scenery, got knoydart and Barrisdale bay on my list for 24, check it out👍
Like it how you don’t want to sugar coat real life problems
Thank you ❤
@@ethicalbunny no problem we all learn everyday, still getting the hang of this UA-cam stuff myself aswell.
@@happycampersNewcastle ha ha it is a lot to learn! ☺️☺️
@@ethicalbunny sure is, keep up the good work look forward to seeing more. 🙂
Good afternoon, first you are not an imposter, you are in fact an ambassador for the great outdoors by publiciing your efforts here. Dont therefore be upset about that. Second, in terms of your jetboil, I suspect the gas was too cold. Butane has a habit of flaring up when its cold. Either that, or it just doesnt work at all. This is why Propane is used for applications where it will be subjected to cold weather as its tollerence is much greater to such things. Of course unless you know that, you would have no idea why you had your indoor bonfire. Like I say, dont be dispondent, you are learning these things all the time, and lets face it, as the Americans would say "No-one died". Keep your chin up and keep making these videos. Take care, Peter.
Thank you Peter - yes you might be right although I think I also might have not had it all screwed together tight enough 😭 thank you, hard when things don’t go to plan but at least I found the Bothy in the end! I might go back for a summer wild camp if I’m not to traumatised😂 thank you for your kind words 😊😊😊
@@ethicalbunny Look at it this way, if your plans all went swimmingly you would end up mediocre content much the same as countless others here on UA-cam. Yours on the other hand is quite different, it's raw, real and true to real life. That's what gives you the edge and makes your content captivating to watch.
Again, this only serves to emphasise and highlight your ambassadorship (If that's a word lol) of the Great outdoors.
I am a motorcyclist, a tourer and s camper on the bike. Not to mention I mostly live on a narrowboat.
I take inspiration from your efforts so you are already achieving your objective.
Just keep enjoying the outdoors, keep learning and keep publicising your efforts along the way.
Take care, Peter.
@@MrPeterJMilner thank you Peter that means a lot to me! That sounds very exciting motorbiking and camping! Yes, I don’t want to cut all those bits out as I feel like a lot of content is now too commercialised; it also wouldn’t feel very honest!
Perhaps a higher power was telling you stay in bed and watch telly ?
Yes … after 2 goes I got the message 😂
