If you see this comment, please like it. Remind me to keep coming back to this song. So underrated and cannot be forgotten. This song gave me power once, during lockdown, my business failing I got in running to this song. Would chase the beat, beating personal bests to the peaks and troughs... The power of music
They were sacrificed to the gods of capitalism. They knew that the o rings had almost failed before. They also received many warnings from inside Nasa that they should not have launched that day because of the weather. MURICA
Listening to this song, particularly from 15mins onwards, makes me feel choked up. They had no idea they were about to board a flight to their deaths. An unbelievable tragedy. This incredible song encapsulates the anticipation, excitement, trepidation, and then the failure of the shuttle, desperation, realisation, explosion, the fall, and the crash. How one song can do that, I don't know, but they did it.
William Burroughs, the man quoted in this song, describes his experiences with dreams (specifically lucid dreams), the importance of dreaming, and a borrowed philosophy about a kind of metaphysical dreaming. He gains this metaphysical understanding of dreaming from J.W. Dunne who theorizes the ability to ascend to higher levels of consciousness through dreams, gaining abilities such as predicting the future. Using this information Burroughs suggests a beautiful, albeit fantastical, solution to the difficulty of extraterrestrial exploration; using our dreams we can go there ourselves.
Good god, the part from when they start countdown to the very end makes me want to cry my eyes out for the ppl in the challenger and their families and friends.
15:46 onwards reminds me so much of Pink Floyd's Echoes. Not saying they are similar, mas it does remind me of it, and that, to me, is a huge compliment.
I prefer this over the original, cause I can comment here. 15:51 this part reminds me of "Questionnaire - Horrortale OST", check if they don't sound similar, it's probably because of the same instrument.
+Matthew Timmins I'm with you there. I had to really get my Google on, but I found it. It's a lecture by William S Burroughs on public discourse. August 11, 1980. It's an hour and a half long, but here's the link :) archive.org/details/naropa_william_s_burroughs_lecture_on Haven't listened to it yet, but that's definitely the source. Voice fits, and I found a few quotes excerpt from that lecture. Seems like a really good listen.
Somebody pls tell me about lyrics at the end, form what is this? Is this from last seconds failed flight "Challanger" , with Christy McAuliffe on a deck?? It's soooo deep, and it always breaking me down. ;x

Rest In Peace the crew of my sister ship Challenger. May their sacrifice not be in vain.

I found this album randomly, and as I listened, realized the whole post rock genre basically is based on Pink Floyd's Echoes.
many stories, many deaths, but many dreams...
