  • We make a wood box and load it. We continue to outfit the cabin, hanging a lantern, hooks, a cabinet, pipe box etc. At long last we prepare our first meal using vegetables from the garden and venison harvested last fall.

The part where you guys toasted to the cabin and made small talk while eating was my favorite part. It was so simple but very moving. It was the exact scenario that took place thousands of times on the frontier. The feeling of we built this with our bare hands and know we have a life here. And then you talked about the need to get some meat. It was the most heartfelt historically accurate conversation Ive ever heard. Congratulations!!

Those are kind words, Caleb. I do enjoy staying in a first person role… somehow talking about the Superbowl or current politics wrecks the ambience.

Congratulations Peter on completing the cabin and having your first meal with your wife. I have watched from the beginning when you started the construction. I'm a history buff and enjoyed every week you shared your journey of this exciting educational lesson of how a real log cabin was built in the early 1700's with the the tools and skills it took to build a master piece with authenticity. Peter, you are a true craftsman, which is rare these days. Excited to see what you do next, God willing, on your educational journey of sharing what simple life was like back then. God bless you and your family.

May GOD continue to richly and abundantly bless your union and your lives. I just noticed this YT feed to my channel. I retired from city to rural life about 3 yrs ago. I'm close to the James River in the Blue Ridge of Appalachia. BYW - the best meat I have ever tasted was a moose steak on the outside grill, 49 years go in Warren, Manitoba...20ish miles north-west of Winnipeg. I was a 23 yr old newlywed to a Canadian man.

    Outstanding!
My gr-gr-gr grandfather made clay pipes in volume as well as Whiskey.
After coming here from Ireland, his first land purchase was made with clay pipes, taxed Whiskey, four fitted hogs and one hundred dollars.
I can imagine him telling the story to his grandchildren with them asking "Where did you get a hundred dollars?" with him replying in his Irish brogue "Untaxed Whiskey."
That is a mighty fine looking meal.

When she found her chalks hanging on her new hook, she was overjoyed! She ran around the garden cheering and then announced that I was the ‘Bestest daddy in all the galaxies’. You two remind me so much of my uncle Bill and aunt Mary. Bill literally found a spot in the woods of middle Michigan, squared on it and build a one room cabin out of scrap wood he scrounge for town. They had a great garden a pump well he dug and an outhouse. Very seldom did he go into town, just to buy Flour, sugar, salt, rolling papers and tobacco. He used to say " if I can't hunt for it, fish for it or grow it, I don't need it.

Just found your channel,, first fire and now first dinner. Gotta comment on how beautiful the whole cabin is,, WoW. And the soft orange glow of candles light reflected off the yellow logs, and that fire place,, the white inner brick just bright orange glow reflection !
Bet it’s even more special at night…
    Awesomeness right there

All the flammable materials are placed next to the fireplace lol. The stack of firewood, the tobacco, the gun which contains gunpowder(I know it's doesn't have black powder in it at the moment), the broom.

Indeed but, it is a small cabin. Bottom line, the entire thing is flammable just as it would have been for our ancestors.
