    Such basic things that are easily looked over -- down from reminding you to go to the loo before a photo walk, to just simply smiling. Very wise words, thank you for all these reminders, Robin!

    Tip 7, so important. And tip 8, of course. Thanks. Tip 1, great start to a fun and very educational video Robin. Laughter because it's so true. Thanks for being a marvelous person Robin, yourself.

    Dear mr Wong, thank you for all the videos you have posted so far. It really changed my life in a postive way. In the past I often had negative feelings about everything, but now I really enjoy my life again and photography. Currently I am a Nikon and a Olympus PEN F shooter. Your positive attitude helps me a lot. So thank you so much for this. Kind regards Peter Wauters. (Belgium)

    There was a cat in the thumbnail. Instant like!!! Merry Christmas, Robin! Tip number 1 is so crucial. It’s funny but also so true!!! Still trying to learn to be minimalist. Haha.
    Robin: “Wear neutral colours”
    Me: *eyeballing the bright red shoes* 🧐😂

      Of course there must be a cat! Cat is life!

      @@robinwong Tip 11.5 Have hydrogen peroxide and a Band-Aid handy, if the cat is having a bad day. ;) Just kidding!
      P.S. My cat friend for 15 and half years, was the most loving cat, and never once bite or scratched me -- amazing. Cats are so human like -- free spirit humans. Dogs are great friends and pets as well, but observing and interacting with cats is mostly unrated by so many people. Cats adopt you -- you are not an owner of a cat, it is more like a friendship. You learn a lot from a cat. Yes, I have owned some dogs -- they are great too. I am now more into cats -- freedom.

    Great tips and I can relate to almost all of them. I prefer to go alone, because when I am in the flow, I unconditionally follow what my attention gets attracted to. This is unplannable and if I was in company, I would have to negotiate where to go next, how long to stay on a spot, etc. My mental state is not to expect anything and just observe. I find pre-focussing on some idea to narrow my mind. There is always something unexpected to find out there. Even on days when I think I would find nothing I bring home three images or so that I am proud of. This feels like a hunting trophy and keeps me going.

    Such great advice. The great thing about being a photographer is you're never bored. I'm always thinking about composition, lighting, shadows, reflections, angles, when I'm walking around and of course I usually have my MFT camera with me because it's so so small and light. Photography is truly about being in the moment and letting the photograph come to you.
    So many photographers obsess about cameras, lenses, bokeh, sensors, resolution charts, they confuse image quality with the quality of the image. A better sensor will not make you a better photographer.

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  5 років тому +1

      indeed, a better sensor will not make you a better photographer! Could not have said that better myself.

    Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years to come ! One of your tips is a Check List.: Be sure to select higher ISO of day 320-400 for starters, shutter speed in the 1/250 or 1/320 range, or at least set the F stop to f4 before going out to shoot. Fast lens in darker settings or later day shoots helps. When walking against light on streets add +1/3 of light or more, and keep the camera turned on and finger on the trigger. When you find a good backdrop, pre-focus on a point and set the focus point where you believe the subject will walk into it. Finger focus selecting ( not focus point shoot ) to the area you anticipate subjects will be in at time of shot to be taken, your touch monitor is a wonderful thing. Look where you are going for falling potential, or approaching cars when crossing streets --- must survive to shoot another day. As for dress, you can go as a pro, or blend as local, or simply play tourist for the day, if in a tourist town -- no problem. They seem to be a little suspect of longer telephotos, with special looking hoods, like tulip or vented. But I mostly use lens hoods and do bump into things downtown. Lastly, be sure to listen to Robin :) Even if you disagree on any singular point, he has a great overall knowledge of digital photography to share. I may also add, he takes great photos!

    So refreshing not to be told " always shoot in RAW mode " .
    One tip - bring along an energy bar or similar , because if you forget to eat during your photowalk , you might find yourself " drained " of energy when you least expect it , and the water you bought with you ,won't be enough to get you to the nearest snack bar .
    Tip 2 - check the weather forecast in the area that you intend to visit , no-one wants to be caught in a hailstorm , just wearing a T shirt and jeans with no poncho on your person / on the other side , if you are going to photograph in a sunny location , put on sunscreen BEFORE you set out

    # 13. It has been a positive, learning experience by being in a camera group of friendly photography folks - ex. due to other members posting, known to them, locals for our outing shoot days, although I've lived in this area for 40 yrs, I've been taken to many undiscovered interesting places I had not yet seen ! Though there are @ 25 members in the group, only 5 ~ 7 show up regularly - some of these being very knowledgeable & helpful. With a friend / member's help, I made this years Christmas greeting cards. Enjoy your videos.
