Had to post this here. In class i was explaining to our students what you were saying about his students appearing with him in his books and how thats the sign of one day you leave or get kicked out. Two of the students then said “So this is like “Mean Girls” with the burn book??” I hadnt seen that film in years but realized thats perfect. Copped an attitude when I did and didn’t even turn off the auto payment. Had to go to my bank to sort that out.
Sorry to hear about your experience! I left mainly because of disagreements with how the association was being run, the fee structure, and the unfairness of the regulations. If anyone thinks that my leaving warrants me being beat up, they should’ve just come to NYC and done it. My address is available for anyone who looks it up. “Excuse me, Mr. Van Damme” story-- LOL Oh, man. What a bummer. I don’t know what I’d have done. I’m a huge Van Damme fan. Actually, I named two of my four children after him: Jean-Claude and Chance (from Hard Target). Currently working on a YT video titled: Why I Love Van Damme. BTW, hopefully one day I will also say: “Excuse me, Mr. Van Damme” 😂
To be fair, William had posted an open challenge in Combat Magazine saying that he would take on anyone any time any place at his seminars. So he kind of asked for it.
Most people don't know about the background of this fight, but that doesn't stop them from talking. There are bad decisions on both sides and no one is blameless.
Wait, the character for Genius is Pie? That is even deeper....seems a good episode to ask my question as the subject of his books came up. (Ironically the Roots book had a paper glossy cover sheet that can be removed when the curse catches his demo partner, if it hasn't.) In the Roots and branches of Wing Tsun,(First edition, page 204) a photo of the 1991 Chi Sau Champs of San Francisco is shown. I would love to know exactly who is who. Si-Fu Elmond is on his left I think, and Sifu Robert Jaquet's face on his right, and my first instructor Si-Hing Denis Bone is on the far right of the image in all black with the red ribbon and beard. Any stories you know about that event would be interesting too. Thanks,....
Thanks for commenting - the characters for Genius are 天才, not “pie”(?). I don’t know much about the 1991 tournament, my knowledge of WT history is focused on Hong Kong and Europe. Development in the US has been kind of a joke since day one, and so it’s always been the least interesting aspect for me to study.
@@TheKungFuGenius Thanks, I hope my guesses are right about who is who in the photo. The second character, as it appears in the video, is very much like a Pie symbol,....read ya later...🧐
This Ramos is so slow and wooden, by the time his attack arrives, even the spectators have all gone home from boredom. I think Bruce Lee have could kill Raymond Chow with one finger. Even Raymond Chow would beat this Ramos.😂😂😂 What should Bruce be able to learn from that, probably tell me a lie!
Thank you for stating (in regards to the Wong Jack Man fight) that "It's another guy who doesn't want to be there." Yeah, Wong Jack Man's entourage were a bunch of young punks(!), most of whom were barely out of their teens, who most likely talked him into it, since the Chinatown martial arts community actually wanted to ignore Bruce's unfortunate remarks at the Sung Sing Theater. (Well one of the three with Wong Jack Man was a kid nicknamed "Ya Ya" Wu. That nickname is descriptive.) And at the time, Wong Jack Man's understanding of English in 1964...wasn't the best. Relating that is despite the various narratives (by the Lee Estate) that it was an "official delegation sent by The San Francisco Kung Fu Community to stop Bruce Lee from teaching whites!" (The exclamation point is deliberate.) That's why I dig your show. You don't engage in the bull...oney. ;-)
Great explanation about people who are unhappy with their level of ability and cafeteria skill shopping through schools. Have seen a few guys like this. Full of name dropping and mediocre knowledge and very little skill. Typically they know it all and it must be the school they are at. Not the lack of effort, humility and pressure testing. If you plateau on a positive point (skills exceeding your brothers and sister)and can find no help to break through, then it made be time to venture out.
You mean that actor who poses as a Wing Chun Sifu and is constantly getting “attacked“ by his students at his own school for some strange reason in videos? Never heard of him.
Great episode guys, love the shirts, get a good laugh out of you guys,Bruce lee was often challenged on the set of enter the Dragon,he'd either correct their form,or kicked the shit out of them,Bruce was just to fast,no one could touch him.
I know the likely person he was talking to, 14 or so years ago in Bangkok, a Swedish friend of mine, came into a bar we were all in, looking white as a ghost. Long story short, he's bodyguards roughed up the Swedish guy, who had been videoing JCVD with a group of, wot shall we say, 8 or so GIRLS, they took the I phone off the guy & deleted the video.
I’m dead serious, we recorded this months ago and each video has multiple topics. Besides the topic in the thumbnail I don’t remember what else I talked about in this episode. You’re gonna have to remind me what you are referring to.
@@TheKungFuGenius you spotted a very intoxicated JCVD chatting to a person in Hong Kong, you wouldn't say what gender the person was. I know he likes a certain type of gender when visiting Thailand 😉
Interesting suggestion by Alex Stone, Sylvester Stallone actually trained Taekwondo under Korean Taekwondo superkicker Kwong Yung Moon who you may recognized from several Shaw Brother's and Billy Chong films back in the 70's 80's.
That is Super Sad.. that Leung Ting did that to you.. obviously you LIVE for your Wing Chun.. and to have your Sifu disown you in that way is truly awful.. then you mention how he did this to many other high ranking students of his over the years.. how shameful. At least NO one can take away your hard effort and years of training..for that speaks for itself.
@@TheKungFuGenius True and Im sure you went through a whole host of emotions about it, but chose the higher road. A Sifu only leaves behind his legacy.. all those senior students/ disciples whom will teach the new generation when he is gone.. and to estrange all those advanced students with angry words and even worse saying that they were not qualified or that they never learned .. so crappy. My Sifu Eddie Chong had to change lineages after a couple of decades.. His Sifu would not make him a "Sifu".. they said it was his attitude.. im thinking because he wasnt the right kind of Chinese..or something else political like that. I guess this is what we have to deal with as outsiders wanting to learn and teach Kung Fu...
@@TheKungFuGenius not looking for any recognition, but I would appreciate any tips you may have on direction or training methods based on the videos I put up, if you had the time of course. I focus on lat sau and chi sau as I also practice the Leung Ting "curriculum ", as was taught me by my sifu.
I thought you were gonna talk about Leung Ting's God awful Comics he "made" in the 80's and early 90's to compete with Tony Wong's Jademan titles. Holy shit they were garbage
Great Episode, the JCVD. Story was mess up. Van Damme had a alcohol and Drug problem. He Also has a bipolar disorder. Hopefully you meet him again and he makes up for it. All the best to you my friend.
On top of what you said about someone showing up on the set of Enter the Dragon and beating up Bruce Lee, can you picture how the Producers and Director would freak out? Warner Brothers execs had invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into producing this movie. If someone showed up and beat up the star of their movie, it would threaten the completion of their project and their investment. They probably had insurance policies on Bruce; certainly now a days movie producers have their lead actors insured. If something happens to one of them and the movie can't be completed, or has to start re-filming from the beginning with a different actor it costs millions of dollars! The time the stunt man challenged Bruce and Bruce popped him and was like, "OK. Shows over. Let's get back to work", was no big deal because Bruce was fine and filming continued, but if Bruce had lost and been injured, wow! That would have been a big deal because it threatens the movie completion. Everybody would have known about it.
I'm not so sure Bruce won that fight with Wong Jack Man but we will never really know. The fact is Afterwards he never taught Wing Chun again. So the Chinese who ran things on the west coast SF USA got what they wanted Bruce's schools shut down. To this point I say he lost the fight. His death and celebrity cement his legendary status so people refuse to see Bruce Lee in a negative light especially if it was fighting for his very right to teach westerners Wing Chun. Also his fighting style changed to a more practical street fighting combination of different marital arts techniques that he learned from other disciplines subsequent to the bout. He saw an opportunity to improve upon Chinese and other martial arts and he had to teach something new anyway so Jeet Kune Do or the precusor to MMA was born. In My mind Jeet Kune Do is the only truly American Made Martial Art.
This is not true, I had this conversation with John Little two weeks ago. I lot of people believe he stopped teaching Wing Chun but it’s simple not true. I don’t think any level-headed person believes Bruce lost that fight - the counter narratives are a a mess and mostly discrepant stories from WJM’s ilk. JKD is no more American than Ed Parker’s kenpo, and I’m not sure why that matters anyway.
@@TheKungFuGenius right he didn't stop teaching private lessons with backyard buddies. but he closed his eponymous public schools.. Jun Fan. which is a glaring fact. Perhaps he realized how disrespectful he was being to the SF Cantonese cultural traditions. IDK. The fact that he focused on cardio training subsequent to the fight tells me he gassed out during the fight, suggesting the longer 25 min is accurate, either beating him or chasing him. I maintain that JKD is the only American mixed martial art. "The formless form" Bruce did not even want to give it a name. You should look into it more. Of course lots of the foundational principles come directly from WC but also fencing boxing judo jui juitsu etc... all have influence on JKD. Its like Pizza in America with all manner of toppings it doesn't really resemble the ancestor original form from Italy any longer. American Pizza is its own style...and multiple styles at that. Those versions of pizza are American pizza. Bruce Lees JKD is indeed an American mixed Martial art by definition because he invented it in California and was born in SF. His teaching method for students to learn what is useful and practical for an individuals body and to discard the techniques that don't work in a practical real fight is revolutionary in the Martial Arts Community. I think during the fight with Man he realized how impractical most Kung Fu moves are in a real fight. hence the inspiration for cardio and JKD, Americas first Martial Art.
I’m sorry, this is a bit of a fact and word salad that loses the thread continuously. There are just too many assumptions built into your version of the facts. And I’m still not sure why it’s so important that JKD is American, so was the Ford Pinto.
@@TheKungFuGenius i never made any factual assertions. everything I said was conjecture and opinion. ford pinto is a non sequitur logical fallacy. It's not important that you believe JKD is American. It's like saying Bruce Lee is not American but um OK. you can believe that. LOL
@@TheKungFuGenius instead of arguing against my opinions lets talk about the Jun Fan school closure timeline in relation to the WJ Man fight and why that is relevant. I want to hear what your opinion is on this timing and why Bruce Closed his public schools. For all I know he was done dealing with the pressure from SF Kung Fu Masters to stop teaching the gwai lo. IDK again speculating.
I'd heard that Leung Ting was a bit of a twat tbh He has his place in HK action cinema and real martial arts history of course. I'd heard that the Venoms clashed with him during the filming of Crippled Avengers hence his absence as action director in their films beyond this.

This is a favor for a dear friend, and I suck at the internet almost as badly as Leung Ting. 🤣💪🙏 Thank you very much Alex.
I don’t speak Mandarin and don’t know if I could say that in Cantonese. This does not sound like a name Chinese would use for anything martial related.

Thank you 🙏
There's a UA-cam video of LT on CGTV, calling him the "wing tsun king." So there's a good possibility I'm going to be one of the last students to learn from sigung Wai Hong, maybe when I complete my training I should call myself Tiger King. Lol! Anyways, have you ever discussed or had any thoughts about Master Wong?

“Excuse me, Mr. Van Damme” story-- LOL Oh, man. What a bummer. I don’t know what I’d have done. I’m a huge Van Damme fan. Actually, I named two of my four children after him: Jean-Claude and Chance (from Hard Target). Currently working on a YT video titled: Why I Love Van Damme. BTW, hopefully one day I will also say: “Excuse me, Mr. Van Damme” 😂
Damme that was good Mr KFG.
Twice the Van Dammage
Plus emin was much younger I feel like leung ting was scared to fight William
To be fair, William had posted an open challenge in Combat Magazine saying that he would take on anyone any time any place at his seminars. So he kind of asked for it.
Didn't know that brother genius
Most people don't know about the background of this fight, but that doesn't stop them from talking. There are bad decisions on both sides and no one is blameless.
Canni use some footage to my video please?

UA-cam fair use - you don’t need to ask me!
WTF does Stallone have to offer on a Wing Chun podcast now, Stephen Tung Wai would be awesome!

According to Trobador Ramos, they merely exchanged ideas and techniques.
I feel Mr Ramos probably changes his story like underwear.
This Ramos is so slow and wooden, by the time his attack arrives, even the spectators have all gone home from boredom.
I think Bruce Lee have could kill Raymond Chow with one finger.
Even Raymond Chow would beat this Ramos.😂😂😂
What should Bruce be able to learn from that, probably tell me a lie!
Thank you for stating (in regards to the Wong Jack Man fight) that "It's another guy who doesn't want to be there."
Yeah, Wong Jack Man's entourage were a bunch of young punks(!), most of whom were barely out of their teens, who most likely talked him into it, since the Chinatown martial arts community actually wanted to ignore Bruce's unfortunate remarks at the Sung Sing Theater. (Well one of the three with Wong Jack Man was a kid nicknamed "Ya Ya" Wu. That nickname is descriptive.)
And at the time, Wong Jack Man's understanding of English in 1964...wasn't the best.
Relating that is despite the various narratives (by the Lee Estate) that it was an "official delegation sent by The San Francisco Kung Fu Community to stop Bruce Lee from teaching whites!" (The exclamation point is deliberate.)
That's why I dig your show.
Absolutely agree!
For the first time in my UA-cam experience, I am clicking the "set reminder" option

I don’t remember what this is referring to
@@TheKungFuGenius I'm sure you don't Alex 😜
I’m dead serious, we recorded this months ago and each video has multiple topics. Besides the topic in the thumbnail I don’t remember what else I talked about in this episode. You’re gonna have to remind me what you are referring to.
@@TheKungFuGenius you spotted a very intoxicated JCVD chatting to a person in Hong Kong, you wouldn't say what gender the person was. I know he likes a certain type of gender when visiting Thailand 😉
Oh no, you’re dead wrong on that, she was female.
I appreciate your kind words! We cannot control what other people do, we can only control how we react to it.
Respect to you Sir.
Thank you!

I thought you were gonna talk about Leung Ting's God awful Comics he "made" in the 80's and early 90's to compete with Tony Wong's Jademan titles. Holy shit they were garbage

Totally agree
Let’s called accomplished people “twats”
He shouldn't be exempt, from the numerous stories I've heard and his Triad association he's more than deserving. Let's not be passive aggressive.
