- Coastal Foraging along the low tide line can uncover so many incredible things. Amazing sea creatures and delicious treats. Join me on the shoreline where I teach about collecting many different delicious clams and shellfish. At this time of year the weather can be very wet and wild but I don't let that stop me. We find some shelter for a wonderful father and son cookup on the shore.

Tradition in the making. 25 years from now, James will be oon the beach with his family, toasting marshmallows and telling tales and educational experiences of his own life. Brilliant
Yeah, Brilliant! 🙂
If I can pass onto them a passion for the natural world then I shall be content. It has brought me such joy teaching our children about the world around them. 💙😊
What’s your background? Unbelievable knowledge of the marine environment, and often that of the land too!
I love that boy. He has a golden place in our heart!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@TheFishLocker you have , you can tell. it is very apparent.
Oh my goodness James is a right young man he is! Growing up so fast from the old videos where he was just a wee lad with his excavator and bucket full of rocks!
He is growing into a proper little man isn’t he. 😊💙
Loving this video. James is learning from the best. I'm a bit of a lover for scallops with the roe myself. I've been going through some major problems regarding mental health lately. You have been keeping my spirits up (with the rest of the Fish locker family). I'm sure I speak for a lot of people, but thanks for all you do.
If it makes any different Andrew we all have ebbs and flows. Peaks and troughs. I myself do not look forward to this time of year because the poor weather, the gloom and the rain brings me down too. But just know that this will pass and the sun will shine. 😉
Andrew, as a fellow Fish Locker fan my heart goes out to you! I wish you the best mate!
I feel the same Andrew, and always enjoy a bit of fishlocker action. today was a lovely day tho here in Leeds, I got quite a bit done in the garden and got the results from the first use of my trailcam and captured a robin, a mouse and my neighbour's feet! some days are better than others, keep your chin up and I hope things are on the up for you. cheers John and James for another informative and heart warming vid.
Hi Andrew,
The sun is starting to show its face around the corner and brings with it happiness and joy and plenty of fishing adventures. John is awesome teacher of the sea and extremely educational to watch and I too enjoy watching and learning different sea life things 🤝🇬🇧🦞
I know what you mean.
Somewhere off the Cornish coast there's a short sighted crab looking for his spectacles 😂
🤣🤣🤣
No better thing for a wee boy to be out doing this with his Dad ❤ Free, fun, educational, character building and loving. Just wonderful!
We love it. 😊
Thanks for enduring a chilly, wet day for us, John! I’ve been sick in bed, so I’ve been rewatching past videos. It’s been a wonderful way to enjoy a day sick in bed. I wish I was on the shoreline right now!!
I hope you’re feeling better Jess. 😊👍🏻
No matter how many times I watch you and James go on these adventures it warms my heart. Those were some beautiful looking scallops!
The pink ones were just stunning weren’t they. 😊👍🏻
Its great to see James tucking in to the scallops and he does love his marshmallows🐡🍥
He’s just living his best life. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker its down to you and Hannah that he is loving life well done keep it up
In 1974 I was lucky enough to go as far south as Bovisands beach near Plymouth, in the rockpools to the west I spotted a spider crab at least 6 feet full span of the legs, the rocks above the water to the east were covered in red anemones.
I think you’re slightly mistaken there mate. 6ft span on the legs. 🤔🦀
James's face full of marshmallow and a look of joy.Made me chuckle!!! Brilliant.
He’s a little treasure isn’t he. 💙😊
Love the video and love seeing James is enjoying shellfish!
Thank you Carol. 😊👍🏻
Reminds me of the days my dad would take us to the beach and we'd make a fire and eat. I can't tell you how much those memories stick with you. James is a lucky boy.
Sounds like happy times for you. 😊👍🏻
I think the best videos is when you bring James with you on your adventures.
Stay safe n well 🇸🇪
I agree. But this day was too wet for James.
Glad to see you. Hello from sunny Boston.
Hi Karen. 😊
@The Fish Locker Hello! Finally out of the hospital. Looking forward to clamming on Cape Cod this summer.
I like how you protect the environment and show us what nature looks like when it’s not too bothered. Here in the Chesapeake bay there’s a pollution crisis… I hope that one day I can help make it look like it did before the eutrophication. Your videos give me motivation to want to study and help everyone see what our ocean could look like. Great video as always!
I am so glad to see you eat the coral so many throw the away best part in my opinion
When it is full and vibrant like that it is delicious. When it is spent it’s not so good.
Everytime this guy says something I learn something new😊
I am glad you find the videos informative.
Beautiful coastline! I'd be out there all day foraging for cockles!
Fun isn’t it.
So great to see James eating those delicious Scallops. Lucky boy!!
He’s developed a real taste for them now. 🤣
Now that's how you do it.
Love the little fella just munching away,I wish my kids would eat like that.
It just took gentle and consistent encouragement 👍🏻
You're a brilliant Dad and an inspiration, cheers Ricky :)
Just doing my best. 💙
Rain is only a buzzkill when you are the Wicked Witch of the West. Those scallops definitely looked worth getting soaked!!
It’s not easy to film in the rain. 🤷🏻♂️
I am so hungry after watching this, I wish I lived near the shore for all those delicious scallops 😁
It was so lovely to see young James just tucking in, 'best boy' has very good taste.
He’s a little superstar isn’t he Natalie. 😊
Perfect way to end the week, sitting and watching you and James munching on some scallops!
He wolfed his down didn’t he. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker
Haha, yeah. They were gone in a split second. 🤣
Omg he melts our heart!!❤❤❤❤
Never leave home without your pocket bread….love it. I’ve done the same thing, still trying to get my nieces that are around James’s age on the practical food storage mindset.
Haha. It comes with time mate. Keep at it. 😉🤣
Best time of your life John and James, you will look back on these videos and smile, I hope you all have good health and prosperity in the future.
I already do Jim. Nothing I’d rather be doing. 😊💙
Great Dad, amazing to see pal
Just sharing what we love doing. 👍🏻😊
Another nice costal foraging John. Those clams must have been very yummy. Very nice learning from your sea life knowledges. Thanks for beautiful posting.
It is our pleasure sir. 😊
James is on top of things now!🥰
Love the dad time you spend with him. That's great!
Nothing I’d rather be doing. 👍🏻😊
Looked like a great adventure John.
Thanks Michael
Great Sunday night viewing. Making me feel hungry. James is a star . Thanks for persevering with the weather.
The weather has been very frustrating lately. 🤣
It isn't Sunday until i've had my weekly does of coastal foraging content :D Stunning once again, John!
Glad you enjoy it mate. 😊👍🏻
It's amazing how much he has grown in the last couple years keep up the great videos
It’s all the seafood he’s eating. 😉
If I lived by the beach, I would have a huge collection of shells! Every time you pick one up, they're always so pretty!
I have to stop myself otherwise I’d have a house full. 🤣
Lord- same!! 😂
I can only imagine the smell of those scallops roasting in the butter. Looked amazing!
Tasted amazing too. 😊
A nice rainy seaside picnic. Very Nova Scotia!
There is no such thing as bad weather, just inadequate clothing. 😉
Those reading glasses were one hell of a catch! In great condition too!
Haha. Cheers.
The best part of the whole video is to see your son and you sitting by the shallows enjoying what nature provided. Thats some quality time there and he would treasure it for the rest of his life.
very good . . . the weather has been quite bad at times lately but . . . at least not as bad they are having in the med at the moment . . .
The weathers been frustrating hasn’t it.
You got some Beautiful Shellfish , Enjoy your meal, glad to see you eat the roe too. It’s delicious!
As I said mate, when it’s full it’s delicious. 👍🏻😊
Watching his videos is such a relaxing experience
I am glad to hear it. 😉👍🏻
There's so much I love about this video I can't even name it all.
Thank you for sharing not only your knowledge but yourself and your family as well. And Well Done James! Both with learning about the fire and learning about the sea.
Thank you very much. We are simply sharing what we love doing. 😊👍🏻
So happy to see James eating shellfish ! Hopefully he will eventually like Lobster! Great video for our Sunday afternoon ! Thanks !
James does like lobster. Have you not seen the last 2 lobster foraging cook ups with James? He smashes half of the tail himself.
@@TheFishLocker omg that’s right! Sorry we’ve been watching some of the old videos! Ok so I’m feeling really forgetful now! 😜😜😜🤣🤣😂
Cockles and mussels, makes me want to sing Molly Malone ! These scallops look delicious, a bit of bread, lots of butter and smoky juices, heaven on earth 😀
Agreed. 😊
Love you brother. Thank you for every video. You are by far the best on UA-cam
We are simply sharing what we love doing mate. 😊👍🏻
I love this video!! The eco system there where ever you were foraging is absolutely beautiful! I wish there was something this beautiful near me. Great job with James as well. He’s so precious!
James is just a little treasure isn’t he. 😊💙
@@TheFishLocker yes he is!! He’s growing up so fast!
Sunday made! Fish locker foraging always makes a Sunday great!
Glad you think so Mark. 👍🏻
Happy times! I love seeing you and James spending quality time together
We love it. 😊💙
Watching you forage shellfish is so relaxing and satisfying to me! Scallops are my favorite shellfish to eat.
We love them!!
Another fantastic video! I love the attitude towards the weather, not a frown in sight. Reminds me of saying here in Sweden "There is no bad weather, only bad clothing". Cheers mate.
That is also a saying here in the military. 😉👍🏻
Ah yeah! Reminds me of camping trips in the rain....... Adventure!!
It’s all part of the fun.
You sir are one of a kind, skills most men would love to have, so inspiring, I’ve been fishing in cornwall for many years but still don’t have the knowledge you have. Hope one day John I could join you on your adventures and learn from a legend.
I’m simply sharing what I know and love doing mate. Nothing special or complicated. 😊👍🏻🎣
Shame about the weather John, but so glad to see you & James managed the cook up, thank you very much. Greetings from Cyprus. 🐟🐟🦞🦞
Glad you enjoyed it Jacqui. 😊
Next time you are in the north east, take a look at the shoreline north of Beadnell. You will be amazed at the diversity, particularly on a big spring tide
I’ll have a google of that now.
I absolutely adore your son learning and respecting nature
He’s such a bright little lad. Makes us very proud. 😊
There isn't a single video with James that doesn't make me smile! He's just like my son.
Another great video. If only we had scallops on the north east coast.
You do. It’s just too many people are greedy and take everything.
Man this is incredible, I wish I lived near a coast and one that allowed foraging like this. I'd be out there all the time, nothing beats fresh shell fish.
Fresh is always best. 😊
Been lurking for a while. Learning a lot from you. I greatly enjoy what you're doing. Building memories with "little man". He has the most awesome dad.
I really enjoy watching you and James forage,he is very smart and has learnt a lot from he’s dad puts smile on my face 😊
I have learned more in this video than any BBC wildlife programme. Keep up the great work 😄😄
We don’t watch mainstream TV anymore. Too much drama and politics. That’s why I enjoy your tube. You get to see simple and honest content about exactly what you want.
Hannahhhhhh. Just sayin I bow. To you. You all are family goals. I wish more families would take care of each other. ❤❤❤
We are just doing our best. 😊👍🏻
A very educational and enjoyable video.🧑🎓😃
And what a great way to end it. Father and son beach cook up. ❤️
Brings back fond memories of days on the beach and on the moors with my dad. Thank you.👍👏
James does you proud.😇
Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Thank you Ian, take care and have a wonderful day. 😊
Considering the weather looks like you had a great time on the beach with the delicious scallops 😊😊
You make the most of it mate. 🤣
Another perfect foraging video and like others have said James is learning from the best person around "His Dad" and he will be the future. Brilliant to watch as normal and great to see father & son having a great time and finishing with my favourites" Marshmallows"
Thank you very much mate. 👍🏻😊
It always amazes me how you see all these creatures from a distance. Glad you picked the glasses up, I wonder what the strangest this you have picked up on the beach
Picked up a few chicks on the beach in my time. But that was a lifetime ago. 🤣
Last year I followed your advice and tried to pick up 5 items and managed to pick up 5 cans of Stella, 2 were empty and 3 were still full, result
" You underestimated my power " 😂 The marshmallows war cry 😂
Scallops, hot butter and sauce , so simple yet the taste of heaven. And fresh bread for moping. Stop teasing us John!
Salivating Sunday !
Good to see the young'un
Thanks John, James
Jason
All of it is simple mate. But all of it is divine!!!
I'd love to see you down in San Diego for the pismo clams in the spring. They are absolute units! Each one is bigger than your hand and the really big ones are the size of a melon. Clam tacos for the whole family!
Holy cow!!!
ooouuuut on the shoaaar!!! "Now this one is close to absolutely perfect, how's yours James?" "Goop" (mouth full)
Haha.
So fun to see you find a cowrie shell in this one! Way to stick it out in the rain, too! Rewarded with those big scallops!
Worth it in the end wasn’t it. 😊👍🏻
Totally envious! I'd brave any amount of rain for fresh scallops that size!
Made it all worth it. 😊
We love Jim. Give him a squeeze for me from California!
Jim is wonderful isn’t he. 😊
Brilliant love your foraging videos. Great watching James learning all his dads skills.👏🎣
He is such a bright kid, makes us very proud. 😊
A masterclass of foraging at the beach. It’s most illuminating listening to you teach us and all that stuff is also being absorbed in such a young mind. I did find it most interesting as I do with all your videos. Thanks
Thank you.
James is brilliant! I really like seeing him in the videos!
He’s a little superstar isn’t he. 😊💙
Thank you for your efforts and the knowledge, John.
It is our pleasure Patrick. We are simply sharing what we love doing. 😊
James was in his element with the marshmallows bless him.Great foraging video. Spring is here 🙏🍄🌿🌳🐟🏕
Spring has finally sprung.
I use to hate Sunday nights, work the next day 🙁 But I’m retired now😁 and they are especially good at the moment with weekly shows from yourself and Nathan plus the wonderful Wild Isles on the Beeb at the moment.
Momentum is growing to protect the beautiful nature that we are privileged to enjoy, plenty of activists fighting the polluters and videos from your good self and others constantly remind us what we have but could so easily lose.
Conservation through education. 😊👍🏻
You are by far, my favorite family on UA-cam. I truly enjoy every minute here. ❤❤❤
I wish I lived there near you. NZ has a lot of diverse sea-life. Going for a walk, beachcombing is pretty fun. Collecting shells, scallop shells is fun. I only take the colourful ones lol 😂
You get some really beautiful ones don’t you. 👍🏻😊
Thanks for taking us along with you, most enjoyable, drooling over the scallops !! 👍
It is our pleasure Stuart. 😉👍🏻
I can’t get enough of these, I truly don’t think anyone else on UA-cam does it better than you! I’ve been gaining more and more confidence in myself and heading out to catch the low tides in my area, I’m really enjoying discovering all the life that I’ve been semi-blind to all these years, I even found a couple of scallop shells and a European oysters shell lately, I knew they were in the waters but I didn’t know they were so close! My new goal is to find some live scallops now, I can admire the oysters but I’d rather leave them to breed as they’re so rare now.
I also found a langoustine amongst the rocks not so long ago but I think the birds had gotten to him before I could, do you reckon it would be worth having a poke around to see if I could find any more or would he have just been dragged over from the deeper water by the tides? Thanks again for all you do man, best wishes once again!
Well done Barry for getting out and giving it a go and thank you. Have a great day and good luck on your scallop hunt. 😊👍🏻
Another fantastic video John. Awesome to see how much James is loving it! Thanks again for the upload
Thank you Phil. 👍🏻😊
Beautiful to see father and son day love it well done guy’s ❤
I can’t think of anyone better to spend a day messing about on the shore with. 😊🤷🏻♂️
Hello from the US, I love watching your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Mark. 😊👍🏻
Outstanding coastal foraging! As a father, I’m so impressed that you are making so many memories with young James. I know you are from Cornwall, but you have to know that DEVON IS GREEN! If my beloved Argyle is promoted, will you mention the Green and White Barmy Army? Up the Janners!
Haha. Nice try mate. 😉
Always an uplifting sight, to see father and son enjoying a bit of time together. Would've been really cool to see him with you throughout your search! This one is a definite banger! Top!
The day was too wet. James does come with me when it is good weather.
Just love watching your videos on a Sunday whilst doing dinner 👍 Thanks mush 👍
Any time bud. 😊👍🏻
You are so lucky to have such an amazing coast. I guess I have a pretty good one, if I can find the right spot or brave going out deeper.
The best foraging is finding where not many people go. 😉
@@TheFishLocker Good point 😄I am going to look more this and next summer and maybe next summer try a diving course.
Your little lad is coming out of his shell a lot more and it's lovely to see. Surprised you didn't have a little bit of garlic to go in the scallop shells though!
I’m happy with the hot sauce, hannah prefers the garlic. 😉👍🏻
That scallop was an absolute stonker!
Monster of a Scally wasn’t it.
Superb, i really love the foraging followed by beach cook up, back to raw survival type stuff, minus butter and chilli of course, love it, great video, thanks for sharing with us all
Haha. Survival meets gourmet. 😉
Good to see James enjoying the scallops and helping you cook. My son has a sea hare in his fish tank. They are not the prettiest!!
I think they have a lot of character. 🤣
Another great 45 mins well spent, always enjoy your videos and great to see James soaking up all his dad's knowledge.... Wet times but great times.
Agreed. 🌧🤷🏻♂️😊
I can listen and learn for hours. You and your boy make a grand pair! Your wife is a diamond too. I’d love to have had the opportunity to cook fish on the beach but there isn’t any where I live. My grandfather use to go fishing every day on the pier, in fact he “ fell asleep “ with his rod in the water and made the Clacton Gazette. That’s a true fisherman for you. 😘😘😘😘😘😘
🤣🤣
Love seeing James he's such a sweetie Love theses videos I can see things I've never seen and probably never will see that's why I love your videos so much thanks John for sharing and making an old lady so happy 😊
Dawn it is our pleasure to share our adventures with you. Take care and have a wonderful day. 😊💙
Great fun and informative to boot. Thank you once again for your knowledge and lessons.
It is my pleasure. 😊👍🏻
This is my favorite chanel to watch while eating for some reason. i don't even need to be eating seafood to enjoy this while dining. Love the foraging!
Thank you John and have a great day. 👍🏻
I love watching your videos I have learnt alot from them I'm from Queensland Australia.
I am very glad to hear you enjoy the videos.
Yes yet again a amazing video and James is learning after his father and starting to get a big boy now bless him , you two make a great team loved watching the cook up lads well done , and glad you put it in there 😀 👍
Thank you Greg. Have a good one mate. 👍🏻😊
