Uber has more business than Lyft in Toronto. However, registering with Uber is plain headache. Lyft responds in minutes while Uber takes days or weeks if it ever responds. But once you are done with the the registration and go online, you will see Uber has much more business than Lyft. At least in Toronto. Lyft will soon contact the city and the city will provide the link you so much need to take the online course. Turn both on. It would be easier if you have 2 cellphones though.

There was no regard for public safety, people were using personal vehicle as commercial business and no one knew if regular car insurance would cover liability for injury and death of paying passengers. That is why they have so many regulations and vehicle inspections now. Update: that driver has been charged with murder.
