It actually inspires me to see content creators fail at things! Why? It just shows that it’s not as easy as everything seems like when you’re an influencer or content creator.
    Thanks for sharing, Daniel!

yea but this is supposed to be a realistic view of this niche hustle. 99% of people do not have a youtube channel with such a large fanbase as this one, so that wouldn't be realistic if he took advantage of that

If you ever do this again one tip. NEVER run FB ads with the goal of get website visitors. Always run with conversions as the objective, optimizing towards purchase.
Web visitor optimization floods your site with a poor quality audience.

Might depend on different geographic with the Facebook ads.
Ofc in the Western where TikTok, UA-cam, IG, Twitter and Reddit are the dominating platform. In the Asia, especially in my country, Vietnam, FB is the most used social media channel and most of the businesses here run fb ads

What i love most about these experiments is that you aren't using your own established platforms for marketing. If you told us "HEY I started print on a demand and you can buy tshirts!" You'd get some sales for sure (I like the buy the F* dip one!). But it seems that you are starting as 'one of us', which is rad. Also, i thought your reddit ads were brilliant. It's such a pity they were sticky about it.

With what you are saying at the end about maybe having someone make better ads, I think that could make difference, only because when I had to study online marketing and that sort of thing, I was surprised at how small changes to ads, ad targets, and a website made a huge difference. One of the biggest things was consistent imagery across platforms. If people click on an ad, they expect to see a site that essentially looks the same as the colours in the ad, or have similar phrases etcetera. This consistency seems to make a big difference in my experience

The mug looks super good! Love it :). Since you mentioned Gildan being the brand that the print on demand was using, I just wanted to add that when I was working as a Buyer for a company that printed shirts and many other things, we used Gildan as well. We could bulk order for about $1.05 Canadian per shirt. Knowing that, it always sort of irks me seeing these print on demand places charge anything for samples that they send to creators. I understand that it is likely where they get a large portion of their revenue from, but it has always left a bad taste in my mouth

I went through this process in 2016 with a similar experience. Didn’t really know what I was doing but was great fun learning. I kept learning and eventually picked up a good bit of web design experience. Then realised the business was in actually building the websites. Set up in Feb 2020 and now looking to take on my first employee (after hiring a few freelancers). It’s surprising where the journey can take you. Absolutely got my sub for this video - would love to have an update on how many sales have been made due to this video!

Man that mug is so cool I want one and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Right after writing that comment I'm gonna search for my credit card 😛
By the way it would be very interesting to see/know, if that video on UA-cam helped you generate more sales ! Could you talk about it maybe in another upcoming video ? That would be great and I'm sure your community would Looove to see that ! 🙂 We always, as a viewer, like to know or see if we can have an (even small) impact or ripple effect on one UA-camr's journey, and we love to follow, help them and most importantly be a part of that entire process 🙂
For that project, maybe tiktok and / or Instagram were the roads to follow here since Reddit was so strict with its advertisement on this one ! (Maybe it wouldn't have been approved neither tho, nothing is certain).
I will definitely drink my morning coffee served in that mug anytime soon while watching you're next new video 🙂
Thanks for another great video full of informations and things to lean from ! Can't wait to see the next one 🙂

This was well done - appreciate the overview. I'm in the midst of setting up a POD shop so this came at a good time. It seems like to be successful with POD (and most things in life) you need to keep at it without sinking too much money into it.
I was actually impressed you were able to make some sales, I think given you only spent $100+ on FB ads you might have had more luck sinking that entire ad budget into FB.
I will keep watching for more content!

Obviously this was just an experiment for you, but do you get the sense that if you kept at it for a 6-12 months and were willing to operate at a loss for a bit - that this could eventually become a good business? Or is it too much of a volume game and the margins too thin?

Very informative! I think this is a great lesson in why content marketing matters. Had you become a thought leader, or the host of the subject driving those conversations you might have seen a huge demand in sales - without the need to advertise - because buying is seen as a way to be a part of the community or a way to support the creator. Example: You'll probably see more impact from this video series then the ads you ran because people are buying into 'you'

I work for someone who has been successfully selling graphic tees online for the past 20 years and the biggest thing I've noticed is that the designs need to be something someone would buy as a gift for someone else. I would say 90% of shirt sales that we do are gifts for another person as a birthday gift, for father's day, mother's day, christmas, or an aspect of their identity (musician, motorcyclist, gun lover, UFO enthusiast, sasquatch lover, gardener, teacher, nurse, book lover). If you don't know where to start with designs, start with animals. Everyone has a favorite animal and it works for a variety of age ranges and genders.
The best place to sell is through your own website which you will need to invest in google ads to get people to it. The other percentage of sales will be through Amazon and Etsy which you will want to run ads on too.
We do the bare minimum when it comes to social media ads. It's just a quick slideshow video of some of our top sellers with our website listed at the bottom. We run this on Facebook and Instagram.

If I were to do it again I'd want to build an audience with the brand first by doing some sort of media and then market to the audience of that media with merch afterwards.. a lot more work.. but hey I do more artwork primarily..

Why use Printify as opposed to Amazon Merch and/or Threadless? You can choose the type of shirt, such as soft or premium. Amazon Merch is free to set up, and if you get some sales, you can move up in their rankings. They also can get you in their international stores, such as Amazon UK, ES, IT, FR, and JP. Even without a great design if you get someone's attention you will make sales. We sell a bunch of "You're Muted" t-shirts and never advertised.

Thank you great video, I'm researching this whole thing generally, I notice Printify is mentioned a lot as the preferred vendor for POD. I was just researching some examples... they have bound notebooks... the pricing per unit seems reasonable but the shipping is an eye-watering 12 dollars for the first unit. Plus 3 more dollars for each additional notebook. That's $15 shipping on two little notebooks. I understand shipping cost is a decision to be made, but man that must cut deep into margins. If you do free shipping and they buy one unit, you are literally paying them to take it for free. Am I missing something? What are some strategies for managing shipping in overall price structure?

this is more like how I would think the majority of etsy/printify stores are like. Simply due to the oversaturation of these marketplaces, it might not be worth doing unless youre in it for fun or you want to wait months or years for your prominence in the algorithms to build. I've wanted to open my own shop, but realistically I'd probably end up getting a handful of sales over the span of months..

Hey man great video, just want to give you some pointers, to begin with tshirts just dont have the margins needed to run ads, you should have a minimum of 20$ margin per product to make money with ads which you didnt, when it comes to pod you have to be clever in what you sell and how you sell it, just taking a trendy design and slapping it on a tshirt wont work, try something like a custom made flag with the same design concept. But over all your attempt was good and you got on well with the ads but im sure you have some issues there which can be easy to solve, dont hire someone to do it just watch some dropshippin videos on yt on how to set up your campaigns and maybe give it another shot, love the videos and i hope you can make some more
