Hi,your video was really helpful:)Great explanation for each book.Just wondering which book would recommend for a student who wants to include it in their personal statement to show "they have done extra reading".I am in y12 and I am consider doing medicine.I was thinking of starting with 'Do No Harm'.

When breathe becomes air - this is a 'painful' book to read.. I teared in the end. 10/10 book!!!
Being Mortal - changed my perspective of medicine! Read it and changed the way I viewed my volunteering at hospital and subsequently how I tackled interview qns. And many other of those books u said! Really helpful read to expand and change ur perspective. Not exaggerating, but I definitely owe it to them for helping me get into medical school!!
btw, Atul Gawande's books are really good

Trust me I’m a junior doctor is one of my absolute favourites, as is the second book by Adam Kay! Your life in my hands is really interesting, and I just started war doctor last night-loving it so far 😁

I read "When breath becomes air" and "This is going to hurt" and they were both amazing!
I also get very excited over books, ecpecially around this topic, but I have my moments... Sometimes I'll read 4 books in a row and then not read anything for a while...
However, I essentially download them as ebooks and I'm sure it's not as enjoyable as having a actual book in your hands...but it's also cheaper :)
I almost have every other book yout talked about (also ebooks) so if you have a suggestion on which one to read first! :D
I can also recommend "Brain on Fire"! I loved it so much! I don't know if you've heard of it. A movie based on this book was released on Netflix 3 years ago! (beautiful movie btw)
It's not a doctor's story, it's a patient's story and it's also a bit like a diary, showing the progression of the disease until she got a treatment and was better
She had anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis and EVERY doctor thought it was a psychiatric problem until one doctor finally solved the mystery as she was getting worse and worse. Anyway! Very interesting book!
The man who mistook his wife for a hat! A classic by British Neurologist Oliver Sacks (he wrote a lot of other books by the way) ! Very interesting read but can be a little bit complicated sometimes I guess?

    Hi Atousa
I am the author of Rage Against The Dying Of The Light, my debut book that is a combination of fiction and a memoir. The book deals partly with the life of the protagonist as he goes through his journey to become a doctor-his medical college days, and partly deals with my own struggle to save the life of my son from the clutches of a deadly disease.
It would be really nice if you could read the book and share your thoughts.
If it’s possible please guide me how to go about it.

This is going to hurt- I was almost 2 chapters into the book but i kept feeling like the further I was reading into it the more it was trying to put me off being a doctor. I've always wanted to be a doctor! Everyone says it's a good book- I wanna know does it have light at the end of the book?? Anyone else relate to me and should I continue reading it.. Also thank you so much for the vid loved it!! Xxx

Read it. I have read it 3 times because of its power. It has light and dark at the end of the book. If you want to become a doctor then you have to face the realities of the job, Reading this book is just the start.

OMG atousa's video about medical books what can i ask more than this!! 😍😍😍 My first medicine related book was when breath becomes air and I fall in love with it. I am currently reading The language of kindness A nurse's story by Christie Watson. It is a novel where Christie tells us about her 20 years experience as a nurse at the NHS telling us about what a mental health nurse can be, pediatrics, critical care, special care baby unit... Life in the wards from a nurse's perspective. Amazing book.

I would recommend you the book "Why We Hurt" by Frank Vertosick. I think it is the first medical style book I've read and I love it. I guess it's like "do no harm" as the author incorporates neurological diseases some of his patients suffered from.
