I have two 4 ft long, very tall planter boxes that showcase my Coleus beautifully. They've grown more than four feet high and three feet wide - they're full and lush and look quite spectacular. I trim them frequently and remove the buds before they flower. I love them, and so do my neighbours.
Thank you! I love all the colors to choose from with Coleus. Since I do let my Coleus flower in the late summer / early fall, I do have Coleus that reseeds itself. They don't grow large for me though. How do your do from seed?
Aww ... thank you! I really like the color this year. Last year I had more of a mish-mash of color in this bed but I could see what worked well. So I tried to focus on that this year! 😊🐛🦋🐝🌺
Awww - thank you! I don't know why I just looked past Coleus and tried other plants that weren't successful in my clay soil shade bed. Coleus performs and there are so many different types, colors, textures, etc. I'm so glad I tried them ... now I'm hooked! 😀🐛🦋🐝🌺
Thank you! I think the contrasting colors are striking and really catch the eye. As I mentioned in a previous video, I had wanted to get Coral Bells established in my shade garden, but they just didn't like my clay soil and heavy rains. (They also didn't do that great for me in pots). I found that Coleus love the heat, humidity, and water. I can also get really interesting Coleus that have wonderful foliage. I haven't put caladiums into the landscape yet, but I have them in pots as accents. Maybe someday! If you do add more Coleus and Caladiums into your shade beds I'm sure you will be pleased with the results. 😊🦋🐛🌺
Welcome to the channel! I am so glad I tried Coleus after other plant failures in this heavy clay bed. I have had a lot of fun looking for interesting Coleus! 😊🐛🦋🐝🌺
They really do! I currently have a few sun coleus and three Proven Winners ColorBlaze series coleus this year in my shade garden. 😊 I have been so happy with their performance.
It's not unusual for some Coleus to revert to their "parentage". Some varieties do this more often than others. One way to help avoid this to continue is to pluck the leaves/stems that have the reversion. Hopefully, (but not guaranteed) this action will stop the entire plant from reverting all the way. Or keep it the way it's growing, just know the entire plant may eventually "turn". The same thing happens with varigated trees, and bushes. When a stem of solid green starts growing, pruning the "offender" away usually puts the plant back onto the variegated path.
Thank you for your response and this great information! I went and looked at all the reversion that has already taken place. I decided to keep it, as it blends with the Big Blond next to it. This is so good to know - thank you again! 😊🦋🐛🌺
No, we are fortunate in that we don't have rabbits (or deer) around that damage the plants. We have other challenges in the garden but not either of these.
I put the names of the Coleus in the video's description. 😊

Your planter boxes sound absolutely gorgeous! 😍 Do you have any favorite Coleus?
I love coleus as well. Such a good feeling when you leave the garden for a few days and return to positive changes and new growth 😊
I love the color coleus can provide since heuchera and hostas don't do well here. So for me it has to be coleus and caladiums! 😊👌
Coleus is the best to add color to a shady area. Just love it.
Oh boy, do I agree with you! 😊🦋🐛🌺
Love your shade bed with coleus. Great color combination. I just started to play with coleus growing from seeds. Such a pleasure.

@Butterflies & Birds in the Backyard
I kinda like the reversion too!
Do rabbits eat your coleus plans?
