Thank you for sharing so openly. Unfortunately jumps like that often come with no training and questionable boundaries so I think your new work philosophy will go a long way to lighting the path so good luck with it going forward. I had a similar "awakening" after I had my first kid its definitely worth stepping back occasionally.
I was talking to a friend about promotions. We agree that sometimes companies make a big mistake moving people from one position to another completely different. When you are a senior developer people think you must do a manager stuff without ask them if it is what they want. Talking about your video I got the impression that you used to be more happy coding than managing. Sorry if I got it wrong.
That's the reality, sometimes things turn out to be not what expected or wanted. I do enjoy leadership and programming and my ideal role is one that will allow me to do both. And that is what I am striving for, making changes to make time for programming
@@HolisticDeveloper let me know if you manage to do this. I don’t have an official leadership role but I have to since there’s no one else. What ends up happening is that I have bursts of programming and bursts of not programming. I find it very hard to commit to delivering anything if other people depend on me for stuff
@Holistic Developer, today I'm responsible for leading my small team, meet our client, specify the new features, deploy new versions of the system and solving bugs. That's a lot of stuff and I feel very tired. Although I like managing I don't think I'll be able to make both. I'd like to sharp my skills in architecture or take a step towards management only. If I'm not wrong I watched one video of yours when you said something related to quitting your job. Since then I started paying more attention about what you said and as more as I watch your videos more I feel in your shoes.

Sounds like you are doing work so called "glue work", you a keep things running and you are stepping up to make what is needed to get things happen.

Good.
DId the number or length of your meetings get decreased?
Yes, I am having less meetings 😊
I didn’t know engineering managers did design and architecture. Is this common?
Every company is unique and even within company the things can be different by team. For my case I get to do that.
It looks your schedule is a very busy now, so we have less your amazing videos. Anyway, congratulations and have fun.
