There's a solution to the AMD conundrum.. wait 3 to 6 months before buying. Early adopters are oftentimes unsurprisingly disappointed at a new techs launch.
AMD didn't say that it wasn't for gaming. Did they not feature the CPU benching on games? Yes they did. The answer is they knew it was not going to be good in games but saying it wouldn't would have affected pre-order sales. They didn't say "This is a Workstation CPU". It was most definitely marketed as a gaming CPU in an underhanded way. They knew it would not perform better than the i7 desktop line, so they feature it benching against an underclocked i7 workstation CPU. That being said, it does give a much higher priced Intel workstation CPU's a run for it's money and if that is your niche great. For that I can't deny that it would be a great buy for workstation applications. This right here is where I suspect Apple will start using them in their next line of Mac Pro desktops.
AMD does have a tendency to get better over time, which is really bad for them; hype something for launch and launch tests show it 20% below where it ends up...but they are accurate. They'd be far better goign the NVidia route where everything is as good as it will ever get on launch day.
Yeah it was the same with socket 2011, lots of problems with the drivers at the beginning. They will iron them out and in a few months when r5, r3 is out and intel lowers it prices we will know where AMD stands.

8 core 16 threads cpu with LOW clock speed that just launched have lower results than 4c/8t cpu with 5 fucking Ghz clock speed in GAMING? It must suck amirite?
bois, i have a 1080, and im planning to upgrade to a 1080ti, and a 5960x @4.4ghz , which i'm planning to upgrade to a 6950x. I game at 1080p. Ya know why? good, cause i don't either
I can't tell if you're joking or not. If you aren't, then get a new monitor and keep your CPU. Unless of course money is no problem here, then I'd say go with the fastest gaming hexa/octa-core CPU that money can buy.
Why the fuck does no one understand, AMD Ryzen 7 CPU SKUs are not meant to be for pure gaming, its the job for the Ryzen 5 and their budget lineup Ryzen 3. If you're too impatient get a fucking i7 or i5 for sheer gaming. The Ryzen 7 having 8 Cores has incredible multi-threaded performance, and its less than half the price of an i7 6900K
Cpt GeoMC ahem, it is, just not for current 4 core based games. the consoles have moved to octacore processors. so you will see the real strength of 6900k and 1800x in next generation games
Just because game developers are slow doesn't mean they aren't doing it. (Look at games in recent years a dual core no longer even boots in a lot of AAA game titles, and that is just the beginning of it)
+Ramin Rostami What on Earth are you on about? Games don't use "1 unit of CPU" anymore, we can already see with some existing games using more than 8 threads... But yes games don't utilize the CPU effectively. However it's extremely difficult to program games to run many threads in parallel, without latency. Only a few games show more than 8 threads with high usage (80%+). Whereas the single GPU can always be maxed out because it always works with pixels, and not complicated code like AI, physics, audio, netcode, main logic, etc etc etc. We may never see the day when 8+ or 16+ threads will be used effectively.
Linus. I HAVE TO CORRECT YOU . When speaking about snap chat you made the observation that the companies that rely on adds will make more than the companies that produce something. You agreed with Luke when he said you were making fun of Linus Media. I feel strongly that you do provide a service. Every day I look forward you ANY video. No matter the content, I play from your playlist for a bunch of random videos. I have always been into computers. I'm a electrician and a diesel mechanic who installs and repair generators over 2 megawatts that power large server farms. Your networking videos provided me with a solution to a problem that may have been very costly. In closing I want to thank you for the service that you DO provide and I hope you will continue for a long time.
Plasmaboo. I know (or is it no?) how to spell Diesel. I have no idea why it entered that way especially with spell check? I do not understand what you mean by ( or bi ? ) "And, the hell is that specific "diesel mechanic" job?" Keep in mind this is a you tube comment. If you need more proof that I'm ( or should I put I am ? ) educated enough to ( maybe its too? ) know how to ( too or maybe 2 ) spell ad I would be more than or is it then ?? happy to accommodate you or is it u? The one time I write ( right , wright or write your choice ) a positive response to a video it takes 2 hours for someone to be negative. Here's to looking at the glass half empty. No wonder the world is in the bad shape it is. Negative people looking to find problems with everybody. I will leave you with one last piece of advice. Next time you feel it necessary to direct negative energy at someone , stop and think for a moment. Maybe that person is going through a very tough time in life. They might be dealing with someone sick at home or what ever. The point is no one needs negativity in their ( there ) life. Take your energy and use it for something positive . Even if its just as simple as a reply to a You Tube post. The ball is in you court. P.S You are welcome to inspect any other posts because I can 100% guarantee to you that I will have many more spelling errors for you to make me aware of.
Plasmaboo, Jesse was never bragging about himself. Read his post again he was simply saying thank you to Linus for how his videos helped him during his job. Try not to be such an ahole. It is simply a UA-cam comment, the guy doesn't need to have perfect grammar or spelling, regardless of the content. How pathetic of you to insult and bring this person down for doing nothing more than sharing his thoughts. He didn't insult anyone and is 100% correct about too many aholes existing on UA-cam that have nothing better to do than send negative energy towards people. Grow up and take a good long look in the mirror.
Same goes to i7, not many peep would use i7 for gaming only. I for one sees it as a waste of money, when an i5 would just get the job done cheaper. For gaming wait for the R5 series benchmarks (though I wont expect much).
Tibialstone7 Its IPC is within 10% of Intel which is pretty amazing. It's held back by low clock speeds at the moment which is to be expected with first generation architecture. If AMD can coax out higher clock speeds out of Ryzen say for example a 4 core 8 thread same clock speeds as 7700k then it will be within 10 percent of said processor. Which when factoring in price is amazing. There's no reason to shit on Ryzen ( unless memory issues persist and smt issues persist) As its done precisely what Amd intended, got within striking distance of Intel but at fair better cost. Unfortunately the hype level got to high and people expected a brand new 8 core cpu to go head to head with a 4 core cpu with a huge clock speed advantage.
Because he had realistic expectations. So did I. Did you see the compile speeds on 1800X? This is what I need it for (and the occasional CPU rendering). Also, once you go 8 core, you're never gonna want to go back. The 1800X is FAR beyond anything I could have dreamed. I never thought AMD could pull it off.
All these people buying Ryzen for gaming and dont check the single core performance. Intel beat in both single and quad core yet Ryzen will win in multi core. Why buy a 8 core processor if your not a content creator or something.
Medo Gabr I'm not a fanboy, getting an 8 core CPU for gaming doesn't make sense because they run at lower speeds compared to 4 core variants, the R5/R3 line would make much more sense for gaming
THEE Yandere - Chan I might need it for game development, where I'll essentially be running TWO copies of the same game at once. If I'm both, does Ryzen work? Or if Lime says it works, I'll be getting it for an unRAID build because I would rather have an 8-core to work with.
1800x is a 6900k for less than half the price yet somehow intel fanboys are saying amd has failed??? lmfao the 7900k better be cheaper than the 1800x or be a 10 core with the 7950x being a fucking 14core I also could not give a dildo if the 7700k is 20fps faster than the 1800x when the 1800x is already over 100fps!!!! (it matters if you have some disgusting 144hz - 240hz monitors though) by all means though, if you only game, get the skylake or kabylake i5 or i7, best gaming cpus ever, but for us gamer/motion graphics/video editors, the 1700x 1800x is a gift from god lol.....yoza
ya idk why ppl thing this was for gaming, god linus thx for noticing it man in video~ Im just done with "its suck at gaming hahaha" when its not supossed too
Peoples expectations for Ryzen were WAY TOO HIGH. Did you REALLY believe that they were going to beat Intel in EVERYTHING? I certainly didn't, I expected them to bring changes to the CPU market and that is exactly what they are doing.
All these people complaining Ryzen. How stupid. I mean, for the first time in YEARS, AMD made a great CPU again. And not just a CPU, a CPU that CAN COMPETE WITH A FREAKING 6900K! On top of that, it retails for like half the price.
if i were to buy a cpu now with overall speed in mind (not just only gaming). the 1800x seems like a better buy than the i7 7700k and 6900 k. Am i right?
But even as a completely unoptimized mess the 1800x is still more than good enough for gaming and anything else you want to do with it. Now is the time to support AMD....more than ever. Imagine what they could do if they had even half the budget of intel. Their dollars go a lot further that's for damn sure...
No hes not saying AMD are morons. What hes saying is that most motherboard companys did not have there bios ready in time for when the cpu released, meaning that the cpus could not perform properly.
Joker had a gpu bottleneck for his 1080p testing. Which is why he was getting the exact same numbers or nearly. If you look at his 720p video he did you can see a 10-20% on average fps difference between Ryzen 7 1700 and 7700k. Which a few rare moments being 30-35% (though that's the exception). Even AMD themselves on a call with Gamers Nexus admits that they're supposed to be parity with broadwell-e, but not matching the 7700k. Only about 10-15% behind. Which Joker's video shows that. Anything more than that is optimization or things like bios/efi issues.
Let's run down some quick facts shall we? Joker OC'd his Ryzen 1700, and 1800x, and got near identical benchmarks to a 7700k with what is otherwise the same hardware. Other reviewers saw a 15~% disparity in fps benches at 1080p. With some instances spiking it as high as 20-30% When Joker dropped down to 720p, that 15~% disparity suddenly shows up. With a few instances spiking it to as high as 30%, just like other reviewers saw. Even with the same hardware and bios/efi versions other reviewers used. The most likely explanation, especially since he's the outlier here, is that Joker's setup was somehow causing his GPU to bottleneck at 1080p. Don't get me wrong. I wish Joker's results were solid and repeatable with other reviewers. But a fair number of other reviewers saw that gap in performance that you see when he did his 720p video. Which wasn't present in the 1080p video. For some reason. I'm not saying that Joker did anything intentionally. Nor am I saying he's dumb or anything. It could be some kind of weird issue with his system overtaxing his GPU somehow at that resolution or just when he was testing that day.
//whisper_fanservice Misconception, but a common one! Alcohol allows for more blood flow to your limbs, making you feel warmer, but in reality your limbs lose heat faster than your torso, so you actually are losing heat :D
yeah boi some drugs make u feel good too but yet they are bad for ur body and yet people do them, in addition, I dont truly believe but I just thought it would fit there ok? :D
as a ex-worker for a shipping company i would like to say, WE BULLSHIT A LOT ABOUT OUR ORDERS. A customer once asked where is his order thats suppose to go to France "Oh its half way there, its gona be there on monday" while it actually didnt leave our base until saturday and was in France next friday :)
Can you guys do a video on the idiot prices that people ask for their old hardware on kijiji and places like that?? I mean, I was just browsing and saw a guy with an i7 6700 non K and a GTX 750 and wanted $1800... I see people with i7 860 or whatever it was back then and some 5850 amd card and want $800 or more... I can send you a pile of examples if you wanna do a video telling people what their old crap is actually worth..
Mike F So funny enough, some of those computers actually sell due to the fact that kids or parents see "Gaming" and that its i7 or GTX or HD and theyll buy it not knowing what theyre getting. Sad but true.
The littlest things seem to annoy people... I totally dig the way you allow the intro to have the soft, almost indistinct talking in the background. It's gives the show some character. Don't stop!
Honestly is super disappointing to see all these stupid people and companies that have no idea how CPUs work destroying AMDs stock and launch. Games are optimized for 4 cores.. it's how it has been for awhile now. Also anyone with common sense knows that 4ghz is faster then 3.6ghz... aslong as the instructions per click are similar the 4ghz will be faster.... and if you on a game that only uses 4 cores. The faster clock speed will win while the other 12 AMD cores with do nothing... But gaming is not everything. of course the 7700k will game better!!! it's clocked a lot faster. Games aren't ready for 8-16 cores yet... but they will be one day! This has always been a problem with AMD there FX series was high core count, but low clocks and low instructions per clock. Zen is a great platform that is destroying Intel in speed per cost. Intel even lowered prices RIGHT away! If your a hard core gamer I would say wait for the Zen R5 series to come out; the 4 core 8 thread and 6 core 12 thread CPUs with better clock speeds. I guarantee you that these CPUs will be very strong in gaming! and probably good overclocking! AMD already said that game developers are currently working on optimizing there games and software for the high Zen core counts. This is good for everyone even Intel! Your 10 core 20 thread CPU may actually be better in gaming. R7 are more workstation CPUs that game very well! AMD said they would be for the hard working gaming market. Core gamers just wait for R5.
Eric Christensen lol since its the same architecture it will not overclock better, temps will still be high and gaming performance will be equal to the 1800X. The only diference will be in lower cache size and probably in freq andpower draw. This has been the case in every gen of cpu's from bothamd and intel.
Eric Christensen The problem is that almost every game ever released will continue to run better on Intel CPUs. If in the future developers are able to optimise for >4 cores, then sure, AMD's performance will improve, but you can't just ignore all the games released so far that are optimised for 1/2/4 cores. Either way, Ryzen is a fantastic platform. AMD weren't able to beat Intel in raw performance, but they've practically matched them at either equal or priced as low as half as what Team Blue charges. This is without proper drivers or software support. In a few years, we may well be seeing AND beating Intel not only in price and value, but also performance.
Anyone In Cherno Tbh the performance inevery other task is great for the price point BUT by the time they get the drivers fixed and bios problems and everything else intel is going to realease something even better. Future wise is poor .. i mean wtf amd only 2900 ram on ddr4? There are alot alotof games already out that suport more cores than 4 and they still do better on higher frequencies ... so amd is still behind in for gaming. They stress the higher resolution is were it shines, ok lets say we run it at high rez. and overclock both amd and intel... intel is still going to win just because it can overclock so well. I like competition but this is just a hiped up arhitecture that its not delivering on either gaming or overclocking and if u get a pc yo run 4k u will whant overclocking and gaming performance. Well i think intel is still going to milk us of $ just because they can. Feelsbadman
Mario First i'm typing from a phone, second I compare frequencies because 1 can only increase it by 300mhz and the other by 1000. Even if 1mhz from ryzen was equal to 2mhz from intel u still get a lower speed at that diference in overclocking u dumb fuck. If u like to pay more for something that performs worse just to say u have more $ then by all means go for it but if u care for performance go and read a bit before comenting some nonsese. Ryzen its just not that good for gaming period, if u buy it for something else yes its great but AMD did say its a comeback for highend gaming and its NOT. Not even talking about all the bios and driver problems that by the time they get fixed intel will counter them again.
Not when the new Xbox and Sony Consoles will be based on Ryzen Architecture, utilizing more cores and possibly even dual GPUs. With Devs now coding for Ryzen, Manufacturers working on new Motherboard Revisions and AMD on new Drivers and Bios, you can bet you will see good Performance gains before the year is up.
you are right Remo, but I'm not after top performance. the chip I'm replacing is a sempron 145, and I'm sticking with two R270 in sli. it used to be a 4 gpu cryptocurrency mining rig, that didn't pay out. I'm more interested in video production now, and I really don't play games any more. if I do I'll just turn down the settings, or wait longer for things to render. I love hearing about the high performance parts but can't justify buying power i don't really need.
When they announced the price, Amazon, MicroCenter, and Newegg all dropped the price on the 7700k and 7600k. I checked all 3 that day. But a couple days later when I checked again, they were back up to the normal price. So no, James and the article were not lying.
Talks about how car people are obnoxious when we talk about high end cars yet constantly features tech that is completely out of reach like petabyte project and 10 gamers 1 CPU.
People crying about Ryzen being crappy: 1. We don't know how well 4 core CPUs will perform, and those are which we gamers are interested in. 2. These things actually beat Intel at 8 cores, with less power usage, and HALF THE PRICE, and even in games the difference is about 20%. Would you pay $500 (R7 1800X--->I7 6900K) for that 20% extra power in games, while losing a little bit (1-2%) in rendering and other things those eat 8 cores? And I know, I7 7700K beats both 6900K and 1800X, and is cheaper, but as I said, we don't know how AMDs 4 and 6 core CPUs will perform, and those are going to be with about the same price tag as the 7700K 3. And as Linus said, the games are not exactly compatible with the Ryzen, just give it time. Also more and more people are starting to capture their games, stream and stuff, which means more and more people trying to cut and render videos, and there Ryzen even beats Intel.
this is the greatest cpu ever (for me) I dont game much but I do alot of motion graphics and i have always wanted the 6900k, but the 1800x pretty much tea bags it !! for less than half the price kill me now, hell might even go for the 1700x
Politics aside, there is a key difference between the two email stories, besides the obvious State/Federal discrepancy, and that is Pence's "GOVERNMENT BUSINESS" =/= "CLASSIFIED" information which has an entirely different framework of standars re: the proper handling of said materials. Somehow, most of the reporting on this topic seem to continue falsely conflating "government business" with "classified".
In games: Did you try disabling 4 cores to hopefully make them work as in the i7 1700? In another video I saw the i7 cores were being utilized at around 88% on a game whereas on the Ryzen each core was using around 50%...maybe this all has to be with core synchronization in realtime processes as it is a common concept we people that work in real time audio composition know. For realtime audio, if you wanna use lots of stuff the rule is "Is always better to have less cores and higher clocks" because if you spread the load onto too many cores the performance decreases because now core/threads syncronization is at play. Probably that problem is now new to gaming as multithreading with DX12 and Vulkan are now available and you guys are finding the shortcomings of having more cores in realtime critical processes. Try disabling 4 cores if you can from the BIOS/Tweak app. Or change the affinity of one game to use only 4 cores.
just wanted to let you guys know that Luke and Linus aren't actually in focus, the microphone is in focus. Otherwise, thanks for keeping us with the news :)
Here's the thing about 1080p gaming. It's like using the corvette to run a 100 meter track. You just don't do it. It will never reach its max speed. Besides, what Ryzen R7 is supposed to do is be something between 7700k and 6900k for as little as possible. And they got that on point.
Checked out the Epiphan site, went right to the drivers section of to check for support of some products. Bad news is that I'm not seeing Linux support, good news is that it says "Coming Soon!" Looking forward to it, hopefully they follow through. Edit: My bad, seems that's for the configuration tool, not the firmware or drivers. Still good news.

guys the auto focus on the camera is on the microphone and not on your faces. You are really blurry because of the depth of field. Either focus 20 cm further away from the microphone or add more light or higher ISO if possible and use a smaller aperture on the camera to get more stuff in focus. Like your faces for example. Please fix this it's driving my OCD crazy. Keep up the good work
add + 01:44 to all timestamps, the amount of time the twitch stream was not live, this corrects the time stamps, i can't be bothered to do it on a phone but we need another hero for that, sm1 at lmg could fix the description as well that'd be great.
Based on AMD product releases for the last 5 years, the product immediately under the flagship is the best to buy. Reviews have already shown the 1700x overclocking up to near 1800x performance, yet for $100 less, making the value proposition even better.
TL;DR - no consumer actually considered that a typical current game isn't optimized for a thousand cores/million threads; SDKs weren't taken into consideration as well. Wait for the lower end Ryzen CPU launches with 4 core/8 threads then compare the apples to apples (if you're mainly into gaming) specifically price for performance.
To my knowledge, AMD also supported ECC on the AM3+ platform with all their chipsets and CPU's supporting the function. But with that said, it was not a requirement for motherboard manufacturers to support it in BIOS.
Luke trying to hide his powerlevel when talking about Wallpaper Engine was hilarious, ''most of them are anime wai-.. I mean, strangely animated girls or smth... '''
Interesting as there's several validated benchmarks indicating the single threaded IPC is near, or slightly below the Core i5 7600K (stock with turbo). Also in various published benchmarks AMD's SMT implementation seems to cause wild delta's in the results regarding several video games. The early AMD demos didn't really express single threaded IPC, in fact they did a very good job obfuscating anything relating to those specific types of benchmarks. In the end even the 6900k's single core performance isn't much faster than a 7600k, which is why there's a bit of confusion between the massive delta's in various benchmarks between the two CPU's (1800X vs 6900k) particularly in gaming. This is basically the common argument of cores vs clocks, to which the results in most situations regarding games will almost always favor clock speed, this being especially true for software not heavily multithreaded like most modern game engines. It should be obvious as to why the 7700k would generally be faster in gaming against the 1800x in most situations. Which is no different than attempting to compare the Intel Xeon E5-2679 v4 @ 2.5 GHZ to a Core i7 7700k @ 5.0 GHZ in game benchmarks, the later would absolutely destroy the Xeon in gaming, yet in heavily threaded apps the $4,000 Xeon takes a dump on the Core i7 7700K. AMD got ahead of itself by pushing hype around gaming when the target audience for its high end CPU's focus on heavily threaded, and highly parallel tasks. The more cores you pack into a die, the harder it is to scale higher clock speeds, therefore single core IPC may suffer this is just the way it is because science.
I recently allowed my eldest to start using a hand me down phone, with only a messaging app and a very supervised and scrutinized list of contact. I also set it to "email and alert" with every app downloading in case he does not follow my rules, but, his into free android games and is nice enough to share with his brother minecraft sessions. He is really making a case for facebook, instagram and the works, but I set my foot down and told him he is way too young to understand what goes on behind that.
God, you have no idea how overjoyed I felt when he confirmed that Ryzen supports ECC. I really like home server stuff, and getting ECC in desktop gear is awesome when you eventually want to upgrade your desktop and reuse the old stuff for a server
Back to some classic WAN show: the intro music works again and Linus and Luke will still talk about how they leave the mic on for no reason during the intro.... and then straight into a prerecorded joke. Good times.
Petco has a pet rat listed for sale for $7.99 I estimated the size of the entire rats rear end as a grand total of 15% of overall body mass. That includes every area that could be considered a rats patoote. $7.99 X 15% = $1.1985 Current value subject to market fluctuations, supply and demand, ECT.
Wait what? Intel didn't cut no prices, some retailers did. Thats a big, clear and important difference - thats not an Intel response at all. I don't think Intel will react much to Ryzen, until infant.stage issues are resolved and optimizations properly roll out, and we all get a bigger picture of what we're /really/ dealing with.
Linus got it right the first time. Those SD cards go beyond SATA II speeds... It was 3Gb/s, and with overhead, speeds were ~250-275 MB/s... So there's that.
Haha mildly aggrovated Linus made my day haha, its bs that you don't get hardware as soon as the first review wave goes out a bunch of people watch this and imo you guys are the best at what you're doing! :)
There's a solution to the AMD conundrum.. wait 3 to 6 months before buying. Early adopters are oftentimes unsurprisingly disappointed at a new techs launch.
myplane150 nope, they make themselves dissappointed because they buy it for gaming. IT IS NOT FOR GAMING.
We should start recommending people to hold out on buying Intel until the R5 and R3 induced price cuts set in. ;-)

8 core 16 threads cpu with LOW clock speed that just launched have lower results than 4c/8t cpu with 5 fucking Ghz clock speed in GAMING? It must suck amirite?
My Xeon E3 1231v3 has about the same gaming performance. Didn't even notice that my pc is useless for gaming until the Ryzen release. lol
People are dumb sometimes

Thank you!
AMD, make a dual socket motherboard please!
Asterisk do R7's even support dual CPU setups?
Asterisk that's what the server chips will be for
Fucking Dual Opterons back in the day totally fucked shit up..... Well.... back in the day that was.
AMD Naples will need boards, so I'd imagine they're on the way.
Just imagine 2 R7 1800Xs on one board. For the price of a 6900k you would destroy in performance.
bois, i have a 1080, and im planning to upgrade to a 1080ti, and a 5960x @4.4ghz , which i'm planning to upgrade to a 6950x.
Dante Inouye you have all that just to play minecraft?
7700k is still the best gaming CPU for 1080p. it would technically even be an upgrade from a 5960x if you only game. 1080TI sounds killer though.
FatheredPuma81 there is 4k 144fps coming really soon
Dante Inouye I know why, some people aren't just satisfied with what they already have
Why the fuck does no one understand, AMD Ryzen 7 CPU SKUs are not meant to be for pure gaming, its the job for the Ryzen 5 and their budget lineup Ryzen 3. If you're too impatient get a fucking i7 or i5 for sheer gaming. The Ryzen 7 having 8 Cores has incredible multi-threaded performance, and its less than half the price of an i7 6900K
Cpt GeoMC ikr
Cpt GeoMC They marketed it to gamers during several of their benchmarks.
Remember the sniper elite 4 gameplay ?
Cpt GeoMC ahem, it is, just not for current 4 core based games. the consoles have moved to octacore processors. so you will see the real strength of 6900k and 1800x in next generation games
Mif M The "Next-gen" of games should already be here shouldn't it?
The consoles are out for over 3 years now aren't they?
Just because game developers are slow doesn't mean they aren't doing it. (Look at games in recent years a dual core no longer even boots in a lot of AAA game titles, and that is just the beginning of it)

What on Earth are you on about? Games don't use "1 unit of CPU" anymore, we can already see with some existing games using more than 8 threads... But yes games don't utilize the CPU effectively. However it's extremely difficult to program games to run many threads in parallel, without latency. Only a few games show more than 8 threads with high usage (80%+). Whereas the single GPU can always be maxed out because it always works with pixels, and not complicated code like AI, physics, audio, netcode, main logic, etc etc etc. We may never see the day when 8+ or 16+ threads will be used effectively.
LMFAO! Ya know... games can only use 1 unit.
I don't even know which CPU he's saying is better.
I do not understand what you mean by ( or bi ? )
"And, the hell is that specific "diesel mechanic" job?"
Keep in mind this is a you tube comment.
Apparently the BIOS is also going to effect things due to the AI in the chip being new so make sure you keep an eye out for updated ones...
I don't think that many people just bought a 1800x for gaming.
GamingGuru You'd be surprised.
GamingGuru Yeah people can be stupid.
And it's $500, a little expensive.
lucas rem God damn you're dense.
Same goes to i7, not many peep would use i7 for gaming only. I for one sees it as a waste of money, when an i5 would just get the job done cheaper.
For gaming wait for the R5 series benchmarks (though I wont expect much).
Time stamps a little messed up

Ryzen actually sounds really good. Wow! I'm impressed!!
Tibialstone7
Its IPC is within 10% of Intel which is pretty amazing.
There's no reason to shit on Ryzen ( unless memory issues persist and smt issues persist)
As its done precisely what Amd intended, got within striking distance of Intel but at fair better cost.
I never thought AMD could pull it off.
i prefer the 1700 more performance per $ the 1800x looks overpriced.
Because he understands that monopol if bad for EVERYONE except intel?
4 gh/z 8 core isn't really low clock speed. Now if the 4 and 6 cores can't get to 4.2 and 4.4 then I will agree the clock speeds are kind of low.
First WAN show. Love the live antics and mistakes. First time seeing Epiphan, and impressed by how the live, impromptu demo of it went so smooth!
All these people buying Ryzen for gaming and dont check the single core performance. Intel beat in both single and quad core yet Ryzen will win in multi core. Why buy a 8 core processor if your not a content creator or something.
THEE Yandere - Chan exactly
Ares5933 u fanboys are pathetic.
Medo Gabr I'm not a fanboy, getting an 8 core CPU for gaming doesn't make sense because they run at lower speeds compared to 4 core variants, the R5/R3 line would make much more sense for gaming
I would buy 8 cores cpu even if im not a content creator because 4 cores is too limited
THEE Yandere - Chan I might need it for game development, where I'll essentially be running TWO copies of the same game at once. If I'm both, does Ryzen work?
Or if Lime says it works, I'll be getting it for an unRAID build because I would rather have an 8-core to work with.
6900k is a failure because it's slower than the 7700k in gaming!!! $350 chip is better than a $1000 chip. TOTAL FAIL INTEL.
eyyop ikr
eyyop
it is really, its in a weird spot.
eyyop But Intel didn't market the 6900k for gaming.
AMD sorta did...
Remember the sniper elite 4 gameplay ?
But they were comparing it with 6900k itself on 4k, right?
Timothy Lim AMD also said it was a half price 6900K which is true
1800x is a 6900k for less than half the price yet somehow intel fanboys are saying amd has failed??? lmfao
the 7900k better be cheaper than the 1800x or be a 10 core with the 7950x being a fucking 14core
I also could not give a dildo if the 7700k is 20fps faster than the 1800x when the 1800x is already over 100fps!!!! (it matters if you have some disgusting 144hz - 240hz monitors though)
by all means though, if you only game, get the skylake or kabylake i5 or i7, best gaming cpus ever, but for us gamer/motion graphics/video editors, the 1700x 1800x is a gift from god lol.....yoza
ya idk why ppl thing this was for gaming, god linus thx for noticing it man in video~ Im just done with "its suck at gaming hahaha" when its not supossed too
Chur the performance might get better for ryzen if they fix some things with the bios, but that's just what I heard
how has it failed? all it needs optimization intel processors have been out for a while that is why they look better
Chur did you even watch the video?
did you mean to put quotations around "1800x is a 6900k for less than half the price yet somehow amd has failed"?
Am i right?
Mewzyc wondering the same thing but for the 1700x, can we get some opinions?
Mewzyc if you do mostly gaming no if you do a lot more workstation stuff then yes.
Cside well if you wait it will be good for gaming
But even as a completely unoptimized mess the 1800x is still more than good enough for gaming and anything else you want to do with it. Now is the time to support AMD....more than ever. Imagine what they could do if they had even half the budget of intel. Their dollars go a lot further that's for damn sure...
Nya Stclair Gamers should steer clear of it 100% if they wanna support amd they should wait to see if the 1500x is any better for gaming.
How joker got the 1700 to have more or equal performance than 7700k then?
sbcontt but could could amd know that Asus would release boards that had bios problems
GPU bottleneck at 1080p.
Let's run down some quick facts shall we?
Joker OC'd his Ryzen 1700, and 1800x, and got near identical benchmarks to a 7700k with what is otherwise the same hardware.
Other reviewers saw a 15~% disparity in fps benches at 1080p. With some instances spiking it as high as 20-30%
When Joker dropped down to 720p, that 15~% disparity suddenly shows up.
Linus should grow a beard...

Sad but true.
its freaking weird man. a few months ago I bought a rx 480 (~$200) and sold my 4 year old r9 270x for over $100, on an auction that started at $1.
late 2012 27" iMac downgraded to 4 GB dedicated and 512 mb vram was like $2000 USD. that POS could barely run the 1440p monitor lmao.

Bryant White happens to the best of us
I miss when back in the days most people had actual, meaningful, slightly-less-pathetic goals in life.
Anyone In Cherno
Tbh the performance inevery other task is great for the price point BUT by the time they get the drivers fixed and bios problems and everything else intel is going to realease something even better.
Feelsbadman
Mario
First i'm typing from a phone, second I compare frequencies because 1 can only increase it by 300mhz and the other by 1000.
8350 = $139.53 < rat's patoot
yep, just bought one, should be plenty of power for the next 5 years.
Grady Houger the fx8350 is good for normal PC things but not gaming. it a bit of bottlenecking
feddo k depends on your graphics card. I'm just saying that if you buy an fx 8350 it can hold back the full potential of your graphics card.
you are right Remo, but I'm not after top performance. the chip I'm replacing is a sempron 145, and I'm sticking with two R270 in sli. it used to be a 4 gpu cryptocurrency mining rig, that didn't pay out. I'm more interested in video production now, and I really don't play games any more. if I do I'll just turn down the settings, or wait longer for things to render. I love hearing about the high performance parts but can't justify buying power i don't really need.
Grady Houger ah ok. Well then the 8350 should serve you well
When they announced the price, Amazon, MicroCenter, and Newegg all dropped the price on the 7700k and 7600k.

People crying about Ryzen being crappy:
And I know, I7 7700K beats both 6900K and 1800X, and is cheaper, but as I said, we don't know how AMDs 4 and 6 core CPUs will perform, and those are going to be with about the same price tag as the 7700K
3. And as Linus said, the games are not exactly compatible with the Ryzen, just give it time.
Also more and more people are starting to capture their games, stream and stuff, which means more and more people trying to cut and render videos, and there Ryzen even beats Intel.
Bethesda?? lol they have the most outdated game engine and the worst story telling major game developers
Me Mer lol that's why everyone plays their games right? Stop being jealous because you don't know what gaming is
this is the greatest cpu ever (for me) I dont game much but I do alot of motion graphics and i have always wanted the 6900k, but the 1800x pretty much tea bags it !! for less than half the price kill me now, hell might even go for the 1700x
In games:
Did you try disabling 4 cores to hopefully make them work as in the i7 1700?
Sad that you guys didn't even mention 1080 ti :( I was so excited to hear you guys talk about it.
did you just fart?

They did very well. I only hope they soon deliver a vega card that makes me want to upgrade (good pricing) from a 770.

just wanted to let you guys know that Luke and Linus aren't actually in focus, the microphone is in focus. Otherwise, thanks for keeping us with the news :)
MAKE THE SHOW LONGER :D ALWAYS INTERESTING!
I like when Linus and guests talk during the intros. Please continue doing that.
i like that you guys talk during the intro. feels like pixels of yourselves are talking.
I just shouted to the ceiling "COMPETITION WORKS".

LOL "someone complained that you talk while the intro music rolls"
so funny
guys the auto focus on the camera is on the microphone and not on your faces.
Talking over the intro is perfect.
Thanks for not calling this a "podcast"
"You're wrong and dumb for expecting good gaming performance".
Finally somebody says it.
Usually, Linus (nowadays) has the most fake, clickbaity preview pictures for his videos. THIS preview picture though is the BEST EVER! LOVE IT!!!
Way to end! Thanks for the laughs.
best wan show yet! keep up the good work!
linus tech tips where linus will spend 100,000 on a server but he still has the neon pink civic
wallpaper engine was good at release, then the workshop got invaded by the chinese
I got FreeNAS running with a Celeron G1610T which supports ECC memory. So there are options to build a cheap NAS with ECC memory.
I like my 16:10 monitor, because at 1920x1200 you can edit in a 1080p window and still have your taskbar under it for your other tools.
Best WAN Show outro in a log time
To my knowledge, AMD also supported ECC on the AM3+ platform with all their chipsets and CPU's supporting the function.
WE LOVE YOU DOLLAR SHAVE CLUB!!!
My mother's car has rain detection in the windshield and it's a Peugot from 1998...
you're welcome for the testing
26:28 pretty sure Luke just farted while smiling at Linus
Good times.
The main reason that TV advertising is so expensive is the large amount of regulations that need to be conformed to that arnt the same online
Thank you JJMC89.
Petco has a pet rat listed for sale for $7.99
I estimated the size of the entire rats rear end as a grand total of 15% of overall body mass. That includes every area that could be considered a rats patoote.
$7.99 X 15% = $1.1985
Current value subject to market fluctuations, supply and demand, ECT.
i like how they have a kickass streaming setup which they tried to fix in like forever but still, they are out of focus while the mic is focused
Sony announces 300 MB/s R/W SD card timestamp is wrong. it starts at 54:16
they missed an upload for the wan show ,
is it only me that wants an upload today instead or with the wan show?
Never watched the WAN show before, never gonna miss it again :D
Now THAT was a sneaky fart at 26:30!
6:47 it was at this point Linus realized, he fucked up
Haha mildly aggrovated Linus made my day haha, its bs that you don't get hardware as soon as the first review wave goes out a bunch of people watch this and imo you guys are the best at what you're doing! :)
Also cant wait for your 1080ti tests! Hope that shipment goes smooth!
Damn I should have made this one comment, but Luke ua-cam.com/video/tTbr7BNncB4/v-deo.htmlm24s what did you want to say here hahaha?
just saw this show for the first time,,... you guys have a fan in me!!! awesome stuff
