Thank you Sir!
Corporals Corner you sir are a stellar individual as well!
Corporals Corner AHHHH HA ! :>
Thank you Dave! Over the decade+ that I have been learning from your videos, it is great to come back to your Woodsman's POV periodically, as a robust approach to preparedness philosophy & practice.
I actually said to myself, “I hope he explains what that notch is for”. Thank you for not overlooking it.
Tony M me too...what a great idea too
It could also be used to clean the outer layer off of pine tree roots for making cordage. Just place the root on a downed tree, place the notch of the knife over the root, and pull the root through the notch.
I just got a new knife in the mail today...it has a gut hook, and I mentioned to my husband what Dave was talking about and we are going to try the gut hook next time we cook over a fire. Will be handy if it works out.
Great video Dave. You are my favorite survivalist ever since the show. I hope one day you get another show.
My comment is not really on this particular video, I am xmilitary, live in Montana, grew up in the Rockies, spend most of my time off grid and in the mountains. Your videos and instruction has enlightened and most definitely inspired the quality of life for me. Many thanks and blessings. Your student Dan. Thank you.
Miss your old school videos like this. but im proud at how far you have come. Glad to see everything is going so well for u. Thank you for everything you have taught me over all these years.
yikes 2018 is not old school
Your format system has not change in year and it work so well. Thank you for teaching us all.
I love all of the stuff you do Dave. I truly enjoy watching your videos and reading your books. Keep on doing what you're doing, thanks. God bless.
Thanks for all you did for the military guys and for showing us your pack out. It was also nice to meet you, Jamie and you Father at the Blade show in Atlanta.
Very nice load-out. Thank for sharing your experience and wisdom with all of us.
This was quite helpful; I was getting concerned my winter load-out was getting obnoxiously heavy. Minnesota in mid-January is no joke. Four nights in potentially below zero takes some planning. I'm happy with my gear, but the bulk and weight were getting concerning. I'm at 40lbs without water or food. I'm not hiking far, but far enough. If your week-long teaching loadout in decent weather hovers around 30lbs, I feel MUCH better about where I'm at. Thanks for everything as always, Dave. You're an exceptional teacher.
AWESOME! Please keep the vids going. I spend alot of nights shift working. Its great to watch outdoor stuff when stuck indoors.
Absolutely love what you do, what you present and represent Dave! Outstanding work what you and your crew do. Please do NOT ever stop. I truly hope to attend class with you one day.
Watching this for ideas to prep for a several day primitive bike packing trip next spring. I will have the luxury of a bike cargo trailer that has more capacity (100lbs) than backpack you’ve shown, but there is a limit to what I can haul (targeting about 30 lb base weight). Of course what I will bring is a little different. I’ll be carrying a small tent and sleep system, bike repair tools and a few critical spare parts, a change of clothes (or two), a little more cooking gear, non-more food, and some personal and feminine hygiene items. But what you covered is good info to make sure I pack with me.
Super great video Dave.
Thanx for sharing....
You have to love a regular guy like Mr Canterbury! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge thanks Dave!!!
Mr Canterbury, you never, ever, do any less than impress me with your knowledge and insight. Thank you so much fr everything you've taught me in the last 10 years. In my mind, there are really only 2 instructors that I would rate for outdoors survival and/or skill preparedness, and the other one is John Wiseman. I will always be appreciative.
That take down on the silky vs bahco thing was spot on!
I'm glad you are out showing us your survivor skills brother. I've learned a lot from you. Thanks
I've been watching your videos for a long time Dave and I think of you as the elite of survival instructors
The Corporal....love his channel.....Well David...this explains his ability to “Smooth It”. Always love your content. :>
Will duplicate the set up & field trial it. Cheers mate. We follow your classes, training & instructor's vid. Hopefully we will eventually get as good as Pathfinders Certification. Cowabunga.!
Thanks for sharing Dave. Like the Plumb mod, gave me an idea for a few spares I have laying around.Be safe on the trip!
I like the information your sharing and practicality behind it. My favorite comment is, "somebody will ask me this".. Thanks Dave
I bet the people who watch this channel regularly are some of the best people in the world .
Because Dave is such a respectable man, who I have looked up to since I first discovered the man.
Thank You Dave Canterbury For Being Such A Fine Example Of A United States Citizen and person..
Dave, Thank you very much. Very informative and educational.
Thank you Dave for the video.
Great kit Dave, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing!
Hope you have a fun trip!
Take care,
Aj
Glad to see you looking good Dave,
Dave Canterbury is a stellar individual!
Awesome video!
David i accompany your videos from brazil very good
Finally, how to load a pack. Thank you for everything you've taught me.
Great to see you are wearing a Ben Orford t-shirt. Makes great stuff as well. Made a custom leather belt for me that I still have.
Thanks for showing.
Happy 4th to you Dave.Great video and great information as well. That pack is incredible.(On my wish list.) Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. All the Best to you.
Thanks Dave.
Really like your channel Dave! Good stuff brother! I’m ex-military too, well, 11 years KyArNG ( actually 10 years Ky, 1 year Ohio), I was honorably discharged, should have stayed in and retired but that’s a long story for some other time! Take care brother, peace ✌🏻! PS- thank you for your service!
Hey Dave your a huge inspiration to me have been since the tv show even more now. I was in a lot of trouble in life filled wrong path and people my step father loved your stuff. He passed a while ago but it got me in the woods learning from you, i buy your books every chance I get I’m also from Ohio and would love to tend class but I don’t have a lot of money. Please message with info and if you would it would mean the world to me if you stop by my channel and leave a comment that would be huge. Keep inspiring and thanks for helping me you have more than you know take care my friend.
What tv show?
Another good video by you Dave
Great video Dave. I’ll be at the gathering. I’ll be kicking around with Blackie and Randy Smith. Hope to meet you while I’m there. Keep up the great work and the awesome content.
Love that backpack! I'm going to have to check that out. Thanks Dave!
Nice ruck. Thanks for an awesome video
Great to see you sir !
Be Safe on your journey....Thank You, for all you do for us.
Great looking pack Dave!
thanks for the load out lots of good ideas..safe journeys
You are a master of your craft. I travel for work, if I make it back your way, I'm taking a class.
Great job Dave thanks again the silky saw is a pulling type saw not a pushing saw
That's supposed to be true but I broke the gomboy I had during pulling.. go figure and its made in Japan so I expected it to be top quality.
Great video, had not thought about the notch in knife tip, now I got to go add one to my Moras lol
Good ideas as always. Nice ruck from Malcom
keep it up dave.love your videos
AS ALWAYS , THNX DAVE
I really like the Hidden Woodsmen rucksack. Nice load-out too...!! I bet if you field stripped your MREs, you could get 4 meals in the pocket too...
notch on the knife is a great mod. Great video Thanks for the Info
Your Helikon Tex poncho is a perfect value for money item!
Dave, I have read that Silky hardens thier blades for wear resistance/ edge retention. My personal belief is you would want a Silky blade for long term survival scenarios since it would in theory last longer when used correctly.
Silly is just a trendy brand so that theory is silly just like silky. I had two previously and gave both away to friends after the gomboy broke from bending while the katanaboy was expensive to replace blades and to delicate to use rigorously. Laplander for small saw, Boreal for bow saw.
Thanks for the teaching
Just checked out that rucksack from Hidden Woodsmen..... SON OF A@#$#&!!! WHAT A $##$&!! I'm sure it's a nice pack, but...... THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS? Ouch. And that's without the frame. I would love to have one, but man oh man, I could wear out a ton of Alice packs for three bills. And the Alice has the axe sleeve built behind the middle pocket that I have come to love. Why he would omit that pocket makes no sense to me. Absolutely LOVE the video though, Dave... Thanks for sharing!!
Nice Ben Orford tee. Not enougth footage from Ben but always quality, like yourself. Keep it up.
Great one for sure. Be careful in Japan and see ya at the Gathering.
Thank you, safe journey
There is a fella " Marty up North " that does solo treks into the back country of Canada for up to 9 days at a time . These are the type of gents who are hard core and are well worth watching for tips on how it's done . Especially the mental side of it.
Great load out. Would like to see a review of that snugpak sleeping pad if you get a chance. Thanks for sharing.
Anoter excellent video, and a really objective evaluation of the Silky vs. the Bahco saws
David. No pffense but i didnt like you on Dual Survival . But i love you on all your other stuff . This is a great video . Thank you for sharing your experience and your input on gear . I would pick you as my partner in survival anytime . I am a long ways from having your experience and skills . Best of luck to you and yours .
Have you showed us how to make the hammock out of the poncho in a previous video? if you did will you please link that video, and if you haven't, will you please do a video on that? thank you...keep up the good work and please keep the videos coming.
Nice organization Dave! You explain quite well.. I will say that I do like the Bahco folding saw a lot. I am not a fan of the trendy Silly brand saws, I gave the two I had for a bit to friends, I also broke the gomboy so I feel what you're student likely went through haha. If I am going to do serious sawing I will use a folding bowsaw such as the Boreal 21 its bombproof.
Hey! that poncho is made in China..
Very good!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great content greetings from kentucky
God is with us, David. I always try to live and do things how god intended them to be. Its pure exzellence. living is an eternal struggle. Those who fight for their life, own their life to the fullest. God is with us. Stay sharp and keep it flowing
I'd love to take your course someday. I skipped over Boy Scouts, and am a combat Army veteran. We never learned any survival techniques in the Army and that was something I was hoping to take part in when I signed up. I want to learn how to live off the land if I ever had to. Also, it'd be good to know what kinds of areas I can practice in since every bit of land seems to be owned by someone.
Awesome kit Dave, wish you could show them how it's done onthat show alone lol. They would probably quit upon your arrival
Freaking awesome great information thanks so much
Dave first of all love your knowledge and advise....but I was wondering if you could a video of a long term canoe survival type outing with the gear for that clothing, food, tools etc....i haven't found any that explains in detail or what might someone encounter in longterm months in or on a canoe trip thanks in advance if you can do it or corporals corner thanks guys y'all are the best
Hey dave,
Could you make a video on how you use that poncho as an emergency hammock, and maybe talk about how comfortable it is? I'd really like to see all the ways you use a poncho as a survival shelter.
really like the whay you make things simple what is the hatchet tha you use in this video please
Hey dave, I was on your website the other day, and I saw that u dont sell the pks spirit. I love the knife and have had no issues with it, but I was wondering if because you guys don't sell it anymore if the warranty would be invalid. Love ur videos and keep it up. I'm visiting ur new store location for the first time in July ninth. I can't wait to see it.God bless brother
Good video Dave. I was comparing the pack you showed in this video to my ALICE pack didn’t see much difference. The reason I mention this is that I was wondering if there’s any advantage to the Hidden Woodsman over the standard large ALICE? Personally I’ve enjoyed using my ALICE as long as I keep its weight below 50 or 60 pounds total weight.
Sat where he is sitting as a student, his course was great.
Nice pack brother and load out , thank you for taking the time.
That's a great looking pack.
What compass do you prefer personally, and what do you look for and out for in a compass
Dave, If you are hiking, lets say for multiple days, should you strive to have your pack lighter in hot weather vs cold weather?
Cheers Bro
have a good time in Japan!!
I have a lot of respect for you and your skills. But I have kids and in a shtf senerio what is the best shelter to keep them safe thanks. Just to let you know I quit watching dual survivor when you wasn't on the show anymore
What about Corporals Corner heading up some west coast classes.
David always a fan and I often feel like a kindle spirit! Thanks for sharing, I have a cold steel spiked tomahawk which I’ve put a nice edge on . But what do you think of the spike? In some ways a hammer is more useful! But I can use the side of it or a log as a mallet. Also why dose it have a spike? What purpose was it for ? Not just a weapon I hope? Perhaps for undoing knots like on a navy pen-knife? As a navy axe? What do you think?? Cheers 🍻
You have made me curious. What (issued?) gear did the military guys use? What items did they have to purchase on their own?
I love that ruck, but what got my attention was your axe where would a common man find one?
Joseph Lawrence Morning
How would you go about getting more water as you go? Would you please do a video on that?
Atkrdu he has videos on that subject. Check out his play list. There are great videos on that and many other topics.
@Joe Second What are those? I know what a Sawyer filter is & I know they have roll-up bags for it, but I never heard of a smart water bottle or a "Sawyer squeeze."
Atkrdu Are you serious? more water?? By going to the nearest lake, river or creek.. Then boil the water. Otherwise bring a few gallons with you to begin with.
Thanks for the detailed video. Do your carry any medical items or a formal IFAK?
Dave, I see you met Ben and Lois Orford at the Bushcraft show in the UK , what a nice guy and super talented, did you score one if his beautiful knives?
Have known Ben several years, have a few reviews of his tools on my channel as well
glad to see you on the silky train. i much prefer the silky as they just go through wood (get the large teeth), though the bahco is more durable
The notch on that knife is a good idead. Have you retired your plsk1? Havent seen it in a long while
Thank you for your service. Some good ideas in this video. What branch of the armed forces did these students belong to?
Have you ever used kifaru international packs? I just figured you would appreciate their kind of packs. I really like watching all of your videos! Thank you for all the info.
You should go on Alone tv show. It would be great to watch.
