The rules for riding an ebike in the UK and Europe are these: the bike must have a motor with a maximum power of 250Wh, it must be pedal-assist only - a throttle is only allowed for speeds up to a walking pace. The motor must stop assisting when you get over 15.5mph (that's 25 km/h).24 Nov 2020
Well explained Dan.
My new E bike don’t have a throttle, it is just cycle assist, I wish I had got it before now, I have put pannier bags on mine to put my cook set in, my wife has an E bike as well hers has a basket on it so we can load her up more lol😂 I hope you get a load of enjoyment with it mate.
@@norfolkhiker1449 electroheads.com/blogs/news/electric-bikes-legal-uk-law
in the words of Tenacious Dee "Thats where a little studio rewiring comes in.. my hard-rocking amigo" (edit technically ur bike is illegal cos u fitted the orange wheel reflectors they are for the |US market, u need clear/white ones for the UK ;) ... )
@norfolkhiker1449 Sadly, even with the throttle removed, his bike is still illegal to use anywhere other than on private land that has no public access or right of way. It is fitted with a 750w motor and has no certificate of conformity. Still a lovely fun and practical bike though.
Forget what other I’ll informed UA-camrs may think is the law in the uk.
Here is what the legal requirements are for an EAPC and what is considered not to conform.
This bike featured with its hand controller is not UK legal and is as illegal as riding a motorcycle down those tracks. If it’s motor is not marked 250w or less it’s also illegal to use. Regardless how it’s electronically restricted.

Iv had an ebike for a few years and just got my second one ,I couldn't be without an ebike now ,they are great for getting out on a nice ride ,kayaking, wild camping, fresh water fishing ,cycling, hiking ,astronomy, just luv the out doors ,thanks for your great vlogs
Best time now the summer is coming
Same here Brian on my second one. A complete game changer E Bikes. Full mud guards fitted though.
16:00 One of us, one of us! Love that e-bikes are getting more people out into their country more often
Your honesty and openness are refreshing, well done mate, thumbs up!
Nice video buddy. I'm a new subscriber, been going through your videos over the last few days. Please stay as you are buddy. I love how honest and real you are.
Oh, also have a look at your video tags on this video mate! The first one is an error. Have a good one
The bikes are getting covered in mud at this time of year Dan, it's impossible to keep them clean.
The E bike revolution will get many out in the fresh air but I can't help but think they know what could be coming. Maybe in a few years the only transport many people will be able to afford is a bicycle or E bike. They are trying to price us out of our cars
Mate we think the same 100%.. stopping car in areas like city's, school areas, more cycle lines
I follow you up to the point of 'being priced out of cars.' Were I to live in the British villages I have visited, an e-bike with panniers would be fine for market shopping. There are more and more electric vehicles coming to market and prices are coming down. Other UA-cam channels cover them.
Iv'e owned an Ebike for 2 years now and love it especially up hills as i am a bit the hill now lol , use assist lwvwl 2 on flat ground and level 5 up hills and looks like i'm peddling like a tour de France champion up hills Weeeeee.
Thankyou for watching
Non-custom push bikes and e-bikes are generally shipped/sold with the idea that the customer will upgrade components at some point. Pedals, mudguards, tires (tyres?), seats, even non-proprietary handlebars are generally the items that people swap to personal liking. Saves the manufacturer and consumer a bit of money to use cheap pedals and lower quality seats and not include certain comfort items. Without looking at the Eleglide site, I'd wager The Wiltshire Man's ebike cost a touch more since it came with racks, mudguards. Still, seems you have pretty stout ebike for traveling on tarmac and packed trails. I look forward to see how it handles with your trailer. Another fun video!
Very cool 😎 looks rapid 🚀 watching in my Vango banshee up on Kinder Scout 😂⛺️. E-bikes look great. Looking forward to a bike camp soon 👍. Keep up the great work mate
I cant see anything i would change on that bike except the tires, 7 speed chains are much fatter than 9, last longer.
Those are gravel tires with no side-knobs, MTB tires have larger knobs/spaces and softer/stretchy rubber.
Keep your eyes open for a used set, they are expensive but will change the ride a lot.
Check you local bike shop bin, many people change tires every season. That's a great bike! Fantastic!
👍👍👍
I have been riding ebikes for about the last 15years. Product testing and reviewing them, and more recently for wild camping. Enjoy the bike, it will open up a whole new world to you. :)
I do hope so Eddie
Eddie bud. What's the best one for wild camping in you opinion?
That is a very good question, and could be quite a lengthy one to answer. I'm more than happy to do so, and will piece something together and post it up.
@@eddiejefferies3659 hey Eddie.. sorry matey I had a message typed and must not have pressed send. That would be fantastic. So it would be a good cause as unfortunately I have stage 4 lung cancer that metastasised into tumors in my brain. I have had brain surgery, a lobectomy, chemo 2 rounds of radio and they've just cancelled my immunotherapy as there's a drug in there that's making me have arthritis and poss9bly will make me disabled. It's all so hard. I have two children 2 girls 1 and 3. I'm only 41. I have a great fight and team behind me. I don't have much choice i just keep fighting. This has all been I'm the last 8months. So I used to camp alot and walk and surf etc. I live in South West Coast of Ireland . I used to be all over the mountains.and I was a commercial photographer. My budget isn't there yet as the cost of everything is crazy. I'd say up to a 2k mark would be a crazy max for me. I just haven't done or experienced any if the electronic bikes.. I'd love to buy or build.a.trailor for at least one girl and then poss9bly even just use it to pick them and drop to school or take on little camp8kg adventures.. I'd appreciate any of your time and knowledge or direction. Thanks a lot. X
Hi Dan , That was a good honest review mate , Its more for the city than the countryside .
Yes mate 100%
Had a e-bike for a few years now…..great fun.
A quick tyre change will help with the mud but if you’re gonna use it as a commuter bike you definitely don’t want big chunky tyres on anyway.
Thank you
@@englishwoodsman yeah, get some fat tyres on it for grip, Dan.
Looks good value, considering how much some of them are. Ideal for the trailer tent.
Another top video review look forward to seeing you out on the roads with the bike tent. 👍🏻👍🏻
A hairy man in Spandex on an E bike with all the digital gizmos, no mudflaps, limited to 15mph... welcome to 2023! A good honest review though.
🤣
😂
Be health and safety so you don't come off in the mud and hurt yourself great video
Thank you for your comment
An idea for a vid.. ride ur ebike uphill into the hills as far as the battery lasts... then ride back in the morning with no battery just gravity... in future with better bike/battery u might get further
That looks a lot of fun. 😁😁
Good honest vid as always ,but as you say no good in soft ground so I dont think its gonna be much use trying to tow the extra weight that your trailer tent is going to have not to mention all youe overnight kit, best you keep it for work commute during summer months and just stick with the camping.
Thats only my honest opinion, would like to see you with a vid towing trailer tent and kit to see how it fares thoigh.
Keep up the good work Dan your a good honest bloke who loves the outdoors and make a hell of a lot of people happy and give inspitation and motivation to get outdoors😃😃
Where I'm thinking it's hard ground old train tracks
Nice one m8
I just got 1 as well, Cyrusher is the maker basically same as yours level 5 peddle assist, I paid just under 2 grand for it. Glad u got yours for free Dan. Unlike some people it seems 😅😂😊
Cyrusher kommoda I have that one as well in gray
Everyone would love a FREE e bike!!!!
Walmart has an e-bike it's about $800 it's highly recommended it goes about 25 miles an hour maybe 30 I have a heart condition it makes pedaling so easy and I can go far
Thanks yo cycle to work I have a cube hybrid exc 750 love ebike riding through woodland
Thankyou for watching
Looks like a decent bike for the money. I think it's the tyres that are holding you back. A more knobbly tyre would be better in mud, those tyres look like they're meant for gravel or tarmac.
Nice bike…yes even off road bikes will struggle in mud…have fun stay safe.
I believe you can only go 5 or 6 mph with throttle only and then peddle assist 15.5 mph in uk. With 250watt motor. It’s not a class 1 if it’s dose more than this I don’t think. Definitely a fun machine , enjoy 😊
Nice EWM congrats on 60k well done amazing 👍
Dude go into your settings you can unlock the speed and open up so much more
E-Bikes open a world of mobility to older folks (MYSELF) who still maintain the sense of balance to use them. I wish this company had 'gifted' you a wider tired version since you do more trail work than this bike was designed to handle.
As along time mountain/gravel bike rider, I really don’t get e-bikes unless you have health/age issues that prevent using manual bikes safely (aka 2-wheeled mobility device). That being said, my 70+ yo mother has an e-tricycle. She has a bad heart, knees, back, etc… so it allows her to get out and ride a bit and get some low-impact exercise with an assist to get her back home when she bonks.
Excellent video Dan! 👍👍
Thank you Mick
Continuing on from your power lag comment, you can eliminate that by pulling away using the throttle.
You will also notice an over run of power when you stop pedaling, this you learn to use to your advantage when travelling through mud. The throttle isn't fitted from new to get through the UK Pedelec law. By memory, the throttle should cut out at 4.7mph for the bike to be legal. I could go on all day discussing ebikes. 😊
Your the man I will trun to for advice mate
@englishwoodsman I shall write alot more at some point, but at the competitively priced priced point of this bike, you can't go wrong. Even the price of the spare battery makes the bike more practical than it already is. I might have to investigate reviewing one of these myself. Some component parts are obviously budget, but that can sometimes be a good thing, as it can make them more dependable and easier to replace. I'm quite excited for you with this one. :)
Good looking bike there!
It's a good bike from road cycling
Look forward to the bike and trailer camp, It'll be interesting! Stay safe Dan atvb 👍🦊
Me to mate will be very soon
could you not swap the tyers out for fatter ones to make it easier in the mud ??
Looks a great bike. Spike over ha too as he's one lung and COPD. I've not got an ebike, just my road bike and a fat bike but planning getting a trailer for bike camping.🚲🏕
Those tires are for gravel/ hardpack, some new beefier tires would make it better for MTB
Thanks for this video - very interesting subject. If you are going to this bike regularly then you should buy some ‘ass saver’ mud guards - they are fairly cheap compared to fully fitted ones
I'm looking forward to just jumping on it and go camp somewhere, bit of freedom to go further than usual
Yep that's my plan leave my car at home
@@englishwoodsman that should b great for your trailer as well Dan, need to get 1 as good as yours 👍
thankyou for vid enjoed it 🙂👍
Thankyou for watching
I think if the Government were serious about ebikes, they would change the law. You should be able top have a 500 watt motor but restricted, so that it could give greater assist on hills, but restricted speed. I used to ride motorbikes. I don't want the speed of a motorbike. But I want a pedal assist bicycle that gives me pedal assist up steep hills but doesn't require me to get insurance. thank you for the vid Sir. Informative. Great job.
Thinking of getting one of these. I live in Cumbria...how do you think this bike would cope in the rain, a proper long downpour? Always enjoy your videos.
I jet wash my bake if it gets muddy and its still working great
Great. Thanks 😀
I recommend change to this seat. 37$ u.s..
Cloud-9 Comfort Web Spring Saddle, 11" x 7.5
Yes Sir e-bikes are awesome. Mines 750 w travels 40-60 miles can reach speedsto 40 mph. Im an oldman 62 😊 enjoy the ride 😊 hope i didnt postthis twice
Hello, I'm looking for a electric bike for my delivery job in the Netherlands. If you could suggest me an overall better range and reasonably priced bike, Thanks
Could you do a review on the mil-tec bivvy bag for waterproofness and breathability?????? Because it seems like a tough bag at a good price
Hi Dan, same problems as all others, fine off road but you have to use pedal assist only on UK roads, throttle only is illegal on UK roads, it would be classed as a moped. Sounds like yours is well legal 👍
I can just remove it mate
@@englishwoodsmandon't think you need to sounds legal to me mate 👍
@Gj some websites say we can use them then others say no ..
@@englishwoodsman yours deffo legal mate 👍
It will do the job but you dont get much for 700 quid in the electric bike market i would maybe look to get wider off road orientated tyres mate
The Hairy Solo Biker Dan looks great fun 17:34
Is this for a give away your to good to us 😆 😊 will watch now 😊
Not this one mate BUT HOPEFULLY SOME MIGHT BE COMING
E-bikes are awesome i have fat tire bike. Class 3. Is it true you cant have class 3 bike? I have 7 gears 750w
Thank you for watching
Because it was FREE & it's great fun...!!!???🙄😄🤔🤣😂👍👊
Did you film that video in Judy woods?
Hello, I am an international student in England. I am thinking of buying this bike. I have added very hard money. Tell me the truth, is this bike good or not?
I am no expert, but I think a 250 watt motor won't cut it offroad. I think 500 watt minimum is what you need. But they aren't legal in the UK (I don't believe). Which is crazy. Just restrict the speed and give us more power for climbing! Those of us that want to ride bikes just need the power assist. If the Government allowed that, more people would buy ebikes.
Av not bothered putting on the throttle tbh m8
I got it to go backpacking, but I use it to get to work 😂😂😅 mostly so far
Bike packing I meant 😊
That's my plan use it for work
Nice.
Now load it up with panniers and get out in yer bivvy!
All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
Just put some bigger tyres on makes a big difference in grip
We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!
Had feeling youre not using the gears properly, when you come to muddy stretches or hills change to an easier gear to keep pedalling so that engine doesnt cut out
I think you have throttle rules in uk bro fyi
Upto 15mph
@@englishwoodsman wrong.
Have to register as a motorbike if it has a throttle. And that sucks more taxes for the lizards
Judy Woods??
Yep you local
@@englishwoodsman yes mate 👍🏻
That looks like an old mine railway line. They're brilliant. When they come to a reasonable price I might think about it. (Under £400).

Have a look on UA-cam or Google you will see that it's an amazing bike for camping and alot of power and mileage with it . Good video though 👍👍

Not like you Dan to sell yourself out to these companies. Disapointed really. You are one that i respected for not doing it so much. Other than that keep up the good work mate.
There absolutely nothing way I would pay that sort of a money for a battery pedal power for me.
Just change to full offroad, you only have half and half
You need fenders so your back side dont get dirty😂 and rack
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
I went with a friend to get some parts he said that's what you need he almost fell over $2,000 usd Hee!=8)
You’ve sold your soul ….
250 w only thats all? Mines 750w climbs hills like a mt goat😅
Wow 750w
You’ve made your bike illegal by adding the throttle.
electroheads.com/blogs/news/electric-bikes-legal-uk-law
@@englishwoodsman Ebike throttles
You can only have a throttle on a bike bought in 2016 or later if it assists the rider without pedalling at a maximum of 6km/h (3.7 mph). These "twist and go" throttles are designed to help people who have difficulty starting due to injury or disability. The throttle must cut off at 6 km/h if the user isn't pedalling - otherwise the bike isn't covered by the EAPC legislation.
@@bigyin.7710 I can just remove it
@@englishwoodsman you'll be ok with it off road and the chances of being stopped on the road are slim. I've been overtaken doing 30mph in the car by e bikes with huge hub motors!!
That attitude is not what we expect from Dan.
If we watched a video of him ragging a mx bike around the woods I’m sure all hell would break loose. This is no different.
And Dan. Don’t quote me some other UA-camrs interpretation of the law. It’s clear and well defined here. On the official uk government webpage, what is and isn’t legal.
And looking at the manufacturers website it says that thatbits a 400w motor. That’s illegal in the uk. The motor cannot be more than 250w. So you’ll need to check what it’s marked on the motor to see if just removing the throttle makes it comply.

dont do it dan please
Do what
Stick to camping m8
It's nice to have a small mix of videos mate keep it interesting.
I get it some people might not like this but others do
I met this guy who actually can make the E bike… full throttle, unrestricted… I’m getting him my new mountain bike to convert… it’s 100 times cheaper then buying the overpriced rubbish… hard times man…
Great vid 🙌
