I have often described Meshuggah to the uninitiated as a band that can make a "hook" (which is generally a catchy melody) entirely out of a rhythm. So many of their songs first stick in my head just based on the rhythms they construct. They are far and away the greatest rhythmic architects in the history of metal.

I'm wondering how this was remastered. It sounds really good, but you probably didn't have the individual tracks and had to reside to multiband compression, equalizing etc the track as it is. Really impressive.
Wow this remaster sounds even more clean than the original mix. I love it. But whether it's back then or right now this records just crushes everything. My favorite album. And IMHO their best album by a mile. And that's not to say all Meshuggah doesn't slap. Thank you. Ramble over.

This has to be the heaviest guitar tone ever recorded. My god. It is absolutely monstrous.
Spasm (remastered), Pitch Black, and Phantoms (breakdown) are waaaaaay heavier guitar-wise.
ua-cam.com/video/FgVyePcK68A/v-deo.html
Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis is heavier.
The heaviness comes mainly from the bass guitar.
There was no breakdown heavier than this one in 1997, that part came and smacked the shit out of everything else.
Smacked the shit outta me the first time I heard it 2016.
It's amazing how music stays so relevant throughout history.
Pantera - Domination is the only breakdown that can compete and I won't argue with anyone who says it is better, but I still prefer this one
