A geographical extreme that's tricky to get to PLUS my favourite beach. All in one glorious weekend!

- With weather like this, there was only one place for our weekend - the coast! But we pushed it as far west as is possible on the British mainland. Join us on a beautiful February weekend as we visit the most westerly mainland point, take in the views across to the islands, find a rubbish overnight parking spot and do something we rarely do in February in Scotland :D Enjoy the video...
Filmed on weekend of 25/26 February 2023.

Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

What a great episode! Stunning highland scenery, glorious costal views, stags in silhouette..! Even your choice of music was spot on. Thanks for sharing it!
Hi Steve I’ve got to say that’s one if not the best. Video you have done
Thanks so much mate!
Steve and alicia that was magic Beautifuly produced
Thanks so much from us both!
Thanks for sharing what gye wonderful views.
Just fabulous.
Thanks Peter!
Thanks Steve Best yet
Cheers Dave :)
You missed going to Sanna beach, turn north before the lighthouse. Huge area of golden sands and the best views of Eigg and Rum.
the dalwhinnie distillery always reminds me of the quintessential Scottish distillery the perfect setting and the nice whitewashed walls
So true - same!
that was cool. I'm housebound so I can't get out so I love your vids.
Thanks so much for coming along :)
That was fabulous, it was great to share this adventure with you. Those beaches, the sunshine and in February-no midgies!
Oh sunny winter days are always my favourite mate :)
It's easy to forget how amazing Scotland looks when you live in its cities. Excellent video!
You can’t beat Scotland for fabulous scenery……….but only if you have a perfect weather window. Such a gorgeous video. 👌👏👏👍😎
Another wonderful video, Steve alicja.thanks for all your efforts, such wonderful scenery, hope you go back and enjoy the lighthouse
Cheers John from us both! We were knackered after this weekend :D
Went there once by car middle of May absolutely boiling (for Scotland) 25c. Slept in the car and went swimming, it’s a magical place. Great video.
Sounds wonderful!
Beautiful Stags. Looked a great trip.
I remember scrambling for the camera and hoping it still had some battery :D
Good video, lovely views wherever you look, liked the picture of the Lighthouse,
Thanks Christine! Hard to take a bad photo of that scenery :)
I really do enjoy the video s ,it takes me away from houses everywhere,!!!!!!
Echo's the comments below. Lighthouse, very cool. Hope you folks can get back there to enjoy camping near the beach and other amenities. Glad the kayak got out on the water. How about buying one of those little homes along the way, setup a small coffee and cake stand for the off season, eh?
It would be a perfect life!
We'll be up in Ardnamurchan next weekend, looking forward to it, beautiful place. (And the road's really not that scary Steve ya big wuss).
Self proclaimed wuss!
Brilliant.Your best ever, beautiful scenery. When we visited in summer Lighthouse was open and I think they sounded the fog horn we drove from Fintry a round trip of 140 miles. Now view it from the Calmac.
Cheers Alan! Appreciated mate!
Thanks Steve. That was absolutely brilliant.
Thanks Cliff!
Beautiful scenery, challenging roads and even more challenging names Lol. Best beaches check out Wilderness, George ,South Africa where I live😀 Thanks Steve i love travelling with you guys.
Thanks Michael!
Driving from Bedford to Lossiemouth two weeks on Monday 😬 Look forward to some similar scenary.
And similar weather I hope!
Another great video Steve! My favourite beach is the one at 3.20 ☺️
One of my first trips after I converted my van was to Skye, Ardnamurchan and Mull and I spent a night in the wee car park above that beach, it was very windy so I got on the move early and went to the lighthouse before taking the ferry from Kilchoan to Tobermory.
Sounds wonderful!
Thanks for the video. Many happy memories from my youth 50 years ago. I knoocked about this area drive out from Glasgow. All the roads not changed. Passing places, although I don't remember traffic lights. I never venture to the extreme west point. I knew it would be the white sands of Mora. There is train station there, Driven the road to Mallaig many times back when it was most single track with passing places.
An easy guess that beach eh!? :)
One of your best yet Steve . Incredible photography in a beautiful part of the country. Well done both of you once again.
Wow thanks so much!
Love this video as well as your others. Last time I was in Scotland was 1970. Did a week long driving trip from the US airbase I was stationed at in Suffolk . I’ve been following your adventures in my old Bartholomew Britain road atlas 1970 edition. I’m longing for a return. You’ve inspired me Steve!
Great video Steve. Visited one of my favourite spots in Scotland, Arisaig and the silver sands of Morar. Camusdarach Beach near Morar is where they filmed the beach scenes for the film Local Hero. There is a campsite next to the beach which is one of the best in the whole area. Ardnamurchan is one of the least populated parts of the UK and famous for its wildlife. Just beware of the midge in Summer 😉
Cheers Alan! Oh we sure went at the right time eh? :) Lots of reasons to return there soon :)
My sunday morning treat at 6am here in Mt Maungangui NZ watching Steve and his girlfiend and there travels every week. I will never be able to go to theses places myself and really appreciate your travels in the place of my ancestors. Thank you, don't stop these wonderful vids.
Thanks so much Patricia!
Fab scenery. If you had turned left off the Ardnamurchan road and headed for Sanna sands you could have parked slightly up the hill from the beach and had a superb view over Rum and Eigg. The Sanna beach is nearly a mile of white sand and far less popular as not easy to get to. Well worth it if you come back.
The white gateposts on the road up to the light house are a nightmare in a mobile home sized van. On the way out we got nearly stuck, which then meant the lights changed to allow people towards us. Chaos and bad language from reversing car drivers. If you are in a big van, park and walk!
A great excuse to go back sometime :)
I never realised Scotland had so many beautiful beaches and the little village of Arisaig was absolutely stunning.
Another great video Steve..i remember staying at a youth hostel with my school rugby team at loch Morar in 1982. They were filming Local Hero on a white sandy beach there and we managed to walk through the film set...was a great weekend but was a bit tempered as the Falklands war had just kicked off and my brother was on his way with 3 Para...keep up the good work you two 👍
Oh scary times, but what a time to be visiting the area! I remember similar feelings when my brother headed off to the Gulf War
Great video as always. Thank you !
Thanks Elaine!
Hi Steve, great video as always. I love watching your videos with my daughter. Any chance you will be coming to NYC for tartan week in April? There is a huge Scottish parade on April 15th. Would be great for your channel.
Oh that would be a dream! I wish we could afford to come!
It looks nice and sunny day and the lighthouse is very beautiful and the rocks and the sea and the beach and you do the most beautiful video for people to watch thanks
Thanks so much Elaine!
10/10 for steely determination. Monarch of the Glen captured by beautiful footage ❤
Oh I was scrambling for the camera and hoping there was some battery left!
Hi Steve, I am amazed that you didn't find the wheel cover, as you bounced back down that narrow road.
Very white, sandy , calm beaches for sure.
Haha believe me we were looking :D
Ardnamurchan - the drive along via Fort William is very torturous, and the road via the Corran Ferry is very narrow, and runs through some ancient oak forest with incredibly wind sculptured ancient trees (tiny, unlike the majestic great oaks in the less wind swept areas).
It's well worth the climb up the lighthouse as the views are incredible.
If you took the road along the southern side of the peninsula you would pass through a couple of small "villages", one of which had a cafe/tea room.
Oh good info for next time, thanks Rob!
Went that way when we ran a Triumph motorcycle event 'West to East via the middle' Ardnamurchan point to Lowestoft though the square at Meriden, was an interesting ride
Ooh Ardnamurchan. We spent two weeks in a crofters cott a few years ago. Stunning sunsets, deer In the garden, rocky walks, no electricity, whale watching. Beautiful white beaches, blue seas. Strong walking boots needed every day, midges (hmmm) What more could one wish for. Thanks Steve.
Sounds wonderful!!! And even the midges had a great fortnight with you :)
Great trip and thanks for the video! We were already making plans to go there and return via Mull.
Sounds like a great wee route!
Gorgeous video outstanding scenery, Thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Patricia!
That was one of the best videos you've made and that's saying something. I feel so homesick when I see Scotland at her best. 😁👍
Thanks so much mate! :)
@@steve-marsh you were near my grandfather's birthplace, Fuinary on the Morvern peninsula.
Great video. We will be visiting that area in May. Being a Torontonian, I LOVED your toque!! Quite unexpected.
Haha cheers! Bought that many years ago in a Value Village in St.John's :D Wishing you similar weather in May!
This was fantastic Steve. Love the touque from Canada. Canada loves you!!! The photography is absolutely amazing. Another winner.
Oh Canada I miss you!
My word Steve. Those views were out of this world and well worth the dodgy drive. Maybe you should have used the kayak from the lighthouse to avoid that walk to the most westerly point? Your paddle later on was awesome though. BTW, as soon as you said you were going to one of your favourite beaches I said to my wife "it will be the Silver Sands of Morar". Scotland never ceases to amaze me and likewise Steve - you've done it again 👍
Haha you know the best places :) Incredible up there eh? Never disappoints!
One of your best videos so far ! One I will bookmark for all eternity.
Hey thanks so much!
Even id think twice about going to that lighthouse , and I’m already in Fort William 😅 pity Morar gets so busy in the summer , very hard to get parked anywhere, another great video Steve
Aye, a nice weekend in February is definitely the time to go!
Beautiful, some of these places we passed through in our own travels around Scotland when we still lived in Aberdeen. You pair live the life we wanted and dreamed, only hubby had a full-time job to go to and we didn't have UA-cam quite back then to help us along! And now we have no possibility anymore since hubby has been stricken with progressive MS and become paralyzed so now we live the Scottish roadtrip life vicariously from the US via your vlog. Thank you 💞🏴💞
Wishing you both well, thanks for coming on these adventures with us!
Fantastic video, old mate! Love 🏴🏴🏴❤
Beautiful and your video couldn’t have come at a better time, just getting excited as I will be up that area in a few days, travelling on CalMacs finest.
Wishing you similar weather!
Wow wow wow so beautiful and the sunset ❤, thanks guys for "taking" me on this trip!!
Thanks Steve enjoyed that. I plan to be there in May. I didn't have time last year but catching the Corran Ferry and the ride to Salen was one of the best of that trip apart from going to Plockton and stopping at the The Croft Cafe
Oh I fancy giving the ferry a go!
@@steve-marsh Only a short trip try the Glenelg Skye Ferry last manually operated steel turntable ferry
Hi Steve great video. When you visit Northern Ireland again if you want to see wonderful beaches I recommed going to the North Coast of Northern Ireland Portrush, Portstewart, castlerock downhill right up to the mouth of Lough Foyle. Its wonderful would love to see a video of it because it is such a wonderful natural beauty plus there a huge hill called gortmore it gives an amazing view of county londonderry, Lough Foyle and the hills of county Donegal its amazing you wont be disapointed. I can't get over how awesome Scotland is.
Really can't wait to get back over that way!
Took that road to Malaig in October and it was dreary rainy weather - yours was so much better! Thanks for sharing!
The weather makes all the difference eh!
Charming and gorgeous! Thank you!
This must be one of your most challenging videos yet Steve, I remember the loch side narrow roads used to terrify me, you wouldn’t catch me in the driving seat, even though my late husband and I were taught to drive by the Nottinghamshire Constabulary Police driving Instructor….I didn’t have a death wish, anyway you both made it safely to the rather impressive Ardnamurchan Lighthouse with its stunning views, but I’ve never seen such unforgiving terrain that you ventured over, you really are intrepid travellers, the view back to the Lighthouse and those Magnificent Majestic Stags made it all worth while for me, I can’t think of anything more challenging or scary than Kayaking in the sea 🌊 thank you 🙏 both for sharing another extreme challenge with us 🤗
We were so knackered after this weekend! But worth it for those beautiful views :)
@@steve-marsh you were not the only ones that were knackered, so was I, can you arrange to make one more suited to an elderly lady past her sell by date, ignore that it’s impossible, a sloth 🦥 as got more go than I have 🥴
After the knee operation of my wife in January, we will not be taking the risks you two took walking. But we were there with you in our favorite landscape . And the kajak trip was stunning. Thank you👍
Thanks and wishing your wife well! :)
I remember when we went to Ardnamurchan, it was a typical scottish summer day, but we went across from Tobermory and took the ferry to Ardnamurchan, it started to pelt it down on this small boat, only could take 2 cars, and we were bouncing on the boat. Heading towards the lighthouse the light was fading and we needed to go back to our cottage just outside Fort William, so yeah, you had a better day for it XD Brilliant to see it again and makes me want to go back sometime soon.
Haha the weather sure makes a difference (although yours was more memorable!)
I enjoyed this immensely! Thank you both for a lovely time...I almost feel as if you're my dear friends! Your content continues to get better and better. The scenery you showed us is absolutely stunning. Safe travels and again, thank you for such a fabulous trip! If you ever come to Tennessee I'd love to show it to you. Until next time.
Thanks so much!
What can I say...blown away by a part of Scotland neither of us have been to, we could have watched your travels all day in that part of the best country in the world. Thank you both from Ela and myself ...another great video, dzekuje...😊
Cheers guys! We have a lot more exploring to do over on that coastline so hopefully will be back soon :)
Cracking Video --you two must be super fit !
Wow, beautiful scenery. Hope you are both well, take care and hope you have a great weekend
Incredible part of the world eh Peter!
Stunning scenery and the tranquility as a bonus is that perfection?
Fantastic scenery and a great video Steve. Thank you
Thanks Mark :)
Stunning scenery ..thanks for sharing...
Great video Steve and Alicia (s), I've been to Arisaig and Mallaig many a time since 1961....great times. I didn't think you'd be up there at this time of year, it was a nice surprise.
A true last-minute dash for the weather, so glad we went :)
@@steve-marsh So am I...all the best Steve!
That was quite the hike but, oh my gosh, so worth it for the views. My knees would not permit me to do a hike like that anymore so I really appreciate tagging along with you virtually. And also appreciate the Hockey Canada hat! Have a great week, guys.
Thanks for coming along with us :)
Thank you for this video, spent a lot of time in that part of Scotland before life and family got in the way, looking forward to revisiting when I retire soon.
Wonderful part of the world eh!
What a moment seeing those stags amidst unspoiled scenery!
Always makes my Saturday with Steve’s videos!
Cheers Casey! :)
This is the sort of thing you do best, Steve!
And Local Hero country at the end! (One of my all time favourite films.)
Thanks so much mate!
Beautiful country over there. Awesome video!
Cheers Scott!
Thanks very much Steve. I've cycled the road along the Ardnamurchan peninsula, though we didn't have time to go to the lighthouse as we had to catch a ferry from Kilchoan. I'd recommend that if you go back so you can see the sights of Mull on the same trip. Geographically Ardnamurchan is the most westerly point of Great Britain, GB being the largest island in the British Isles ( so you don't have to use the word 'mainland'.)
Ahhh thank you! :)
I was there the start of may last year but I never went as far west as you as it wasn’t obvious where the furthest West Point was . Well done the 2 of you . I parked in a picnic spot and it must have been the darkest place in Scotland.
Watching the stars is just amazing at night! Thanks Kevin!
Another brilliant video Steve. Really enjoyed it, as always.
Thanks so much :)
Another fab video Steve and Alicja, we totally enjoyed it. Such stunning scenery and those beaches are amazing. You and Alicja do a great job.
Thanks so much guys!
Stunning beaches and scenery, but I don't think I saw a single tree anywhere! Cheers.
Wow. You were so lucky to see those stags. I’ve travelled many a mile across the Highlands and never seen one. Beautiful video.
So true! I was scrambling to get the camera rolling :D
Smashing. Thank you both.
Wow, what a brilliant video with beautiful scenery, a walk and a paddle in the kayak. Thanks so much Steve for showing the Scottish countryside in all its glory
It was an absolute pleasure!
Absolutely stunning country we live in and thanks to you, folk like myself who cannot get out and about can get to see and enjoy it too. Great video Steve 😄👍
Thanks for coming along mate!
Great content as always! My 4 year old lad is now inspired to visit a lighthouse!!!
Awww that's amazing - he'll be hooked for life like me :)
Really enjoyed this video. The shots of the back-lit stags was stunning.
Fantastic Steve and Alicija 👍🙂 How amazing to go kayaking in such beautiful surroundings. Interesting to know re most westerly point as well, got me thinking about going to the north, south and east points as well at some point 👍 Scotland is such a beautiful country and you are the perfect ambassador showing your country to the world 🙂
Oh got similar thoughts now :)
@@steve-marsh Got to be done Steve, probably get a lot of views as well as people like to search out such places. I've been to Lizard Point and Lowestoft, so just 2 to go for me 👍🙂 Could also do places just in Scotland rather than travelling down south of the border
Absolutely beautiful! We’ve come up to those beaches by train from East Anglia - very easy and a wonderful trip. We stayed in hotels in Morar and Glenfinnan, and walked everywhere or used trains and ferry. We will never forget the sunsets. Your images are truly stunning. Thank you so much.
A pleasure to take you to some very familiar places!
Even as crowded as the big cities are in the UK, Steve always manages to show the beauty of the countryside while finding the places less travelled and with fewer people. Well done sir to you and your graceful companion - stay safe and healthy. ~~ Beannaich Dia na h-Albannaich anns a ’Ghàidhlig! ~~ Seas gu cinnteach.
I live in morar 🙋♂️😁
16:34 I’d have to agree with you…definitely a top three view! Didn’t you two just catch a perfect winter weather weekend! Thanks for sharing so many outstanding experiences you managed to squeeze into this short trip. Cheers and ATB!
Thanks Erin! We're always chasing the weather :)
you two are so brave, such beautiful sceneries!! and the deers! and Jupiter and Venus!! thank you! I'm so happy and proud to be one of your supporters on Patreon. You bring me so much joy with your travels in Scotland!! thank you!
Thanks so much Laura! Your support makes all this possible and we are so grateful
That was absolutely stunning with the isles off in the distance. Thanks for all your “work” on this kayak scene. Lol. Thanks again for a wonderful Saturday morning across the pond. Summer can’t get here fast enough
Cheers Robert! :)
Love watching you two travelling
Thanks! We'll be together for a video soon :)
Wow! That scenery blew me away! I actually guessed what your favourite beach was (OK, I said Arisaig but close enough!). As if I couldn't love the West Coast more and you drop a video like this, makes me wanna get in the car and just go!
I parked up at the Welcome To The Highlands sign at the start of the video, did some Munro Bagging, stunning sceneries if you haven't done it before.
Thanks again to you both! :)
Oh cheers for the tip - hoping to do some more Munros this year, get the fitness up a bit!
@@steve-marsh my pleasure! It's not too hard and the inclines aren't too bad but as long as the weather stays nice and clear, view-wise you'll see some landmarks that you wouldn't expect to see. :)
Amazing video Steve giving us some of the best scenery in Scotland
It really is a stunning place eh!
A masterclass on how to compose and deliver a travel video of the highest quality- Steve never disappoints - this is in a league of it's own for the sheer enjoyment of the journey and the vistas revealed. Thank you for sharing this - and for selling Scotland to the world !
Hey thanks so much John!!!
Wow, what amazing scenery.
Maybe one of my favorite videos❤. Scotland will be my home in my next life. The driving was smooth and mesmerizing. I’m a rock and shell hound so this would be so fun! I’m always looking for YOOPERLITE. The scenery is stunningly beautiful and so serene. Thank you!
Thanks so much Grace! Wonderful part of the world :)
Breath taking!
Beautiful Scotland, doesn’t get better than that. ❤
The weather sure helped on this weekend :)
It does I live in Scotland 🏴
Absolutely outstanding..stunning vistas ..
What an amazing place. Thanks for sharing it with us.
You're so welcome :)
As I’m recovering from having a replacement right knee, your Ardnamurchan video was just what I needed! We went to the lighthouse last May and the coffee and cake were excellent. If you listen to the full shipping forecast at 05:25 on Radio 4, Ardnamurchan Point always gets a mention.
Ardnamurchan is a wonderful place. There’s a fabulous new distillery and the ferry from Kilchoan takes you right into Tobermory harbour.
Anyone who drives into Ardnamurchan needs to be very alert. In between crazy locals and tourists who can’t use passing places properly, it can be nerve wracking. Allow more theme than you think you need to get there.
Now if you really want o drive somewhere beautiful and scary, try Drimnin in Morvern. Tobermory is a doddle in comparison!
Great stuff as always!
I was also there last June for the summer solstice. I was also most surprised how good the coffee was. As I sat outside and enjoyed the scenery
Good luck with your knee replacement. Keep doing your physio exercises. I had my left knee replaced a few years ago. So worth it!
@@rosemarymee Working hard at the physio!
Oh you're giving us some ideas and motivation to return :)
Great video, Steve! What camera do you use for your videos and your stills? The quality is amazing! Thank you for your videos. They truly inspire this Texan to one day travel to Scotland and the UK!
Thanks so much Brad! Just a GoPro and stills are straight out the phone!
Awesome! Have a great week and can’t wait to see what your next adventure will be!
Awesome video and the scenery was beautiful. The deer standing on the hill leaving the lighthouse were beautiful and their racks were huge.
