I am a little older than Becky and Maggie, slightly younger than Matt, but I grew up in Rhode Island. We had a pretty progressive sex ed program, had a free clinic in our school (aside from the regular nurse), and one thing that stuck out in my mind is that our health teacher brought in a friend to speak to us. That friend was not only openly gay, but he was diagnosed with HIV, it may have been AIDS at that point, but he was very candid with what his life was like living with it. This was back in the early 2000s, so I can only hope we've continued to lead the way with a little more progressive discussions with our high school students. I also think it's so wild how different sex ed is depending on where you live and I understand why that is, but I do wish it was a little more of a national standard across the board to be honest with teenagers about the technical health aspects.

In NYC they told me in 8th grade. The teacher introduced us to OPTIONS, not just abstinence. He made it clear to ALWAYS use condoms and practice abstinence if youre ever unsure. In college I also opted to take sex Ed which DID cover every kind of sex, in including gay.. we also learned in depth about birth and we were taught about sexual orientation as it relates to a spectrum. I feel like that really made it easy to enter into adulthood with the correct tools.

For the Honeymoon Quandary - the husband needs to smooth this over with his mom. His mom shouldn't have tried to pressure wifey when he already said no - and he can lead with that. "Mom, I am upset that you tried to go behind my back to convince my wife to allow you to stay with us on our honeymoon. That was inappropriate. I told you no, and my wife told you no, but you kept asking her questions and put my wife in an awkward position. She regrets how she handled it and apologizes for the language she used, but we still want our privacy as a newly married couple on our honeymoon. This is our time together to celebrate this new stage in our lives, it is *not* a family vacation. We would be happy to have dinner with you one night, but if this is pushed again, that will be off the table."

Okay so my mind was BLOWN by the AITA story! Like no ma'am, they probably just spent plenty of time with you in preparation for the wedding/during the wedding and it is so intrusive to invite yourself on your son's honeymoon. The DIL went too far for sure, but also don't ask if you're not gonna like the answer 🤷‍♀️ it's totally okay for it to be about sex AND about privacy in general. We all know what a honeymoon is for 😂 come on now.

Hell I know of a lot of fellow A's that are harassed by the LGBTQ because they don't think we should even be included. Unless they already have someone A on staff it probably won't get included. There's more of us around than it seems, though, so you definitely aren't alone! There's a great comic called Oh Joy Sex Toy that does a great job at representing everybody.

My grandparents had separate beds until I was about 5 years old. So throughout my mom and her siblings' entire childhood their parents had separate beds. Them fools had seven kids. Those separate beds didn't do shit. And I have one couple friends now who have separate bedrooms. At first I thought it was weird but the longer I am with my bf the more genius I think it is. I love sleeping in the bed with him but somedays separate beds would be nice.

What a great topic to bring up.
As I was growing up in California what scared me about drugs was seeing Beetle Juice and the charred man that passed away because of smoking. I thought that's what happened to people who smoke when I saw beetle juice.
I was 5 years old when I watched Beetle Juice, and of course, my school would teach us "Say no to drugs" This is elementary. There was one time when my friend invited me to a baby shower for her mother's friend and all the young girls went to a car and I thought, "Why are we going to a car?"
I see my friend lighting a cigarette and I get scared and call my dad to come to pick up! Drugs for me were a huge NO-NO and still are.
Now for middle school and high school, I knew my body was changing, and plus I had 1 older brother and three older sisters they all had their moments when they were tough by the school but I was so confused about how babies were made.
Sadly the kids near where I lived had magazines of porn and they would show all the kids laughing and smiling with their friends. I would be grossed out and scared I was 6 damn it!
I didn't know what I was looking at
My mom never spoke about this because she was never touched either by my grandmother. yea, she had five children but she was Mexican Catholic (Yes I have to say Mexican Catholic because in my mom's view "Mexicans and Catholics don't talk about this nastiness")and just knew that sex and the human body are hush-hush.
The only one who can see your body is a doctor when giving birth, your husband-wife, and nobody else. That was my mom's teaching.
Of course, high school health touches us, students. My mom still doesn't like talking about this subject. she says it discusses her.

I took a health class as a Gen Ed in college. During the sex ed portion of the course, we discussed it for about 3 weeks worth of classes, I believe. For 2 days out of the course, we had people come in and speak to the class. The first week we had people come in from Planned Parenthood. The second week we had people come in from a Crisis Pregnancy center (don't get me started on the terrible and misleading practices of these centers). They forced us to pass around a tiny rubber fetus that was supposedly what a fetus looks like at 3ish months or something of that sort. They then passed out individual fetuses to take home with us. It was very strange to see other adults discard their fetuses as you walked up the stairs to the next floor. Anyway, I kept mine, because it was freaking weird. I lived with my parents at the time because I went to community college. My brother is a couple years younger than me. I hid the fetus in the pocket of the pair of pants my brother planned to wear to school the next day. As he got ready in the next room the next morning, I could hear him giggling and giggling, because "what the hell". That night, I went to feed my goldfish before bed. I opened the fish food, and the fetus was inside. Later that week, I hid the fetus again somewhere in my brother's room. This went on throughout college. He would visit me or I would visit him, and whenever we went to each other's homes we would hide the fetus somewhere in the house. I even hid it in his apartment when he moved to California and I visited him over a long weekend. This ended somewhat abruptly once he moved back home from Cali about a year later. We would still visit each other, but I think we sort of forgot about the funny and strange tradition until it eventually fizzled out. But for at least 7 years, that fetus went on a hell of an adventure. Probably the most well- traveled fetus to date. That's my favorite sex ed story. I clearly retained a lot of information from the experience.

I took health in high school, MN, 2004-2008. We had an awesome teacher she passed around all types of birth control, we practiced putting on condoms on wooden penises, and we did see pictures of STI’s. They said that “the only 100% safe birth control is abstinence but here’s all these other options.” We also had to watch a childbirth video. My brother is married to a Brazilian. This could very much be a difference in cultures. When they got married in Brazil, they stayed with his family and his brother, sister-in-law, and nephew came over frequently. I was also the only American to come over and attend the wedding. So I hung out with his family a lot. It was very much more a family-oriented visit than simply a vacation. When they went back to Brazil to visit this year, it was very much the same. They had multiple family dinners with extended family, stayed with his parents and all of that (they sent us pictures). He is simply much closer with his family than I am with mine. This seems to be the case with most Latin American families I come across. They are much closer with each other than other demographics of people. Because the couple is going to the husband's home country for their honeymoon, his parents and potentially also other family members are likely ecstatic that he is coming home. They want to see both of them and spend time with them. If they wanted to have a relaxing honeymoon without other family present, they probably should have chosen somewhere else or decided to vacation in an area of Brazil where his family could not easily visit. I certainly understand why they want their honeymoon to be their own time together. It just doesn't seem that outlandish that his family also wants to spend time with him since they likely do not get to see him often in person.

In relation to the AITA, Brazilian parents are INVASIVE. Culturally they are more in their children’s lives than American parents. I should know, I have a Brazilian husband. This tracks that they would want to visit l, especially if they live in Brazil and don’t see their kid a lot. Don’t agree with the in laws, and honestly, you have to put boundaries down, so I’m all for that bride and her reaction lol.

Also if sex was ever mentioned around my parents we would get spanked.
