Here’s a one-shot, one-take performance of the song “How Not To Drown” by the synth-pop band, CHVRCHES. Nothing fancy production wise, just my iPhone and some hard groovin’ with the song.
I played through Death Stranding for the second time recently. This time, I paid extra attention to the music that were released for the game - not just what plays as you explore the world. This is where I discovered CHVRCHES and their phenomenal title track “Death Stranding”. I don’t know how I missed it on my first play-through, but it spoke to me and connected me more deeply with the game.
From there I sought out their music and became an instant fan. Their album, Screen Violence, is my favorite so far, with my favorite tracks being “Violent Delights" and “How Not To Drown”.
Despite being a synth-pop group with plenty of electronic elements, there’s such a deep groove and pocket to this song - and a beat similar to Rihanna’s “Umbrella”. The fun isn’t just in what’s played, but how it’s played. It’s a song with attitude, and it begs to be played with attitude. Hope you like it.

Kept it simple with drum audio and video this time. Both were captured directly from my iPhone 13 and edited/synched with the music in iMovie, then further edited in DaVinci Resolve 18. No samples or triggers were used.
