Well boys as you can see i found a sweet deal on facebook marketplace and picked up 2 mopeds. I managed to snag a puch maxi e50 and a tomos which im not too familiar with. I cant wait to do a build on these rad bikes!

The frame on a Puch Maxi have a tends to crack at the tank right by the tank lid. So be careful or make a frame amplifier from the seat to the tank if you have to ride on rear wheels
Finally something that tickles my fancy, the carburetor you’re working on a dellorto sha 1412 if it has the manual choke. Originally they would have a bing carburetor some are square and some are round style float bowl. I can’t wait until the next episode.
Tomos and Puch have interchangeable cylinders, ignitions, and some clutches. You should build the tomos.

I remember these when I was very young I thought they were real cool bicycle/motorcycle I was three when I saw my first one in 1980 and have always wanted one. I have a cool little moped I cruise now and another coming in the winter in a few months. I can’t wait I love these things so fun to play with.

Great video, i have a Tomos as well which i fully restored half a year ago. Not sure if that fuel tank is stock though, it should have the same tank style as the Puch. I'd really like to see you guys giving that Tomos a better look in the future cause seeing it like this breaks my heart. Meanwhile that Puch is looking hella fresh, keep up the good work!

Nice Puch! That’s not the stock carb, but a decent carb. The stock throttle cable will work, but you have to shorten the inner cable. Screw all cable adjustments back in, leave carb side end of inner cable and cut the throttle end, treats sells the cable ends you bolt/screw on. You’re probably right about it having a new head and possibly piston. Those pipes are great for low end torque etc. for wheelies and sound good. The long seat will help with wheelies too. That’s super clean and deluxe model, magnesium wheels, seat storage is rare on puchs. The Tomos is good too, those are fake top tanks and the fuel goes in the frame like a puch. Some Tomos are oil injected, so you just run regular gas. I think it’s called a street mate or Targa, I’d have to look it up, but worth more than your average Tomos Sprint step throughs. Anyways you scored on these, can’t wait to see them finished. Imo Puch is the best pedal modes from the 70’s, after that Tomos is the best pedal moped up until 2019 when they closed. Put a 65cc and a bigger carb and a hpi and you gonna fly on that tomos please build it dude you gonna love it
Love these bikes. Definitely rebuild it with a stuffy crank, 70 reed kit is the go to for easy beginner mods, get a 21phbg clone carb for $25 on ebay and the pipe isn’t that great but it’s a start.
Case matching is super easy, get a gila kit or a polini kit, don’t be scared an e50 is the easiest engine ever to work on
Tomos are expensive in our country Croatia. Like 500-700e. The oldest are like 1000 to 2000e.

Some info about the carb: this type of carbs is really common on mopeds in europe. They're an aftermarket part cuz the stock ones were how would i say it... crap... the stock ones were prone to clogging up or not reacting to any of adjustment screws at all. So this is kinda "village tuning". It makes the throttle snappier, the idle is less rough etc. Just fitted a DellOrto SHA14.12 for my Babetta 210 man that thing flies now.
Finally a tomos I would since it’s a targa top tank do high comp top end and big carb and new bottom end
I love these bikes man. I have a 78 Sears free spirit with a mikuni VM20 a tecno estoril and a better clutch 70cc kit better crank, tons of upgrades super fun it goes over 60

In the 90's my Peugeot moped would walk my friend's Puch every time. Uphill and on the flats. His was way easier to start, though.

the carb on the puch belongs to the tomos, thats also why the cable is to long. the puch needs a bing carb with an original air filter that sucks the air out that round hole in your frame
