BOREN - A film about sailing & wooden boats.

- Boren, the boat has an incredible story. From the East coast to the Bahama's and all the way to Alaska, she's seen it all. She sailed through hurricanes, ran into a coral reef, broke the boom and keel and yet still survives in all her artistic beauty. Boren now resides with a crafty sailor in the San Juan islands of the pacific northwest. This is her story. A story about sailing.

That was beautiful! Wooden boats have souls. I love the old asian carvings. Thanks for sharing!⛵⛵⛵
This film just got me I didn't want it to end .Thanks .
Coming from Australia, have visited the San Juan islands... a memory that shall last forever.
I'm so glad I ran across this short story. Beautifully filmed and edited video. The "crafty sailor" Keeps Boren in immaculate condition. Beautiful scenery there in the Northwest. Thank you for posting, this made my afternoon.
What a great coastline.
What a great boat!
SO Beautiful: the boat, the place, the story and the people. Thank you!
Wonderful, absolutely wonderful. Absolutely one of the best. Thank you.
Beautiful boat and excellent video!
I watched this because it made me think of my Granp's 10m Plan Cornu. The film and story are awesome. I'm not that far from getting tears. All my childhood on a boat like that that is coming back.
Great video, and nice boat!
In Norwegian "Børen" may mean two things:
1 A burden, to carry something heavy, have a heave load, either physically or mentally.
2. Sail wind, where we say "motbør" which means wind against you. Or "medbør" which means wind with you. Motbør and medbør, can also be used to describe how life is going.
this guy is definitely a burden to one's sanity with his petty self indulgence.
I love it! Thanks for the breakdown!
Yeah but it's the same thing.
The ship is the burden and the wind carries it. Or rather bears the burden.
What a lovely video, throughout I was reminded of the beautiful Dan Fogelberg song "The Reach" - which of course was written about the Northeast not the Northwest - but never the less, I thoroughly enjoyed this short film!
Excellent, 'beautiful boat
Editing Dept. gets an A+
really cool video - thank you
I once owned Kingscruser #9 an all mahogany 28 ft. sloop, beautiful boat. Sold her in the early 1980’s, but the fond memories still remain. There’s something about the way a wood boat, with a teller moves through the water, makes you feel connected.
Lovely film, great scenery , good boat. Thanks.
Well Done!

Beautiful boat and charming crew. Thank you for sharing, Bevan!
Beautiful boat, and film. We loved Orcas when we cruised down from False Creek Vancouver in our little lapstrake gaff rigged cutter in the 70s. I hope we get back again one day, by ferry or sail.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video. Remind me so much of my childhood sailing with my parentes. My fathers skillful work on his yacht. Years later I still love to explore the Danish waters and surrounding countries ❤️. Warm greetings to your family from Copenhagen. Stig
What beautiful wooden sailboat ⛵️! Mike from Missouri 😀⛵️😘
Awesome luv the video, we into land camping and now the ocean camping, luv the saying u said. Thank you so much to sharing what you luv and really this what we going to do, good winds, keep safe and beautiful adventures to you.
A masterpiece of a boat! The boat itself stands as a living character itself. Every men would dream of venturing with her.
I know this thread is ancient, but since i just saw this recently...
AMAZING production 👏
The videography, music, narrative, editing...just beautiful. Heart-melting beautiful. Thank you.
Wow, great boat, breathtaking landsacpes, fairwinds.
What beautiful ship, and wonderful style of life, congratulations
Thank you! I needed that....
What a wonderful part of the world you live in. Such a beautiful yacht too! Fair winds and greetings from the UK!
Nicely done and I’m from the 60 too wish I was in as great as shape as your boat, thx for sharing
OM off the hook G, Bevan Waite, you’ve created a tribute here that is unfathomably glorious! It spans generations, of family and sailors.
Thanks Keern, glad you liked it!
I watched it again. Breathtaking!
So glade this boat found this man its an amazing boat that needed a owner like him
Explaining sailing and the feeling it gives is not easy but you did it perfectly with a beautiful boat and even beautiful heart. Just whoow, and keep sailing BOREN
What an amazing story. Just wonderful,
Lovely boat, beautifully shot
Really a nice piece of work ... the video and (especially) your beautiful and trusty boat.
That was just beautiful to watch. Well done.
I loved this. thank you.
Well, an artfully told tale of a beautifully designed and crafted vessel. Thanks to all; most inspirational.
What a fantastic and beautiful film... we need this and hopefully many more.
Beautiful boat.
Beautiful first mate.
Beautiful!!!!!
Great setting!
beautiful story!
What an inspiration!! We got a Vindoe 30 from 1968... A beauty herself and waiting for the final restoration, which I do all by myself! Greetings from Europe, bror.
Hollo WaldFee have you seen the UA-cam channel Sailing Magic CARPET? A young couple sailing a Vindoe 30.
Pretty Boren video
Most excellent! Beautiful boat.
Beautiful film about a beautiful boat that is being well taken care of! I can see the same joy in his eyes when he's talking about the boat as I feel more mine, great work from everyone involved in the making of this piece. I'm really surprised at the size of the interior of the boat, head room most of all which wasn't all that common in those days.
What a beautiful life.
My life tomorow...beautiful..
Great film, classic boat! I used to sail up to the San Juan's from the south sound on my bud's 40' Choi Lee, the Hardswell (TYC). Only difference that I can see is he's got a wheel. Being birds of a feather, you've probably seen, or have been rafted to it. Anyway; fair winds and following seas. :)
Refreshing sailing story ..Nice footage .
Very inspiring thank you
Thank you MGM, On and on
That was just amazing. Beautifully made film about an equally beaautiful sailboat. Love it.
1:37 - lsland of fantastic !🤩
BEAUTIFUL....thanks for sharing.
This is amazing.
King Billy pine, I think the timber is no longer available. But shipwrights of Tasmania worship the wood. Great video and story
, I would of never considered a timber yacht, but as I get older???
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A beautiful Yacht! And especially beautiful, is the mindset of a wooden sailing yachtsmen! Thanks for sharing the story of Boren. Stay healthy and fair winds! Greetings from the archipelago of Sweden. 🇸🇪
A very nice video. Love that boat. Have a same type and age. Enjoy ! Greetz from The Netherlands
Glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding video. I couldn't agree more- the PNW is fabulous. I also sail the west coast out of Vancouver, BC. As you mentioned, there are so many beautiful places to sail and drop the hook.

wonderful story, well made, perfect. thx for sharing. new subscriber. greetz from sweden #inthewild
So cool
Bravo!!! That was excellent and inspiring
Wonderful story, captivating story telling. I am thankful you shared the story of Boren and your own personal story. The editing and music are a perfect compliment to this rich and beautiful story. Thank you and best wishes.
very good indeed
P.s Boat is in great condition. Enjoy that 80% maintenance 20% sailing split (if you are lucky). Love me some varnish! Perfect practical finish for the at sea environment, said no one in their right mind ever.
Amazing
Rosario Gracco . Magnifica barca, meravigliosi i luoghi e gran bella famiglia. Complimenti! Se un giorno ti capita di navigare nel mediterraneo avrei piacere di abbracciarvi.
Nice job on the music. I love Trampled by Turtles!
Me too!!
Great stuff, I was hoping to see some sailing though :-) We documented our sail on a wooden boat from Vancouver to Australia.. It's terrifying out there!!!! All the best :-)
@@Blortt5000 Thanks Dan, all is well, i'm missing the boat life tho.... I'll get back soon hopefully. Cheers matey!!
Wonderful footage! I see in the credits that we share the same last name...Greetings from the Chesapeake Bay

Not a lot of waite's out there in the world! Maybe we're distant relatives 🤣
@@mountaingrownmedia8128 even fewer of us are in the sailing world...
I’m from the piglet sound, I’ve been here my whole life. I’m a welder and have welded for many shipyards here in WA, Everett naval, psns, vigor Seattle, nichol brothers boat builders. It’s my dream to save up for a boat and sail the world
Very similar to my West Solent One. Mine is from 1929 but remarkably similar.
Oh, that carving. If only I could share another genius. But not here, apparently.
Nice boat almost looks like a fairlie
Well filmed/edited video. No actual sailing footage because you would be lucky if 1% would show a comfortable onboard environment. Truth is these old designs are lovely sailing on a nice flat sea for a few hours, but crossings and general cruising is a wet, cramped and uncomfortable existence. Much like the next time you take a horse and carriage non stop for 6-7 days, which you didn't, unless self flagellation or extreme nostalgia is what you are into. Keep the romance alive guys! Someone out there will fall for it....
Clinton doesn’t even have a boat. But he reads Sailing magazines and watches others sail. Poor Clinton. Idiot.
@@georgeburns7251 You are right on a few points, I don't currently own a boat and have read the odd sailing magazine and have watched others sail (how about that America's Cup!). However I have done some sailing, 60,000+ offshore sea miles (mainly sailing, cruising not racing) as a skipper. 5 Atlantic Crossings, 2 Pacific, as far north in the Atlantic as Svalbard, the Aleutians in the Pacific and as far south as New Zealand. Lived aboard for 8 of the last 12 years, delivered all types of mono hull yachts, mainly in the 45-65ft range. Happy for you to explain which of my previous comments you think were wrong...
And please do better than an uniformed personal attack....
happy fathers dad, dad
lol woops
In the opening scene, why are you underway but still have your anchor ball day shape in the rigging??
That is a radar reflector, not an anchor ball.
Anchor ball up when sailing?;-) brilliant video guys
Oh, I thought it was a radar reflector?
Which area in canada is this, I Love it?
The only thing is to improve tacking, jib sheet was slackened too fast, so jib started to flitter - it shouldn't
Grace & serenity, beautiful. Congratulations. (Do you mind if I share the video?)
Not at all share away!
That has to be the most beautiful place in the world...... and that's coming from someone who lives in Australia...
Australia an over regulated fly blown shit hole
Nice
beautiful boat. was wondering what language Boren is derived from?
Norwegian I believe - means "sailing wind"
Nice boat!
Why is it called Børen that is a Norwegian or Danish word if it was swedish the ø would be written ö. ???
not quite sure why you are sailing whilst displaying "you're anchored" day shape
Lovely boat, superbly maintained, and you are blessed with beautiful cruising ground. Worth mentioning that the Lion Class was designed and built first in the UK in 1950, though the designer, Arthur Robb, was born in New Zealand. The Cheoy Lee ones are special, like the Laurent Giles Vertues which they also built, because they used teak for the hull. Do you have an engine as an auxiliary or are you truly engineless?
What is amazing its probly built from.timber in north west coast and was shiped to hong kong when they where building wood boats
Difference between motor boating and sailing... is...
When you sail.. you have to submit.. Become a partnership with the world around you!!
There is such peace in the world. That is so much easier to find, when you stop trying to control everything... LET GO
Hey I'm related to that boat
Hahaha
İ have same boat model 1963 in Turkey...
Wow, sorry that's it.
Woodglut is a solid company with solid woodworking plans.
In your part of the world do you not have the rule of the sea that Power gives way to sail ???
I always wonder about wealthy Europeans of a certain age, who yet live despite their terrorist activity. Georg Schwartz, famously, that fool.
I will say he does seem to understand that China"s social credit system is anathema.
Grant Bratrud what are you on about?
Yeah really what the fuck are you on about
@@pauljohnson9542 Chris'sake, I used to have an old wooden sailboat.. I'm not rich.. I fill pot holes on the road for the local government..whats he saying... fucking dickhead anyway I'm cooking stew so I'm off .. yeah irish stew..ya have to cook it twice... all the best
Learned to sail at summercamp on Orcas Island back in '72. Don't understand the compulsion to highlight a homosexual flag in a video about sailing a wooden boat.
Too bad it's an old design, with a short waterline length, and long overhangs, sailboat design has come a long way since this was built, longer waterlines of newer boats mean faster boats, I would never buy an old out of date design, why??
You obviously do not even own a boat. Another wannabe.
Modern boats and materials have their advantages but are generally designed for light weight to strength ratio and high volume/accommodation. Note the narrow beam and deep keel of this vessel. This is the evolutionary result of centuries of sea vessel design, mostly all weather fishing ships. She will track through the water better, won't slam, isn't tender (too tippy). I have a high volume plastic boat and I love her. But let's admire this classy lady as a classic beauty with design characteristics that will get you safely through the storm.
Cheesy crap. Takes nothing but money to sit down on Orcas and buy a beautiful boat and while away the summers. Not impressed lol
The real legendary wooden boat story of Orcas Island is App Applegate and his Approximada! Gigantic handmade wooden boat built from an iron W-beam on the slopes of Mount Constitution, still rotting up there in the forest after App died at almost 100 yrs old, still putting the finishing touches on it to his dying day.
