Ants From Up There is one of my new all time favorite albums. And it's being severely overlooked on critics list. It's been my #1 the whole year and it was never dethroned
@@mocapcow2933 I know it's highly critically acclaimed. What I'm saying is that if you go on metacritic and check out the year end critics list for albums, you'll notice that it's not nearly as high up as it is should
I have tried so so hard to get into Ants From Up There, but I just can't do it. Isaac Wood's vocal style really irritates me, and I don't think the lyrics are nearly as poignant or deep as people make them out to be. Concorde is the only song on the album that really does something for me. Maybe it's my age, I feel like zoomers especially love Ants From Up There. I'm 33, and this album just reminds me of similar indie rock albums that came out 10 or 15 or 20 years ago that I think were so much better. Apologies to the Queen Mary, Funeral, The Moon and Antarctica, etc.
@@MisterHoodrich89 I see older people love this album too. The lyrics are really poignant is you actually look at them and break them down. Not even up for debate. But the vocal style, nothing you can do about that. You don’t gotta listen. Maybe if you liked the voice, you would see then lyrics are poignant.
When AFUT came out in february I was doing very well so I only listened to it once and I didn't really care about it. I went back to BCNR and especially to AFUT in october after a really bad breakup a few months earlier and naturally its my favourite album of this year now. Many tears have been cried to The Place Where He Inserted The Blade and Basketball Shoes for sure

I have finally found my people, I never would've thought anyone, let alone my favorite music analysis youtuber, would appreciate AFUT for the masterpiece that it is. That album has made me tremble and transported me to god knows where too many times. It's a shame that their lead singer quit the band, and they won't be performing any music for AFUT or FTFT. I need more music from them regardless.

It's crazy how he won't even give Nas albums a listen even with the Grammy nominations 2 years in a row and with all the high reviews and ratings for KD3 this year. How does he not even give it a listen and expect us to take him seriously
My top 10 (exclusively rap/hip-hop): 10-In Dimes We Trust by Mike Dimes (super underrated and my Trap album of the year) 9-Her Loss by Drake and 21 Savage (surprise pick but this is solely for the last 2 tracks, 3am in glemwood and I guess its fuck me are genuine song of the year contenders and reminds me of NWTS Drake) 8-Drill music in Zion by Lupe Fiasco (Lupe hasn't skipped a beat) 7-2000 by Joey Badass (Joey didn't pull no punches and Survivors guilt is my 2nd place for song of the year) 6-More Black Superheroes by West side Boogie (just a really good listen, nothing more) 5-Mr Morale and The Big Steppers by Kendrick Lamar (grew on me after initial listen, still a bit disappointed but Father Time is a masterpiece) 4- Soul Sold Seperately by freddie Gibbs (slightly bias as I love Fred but he kept the momentum from Alfredo going) 3- Cheat Codes by Black Thought (probably some of the best production of the year by Danger Mouse and Black Thought just floats on these beats) 2- Melt My Eyes See Your Future by Denzel Curry (Denzel just does what he does, Walkin is the undisputed Song of the year and Denzel really reached into his bag for this) 1-The Forever Story by JID ( this is literally flawless. This is what I wanted MMTBS to be and much more. JID not only delivers the best rapping performance of the year on all of his songs, but also Christo might be a sneak pick for producer of the year. Also JID CAN SING? Damn. If you haven't listened to this work of art, please do. It's an undisputed number 1 and anyone who argues is as blind as Stevie wonder)
Kendrick: releases album about trauma and emotional pain Shawn: L Black Country New Road: releases album about trauma and emotional pain Shawn: #1 album/song of the year
I think it's because K dot tackled those topics in more depth than Black Country New Road and was brutally honest so he might feel a bit awkward sometimes while listening to it as it's way too personal
A good concept doesn’t mean that an album is perfect in it’s essence. It’s not an essay, it’s music, so you still need to be able to execute it well otherwise what’s the point of music?
My list is gonna repeat a lot of the other comments, but... 1. De Todas Las Flores 2. The Forever Story 3. Drill Music in Zion 4. Renaissance 5. Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers 6. Melt My Eyez See Your Future 7. Aethiopes 8. Dawn FM 9. No Thank You 10. MOTOMAMÍ . . Honestly this was a really close list. Aside from 1 (that album clears), you can generally mix the order around. This is just what I was feeling today. And obviously some honorable mentions are Gemini Right, Dance Fever, I Didn't Mean to Haunt You. Keep in mind I haven't heard Caprisongs, Hostile Architecture, Ants From up There, or the new SZA project which likely would have been in contention as well. It was a good year, but kind off feel off because it feel like the biggest names, Bjork, Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepson, Drake, and Harry Styles (Lizzo too if you want though I never really liked her music and while kinda just okay this is Style's best album) weren't really hitting the same. Good year overall though.

I was surprised when you put Donda 2 as your #1 pick, but I respect it
Why wouldn't he? The name obviously implies that it's twice as good as Donda
Ants From Up There is one of my new all time favorite albums. And it's being severely overlooked on critics list. It's been my #1 the whole year and it was never dethroned
Agree with everything except if being overlooked. It’s one of the most critically well regarded albums this year.
@@mocapcow2933 I know it's highly critically acclaimed. What I'm saying is that if you go on metacritic and check out the year end critics list for albums, you'll notice that it's not nearly as high up as it is should
@@highwind1991 it’s 3rd for critics
MMESYF is my favourite album this year. I'm in love with every song in that album.
Auntie diaries is my personal song of the year

When AFUT came out in february I was doing very well so I only listened to it once and I didn't really care about it. I went back to BCNR and especially to AFUT in october after a really bad breakup a few months earlier and naturally its my favourite album of this year now. Many tears have been cried to The Place Where He Inserted The Blade and Basketball Shoes for sure

Hope you're doing good today
I had the honor of hearing Denzel's project live, it was an amazing experience and all round one of the best live performances i've heard period.
Happy for your experience man sounds like a hell of a time

5-Mr Morale and The Big Steppers by Kendrick Lamar (grew on me after initial listen, still a bit disappointed but Father Time is a masterpiece)
4- Soul Sold Seperately by freddie Gibbs (slightly bias as I love Fred but he kept the momentum from Alfredo going)

2- Melt My Eyes See Your Future by Denzel Curry (Denzel just does what he does, Walkin is the undisputed Song of the year and Denzel really reached into his bag for this)
1-The Forever Story by JID ( this is literally flawless. This is what I wanted MMTBS to be and much more.
Damn, I forgot Pusha T. I don't know if he would have made the top ten, but definitely an honorable mention
