Other peeps have probably said it, and this comment will probably be lost in the thousands, but consult your vet regarding your dog's weight. You don't want Danes to grow too quickly or weigh too much because it's incredibly hard on their joints when they're older. A little rib showing isn't a bad thing.

Seeing a dog's ribs doesn't inherently mean that they're underweight. Many dog breeds you should be able to see them slightly, or they're naturally very thin breeds.
Yeah our Rhodesian ridgeback is a pretty skinny boy, thought that was an issue until we looked it up and saw that there just naturally pretty skinny and fit
Great Dane owner here, on this breed it's actually better if you can kinda see the ribs. Because of how fragile their hips and shoulders are, it's actually better if they are slightly underweight. The ribs showing, slightly at least, is not a sign of your dog being underfed and is usually recommend. For this breed it's better to be a few pounds underweight than any over because of how easily the joints can be damaged. It's also why vets will tell you that if they can't get up somewhere on their own, couch or bed, you shouldn't put them up there because them getting down can permanently f up their joints.
If they are so delicate, why are we still breeding these dogs? I love animals in general, but I don't understand the need of humans to create and maintain the existence of these breeds that are prone to so many health issues. Or even pugs or bulldogs... it's just cruel and barbaric.
@@Ireenne I'm afraid I am not the person to ask, though I would place them higher than say Pugs on that scale because if they're well taken care of problems can usually be avoided, unlike Pugs which are born with those defects. It's like knowing your family has a history of heart problems. As long as you take the proper steps and do your due diligence, most of the time you probably won't have problems until you get older, if even then.

You can't mix them with most other big dogs because you run the risk of having a dog with the worst possible mix, heavy with delicate joints, and smaller dogs might make the issue even worse.

Just because you can kind of see your dogs ribs does not mean it is underweight or under fed. You have to understand that some breeds simple do not fill out like others and by feeding them too much you will actually be harming them more than any good.
Yeah, its a common conception that your dog is at good weight if you can feel the ribs, not like sticking out but feel them. Alot healthier than having an obese dog.
Being able to slightly see the ribs and a nice tuck from their chest and abdomen to the pelvis is actually better for large breeds. It keeps them at a healthier weight and decreases the risk of hip problems. The ribs shouldn't be plain as day visible and painfully visible, but you should be able to see the last few just a bit and there shouldn't be a lot of fat on them, easy to feel. Healthy weight will help your dogs live longer lives, same with good dental hygiene.
And after all of those supplements and chemicals, a random street dog will probably live longer and healthier because his "breed" (probably a mix between 20 different dog breeds) turns out better than years and years of inbreeding so the breed doesnt change. FYI im not bashing on the particular owner or dog just wanted to put it out as an example i wish all the health and happiness to this puppy.

We didn’t know our senior dog was adverse to rice until feeding her the new diet. She’s doing so good now and acting like a puppy again 🥰

Just because you can kind of see your dogs ribs does not mean it is underweight or under fed. You have to understand that some breeds simple do not fill out like others and by feeding them too much you will actually be harming them more than any good.
Yeah, its a common conception that your dog is at good weight if you can feel the ribs, not like sticking out but feel them. Alot healthier than having an obese dog.

Being able to slightly see the ribs and a nice tuck from their chest and abdomen to the pelvis is actually better for large breeds. It keeps them at a healthier weight and decreases the risk of hip problems.
The ribs shouldn't be plain as day visible and painfully visible, but you should be able to see the last few just a bit and there shouldn't be a lot of fat on them, easy to feel.
Healthy weight will help your dogs live longer lives, same with good dental hygiene.
We're Americans we want everything to be fat like us.

And after all of those supplements and chemicals, a random street dog will probably live longer and healthier because his "breed" (probably a mix between 20 different dog breeds) turns out better than years and years of inbreeding so the breed doesnt change.

Priorities
It’s really nice seeing people make dog food now. It’s getting hard to afford everything so we’re growing a bunch of vegetables which we’ll pair with lean meat and organ meats. We didn’t know our senior dog was adverse to rice until feeding her the new diet. She’s doing so good now and acting like a puppy again 🥰
