Like the 1 giving penalties because they chose to race on a street and theyre street malfunctioned ruining a car that the driver and team had nothing to do with?
Was a pleasure to race alongside you Thorn, I hope we get to do battle many more times! I can’t say enough good things about GLTC. Never in any racing do you see so many drivers leaving the track with gigantic grins across their face no matter where they finished, and you guys really captured the emotions and happenings perfectly. If you’re reading this and have the ability to participate, do it - seriously it’s the most fun you’ll ever have.
Absolutely, GLTC is rapidly shaping up to be one of the most interesting/exciting/downright fun divisions in all of Motorsport. The approachability, fun racing, and massive field make it a joy to watch as a fan and also to (hopefully) participate in the next (or one after) seasons if I can get the finances required to field a car properly. Fine driving out there!
This is one of, if not the best episode of Gears and Gasoline. Even without the last race dramatics you guys made racing content that is fun, exciting to watch. Great jobs Bens, big things coming for 2024!
While the loss was heartbreaking, the best part of that video was watching Thorn slowly come to the realization that he can hang right with the guys at the top and he deserves to be there.
Far and away the best car content on UA-cam. As an editor, I'm shocked at how well this episode was edited. The pacing is perfect, music hits the notes perfectly. You guys are killing it. And now I want to build a competitive Gridlife car.
Thorn, I know I'm just a guy behind a computer screen, in front of a keyboard, in the youtube comments section, but I cannot overstate how proud I felt watching your performance in race #4. I've been watching gears and gasoline avidly for 5 or so years now, but watching you grow into the GLTC driver that you are has been what hooked me into the gears and gasoline channel. As absolutely heart wrenching as that mechanical failure was, I hope you feel proud of what you've accomplished this season. Going from back of the pack to nearly snagging a podium within one season is a REMARKABLE feat. I can't wait to see you transform from budding grassroots driver to GLTC champion, and I have no doubts that you're going to achieve great things. Much love and I can't wait to follow you both along these next chapters of your story
Hearing Thorn say "NO, NOOOO" as he drops positions on the last lap after leading the entire race... No exaggeration, I'm actually crying. Keep fighting bro, I know youll get another chance!
"P1 in 4 events" Ben you're a fantastic driver! So hyped watching you climb so fast. Be proud and keep your chin up. You're just starting to heat up ! S/O Lin for being a real one and hugging the homie when he needed it.
I dont think ive ever been more emotionally invested in a video. I genuinely have goosebumps. No matter whether youve raced or not, everyones had that feeling of doing their best, getting ahead, and then something outside of your control pulls you back. Now its up to you to crawl back up. Amazing video.
12:05am here in Australia... And yet I will never stop waiting up late to watch your episodes when they release Edit: Literal goosebumps on that final race. Fantastic driving
GLTC is one of the best curated and sanctioned events in motorsports. I hope to see it continue to grow and attract talented homegrown drivers and builders. This is proper racing. Not overly limited in the scope what you can bring, but rather how much you can get out of a certain P/W by choosing for more power/tire or more aero as you see fit. I love it.
Oh my god, that broke my heart! UGH! GUTTED. Welcome to racing. You kept an amazing attitude, though. Not many people could take that like you did. BRAVO! Now I gotta find the other races.
Almost got me crying haha, can't imagine how it felt to you in the car. Wonderful video, and kind of inspiring I must say. I will count this as if you finished at 1st place.
The amount of true happiness that is felt by the Gears and Gasoline crew is heart warming. If you're lucky enough to have a supportive friend group like this, consider yourself blessed. Great stuff guys!
Absolutely incredible race and Kudos to the camera crew for making us feel like we were part of that whole event🥵, keep it up Gears&Gasoline🍻 tuned in all the way from South Africa🌍
Ben congrats. This is so heartbreaking. Still, you did an awesome, almost impeccable job. It sucks that all these problems come out always at the worst time, though I am sure you are going to become the greatest of all time.
My heart broke on that last lap, You might not have technically won the race, But its clear the talent you have Ben, You have a very bright racing future ahead of you.
Ben you may not have won the race but you won our hearts we have followed you from the start though your ups an downs your a winner no matter the place you finish
This episode made me cry. You showed them your talent, Ben. Asian Ben is right, thats not your 1 chance. You’ll get another soon and next time, you’ll definitely get that W!!!
i swear i nearly cried for you Thornie! all the way from australia here you are really making me want to delete the turbo off my ek kswap and build an N/A monster
I am praying for you both to have ONE weekend where your cars perform and there aren't any mechanical faults. It hurt so much to hear the shouting in the Civic during the last lap.
Gutted for Ben! I was on the edge of my seat that last race! That win will come! I have loved following Mia and Ben from a cheap road-trip car to leading at Laguna Seca!
I’ve been watching you guys for years. Since your first Alaska trip! I’ve Watched every video I could as soon as it was released. I was there when you did the civic and mx5 challenge video and watched you and the civic grow from there. I really felt this loss. All that work all that effort accumulated into one moment that was so cruelly taken away from you. But you have proved that you have winning in you and the car! This won’t be your last opportunity many many more will come and I and many other people will be here to watch that story unfold. What a fantastic drive
So, I have 25 years of race experience and I would love to pass some of the things I have learnt on to the two Bens For Ben T: Stick to your pace! Whether you are chasing or leading, stick to that rythym you have built up. The very second you start thinking to yourself "maybe I can brake that metre later or pick up the throttle that half a second earlier", that's when you make mistakes and go backwards. Racing isn't about making no mistakes, it's about making less mistakes than everyone else, so, drive smooth and try to put the pressure on the guys around you to make the mistakes. And always check those 50 cent parts. They will 100% ruin your day when you don't......... I think you know that now, ha ha For Ben L: Relax, mate! You are putting way too much pressure on yourself. Honestly, the more fun you have, the better you will drive. Take some positives from the weekend. You were battling with people and I saw a sneaky move here and there, too. That's huge progress! You are learning and you will never stop learning, so, you may as well have some fun with the people you are racing with whether that is position no where or the lead of the race. Your speed will come with confidence, your confidence will come with enjoyment, so, focus on having fun first. Really happy you have stuck with the MRS rather than trying to force that Evo to race, too. Nothing beats an NA race engine Can't wait to watch your next Gridlife races, gents. Thanks so much for the content
I haven’t screamed at my television the entirety of my life watching F1 the way I started screaming when Thorn couldn’t get into (4th?) gear. I’ve been watching Gears and Gasoline for years and years, and I’ve never been so proud of both Ben’s, and never felt so much empathy for a video. One way or the other… y’all are just killing it. But I do wanna see the Laguna Seca comeback next year ❤
I remember when you and Lin just drive off with weird car choices for a road trip. Now you're actually getting up there with real talents, what a development for you and Ben Lin mann, have my support :))
I seriously cannot wait for when Lin gets his car all together so he can finally drive confidently and consistently. I believe that’s the issue with Lin right now, I don’t think it’s a car problem. But no matter what, I love seeing Lin race in the MRS
@@JonHop1I mean. Okay yeah, but I also think that the constant loses and poor performance from Lin has him at a mental block. Do you remember Romain grosjean in f1 when he lost all the time but right when got a lucky break his confidence shot through the roof and so did his overall performance? I think that’s what Lin needs. And a working engine😅
@ImMcRingo it's both. He's frustrated because his car has so many problems. And a lot of that is on him trying to be different and go outside the box so far. Mr2 Spyder not a great course chassis(unless u have unlimited funds).. And the engine selection was risky. No one uses it for racing like that, which is why they are chasing so many issues and it's down on power.
Driving an active project like the MR-S makes it so much harder to even focus on refining your driving. Leguna Seca really brought out some crazy moments. Was awesome meeting you Ben, and seeing the MR2 in person!
One of the best, if not the best video by far from you guys! That last lap gave me flashbacks to the LMP1 Toyota at LeMans when they broke down on the last lap. Absolutely devistating and heart-wrenching but just keep your head up (both Thorn and Lin) and know that your time will come to stand on the podium! Aloha! 🤙
Man - that was awesome, unfortunately ended like a weird movie. Don't want to drop any spoilers, but really-really hope they can get our the Yota. Would love to see both of them hit that top 5/10.
Been following the whole journey for years. Both Ben's have become amazing drivers. Love the car content, trust me your guys whole team just kills it. What I love seeing even more than the racing and cars is simply the bond of friendship you have with your friends. You guys are surrounded with loyalty. Love it
Been watching you guys for years. I wish Long could have ended the season on track, but seeing Thorn on Pole at Laguna, brings tears to my eyes. So proud of the two of you guys! Congratulations to the team!
I absolutely feel for all of the team here. Not just the Ben’s, but mechanics, support staff and to editors and team that help the channel. This captured so well the emotions of racing as you progress in skill and start to face the roulette wheel the lady luck that spins against you.
I feel like being seven years old, watching Cars for the first time again. This has got to be one of the racing highlights of my year, and it has not been a slow year at all. My god, what a race!! Wow!
My heart broke. That was a win in every sense of the word. Mechanical failures are devastating when superb runs like this happen. Good on you, Ben. You have the skill, heart and car to compete at the front of GLTC. Congrats on the progress. Kudos.
Short Ben, keep your head up. The gap you were pulling on 2nd place in race 4 proves that the car and you are up there in the top 5. You'll get another chance. Tall Ben, keep on improving the MR2. Don't try to be unique, drop as much weight as possible and stick with what you know will work. Also kudos to you for being such a good friend, you two are the dream team. Even though you ended up with worse results and didn't even got to race in the last round you still consoled your Bro, where some would have been sulking about their own problems. That's why I keep on rooting for you!
Mannn. You took that with such grace. Really shows the quality of character. That way you handled that earned more respect from me than a P1 ever would. Onwards and upwards! You’ll get it
Nice job Ben Th. It was a gut wrencher watching it turn from top of the world to a tragedy. I was already typing the congrats in the comments just before the last lap and then discarded it. I actually think it’s a better story and does create the suspense with the audience for next season.
Awesome cars, drivers, filming, editing, story telling. Felt the love of the whole team. Heart broken for that mfint clip. You'll get there eventually!
Genuinely my favorite channel. Watching the ups and downs of racing and developing a car is so relatable. It has been great motivation as I fight with issues with my own car and inspired me to keep pushing to get it out on the track ❤
I watched the last race of that weekend on the edge of my couch, just cheering you on for the win. To have it end that way was cruel. I was gutted and it threw my day off a bit tbh. The editing with the live commentary was great, but as always my favorite part is the team and the unwavering support for each other. The win is coming in 2024 and I'll be right here with a front row seat. Keep it up team G&G!
Wow, my eyes were full of water. I know the feeling all to well. Excellent drive Thorn. Wishing LIN the best with the MR2, development coming along soon get by the teething pains.
Sitting here watching Thorn's 4th race and my heart was pounding, getting so excited that he's gonna do it, and then seeing the issue with the shift in that corner hurt, but the first two "NO!," that was heartbreaking. Thorn that was an amazing race. Lin, I can't wait to see you figure out why the MR2 is down on power, fix it, and then race your ass off next season. You guys are killin it. Good job guys.
Out of all the videos that you guys have posted on the passion of cars and racing this one moved me the most. So happy for the Thorn and I can’t wait too see what Lin does to his build. Keep pushing the both of you.
I think I never felt so much involved in a race I'm simply watching... This is really hard you was deserving it so much! Keeps pushing you could do it!
That is absolutely rough man!!! The random pole start was a bit of a fluke but holding pole for the entire race was not. You were making gaps even after mistakes. You were the best driver on the track that last race.
The Civic, and importantly you, showed great pace. You were in the top running all weekend. You learned things about you, and the car, and will undoubtly come back to the next event with high finishes. Keep your head up!
Through years of great and hard work you guys have made it, you guys now are rsce drivers on a regular! I'm immensely proud of growing up with you guys through the years all the way since Ben's little garage and the blue Ford
Keep your heads up Ben & Ben! You got all 1 million of us subscribers cheering for you both. A new day will come and first place is calling both your names
First and foremost Ben congratulations, you killed it. It was amazing driving on your part and so much fun to watch. You guys know how to make a race fun to watch. Keep up the great work, can't wait for next race.
Ahh the hype, the music the camera work and angles. The sun setting on the course. A perfect video, can feel both of the Ben's joy & painful moments. I cannot wait to see the next one.
I was literally on the edge of my seat. This video totally played with my emotions and it was fun! Totally gutted,Thorn. It probably wasn't meant to be but your day will come. Well done both of you and the rest of the G&G team!
What a drive! I’m gutted for you Ben, but you dominated that final race until literally the last lap! It took a mechanical failure for you not to win! You’ve really upped your driving skills in the last few years and you gotta be proud of that! Keep up the amazing content guys! As for the MRS, just keep the development going! It’s getting there!
Thorn - you were leading comfortably for a bit there! You have the pace my man! Lin - youre getting the car dialed in more and more every time. Last 3 before, made up a bunch of places since then. You're improving every time and the car is a lot closer to showing a real competitive edge! Absolute bro at the end too. I love this series, its great racing
You drove beautifully Ben. Even my heart broke on the last lap and I cannot iagine how you felt. No sorries will do it justice, but you will come back; today you showed that you are a front runner!!!
bro you drove the shit out of that civic, its not your one chance youll come back better and faster and learned from everything that happened, were rooting for you, also for the other ben, i know the MR2 can do it, you just gotta keep working on it, bens civic wasnt like this when he started so i know youll tho better too, man you guys inspire me to go out track driving, wish we had events like this in my country.
That was painful and yet you fought until the very end Ben. Be proud and the next race will for sure be a podium. I wish the evo is here to race as well...
Why a great episode! Gutted for you Thorne but you have proved you can build and race a class winning car twice now! Lin, you can get there if Thorne can, we believe in you!!!
Wow! You guys are living the dream!!! So cool! That shot looking backwards at the start of the last race, you could just feel the intensity and the pressure!!! So gutting how it ended because of a stupid little retaining clip!!! Can't wait to see the revenge journey arc!!!
Ben, no matter the outcome, you have proven your talent. Mad respect.
probably outgrowing the civic. maybe a faster FR car can make the races easier on him.

That was a heart-breaking end to the race, but watching your positivity shine through even in the face of adversity is truly inspiring!
Honestly that last race was driven like a true race winner. You should be super proud and you'll get them next time.
Omg! Straight Nail bitter!!!! Amazing driving Ben! Amazing video as always.
In everyone's hearts, you came first now. You know, in yours you can touch 1st that is priceless
Damn clip! So heart breaking…..but we’re all sure you’ll be at that pole again and getting the checkered flag as a winner soon. Keep fighting!
Nice job Ben Th. It was a gut wrencher watching it turn from top of the world to a tragedy. I was already typing the congrats in the comments just before the last lap and then discarded it. I actually think it’s a better story and does create the suspense with the audience for next season.
Pinning the shifter cable clips is a great idea. I’ll be doing that now.
Awesome cars, drivers, filming, editing, story telling. Felt the love of the whole team. Heart broken for that mfint clip. You'll get there eventually!
Nearly cried watching this live, nearly cried watching your POV. You guys are going to get a win next year. Goodluck to G&G both Bens ❤.
Genuinely my favorite channel. Watching the ups and downs of racing and developing a car is so relatable.
It has been great motivation as I fight with issues with my own car and inspired me to keep pushing to get it out on the track ❤
I'm a grown man and I nealry cried. Absolutely gut wrenching.
Job well done, G&G. Very, very cool.
We'll Get Em Soon B.Lin
The Civic, and importantly you, showed great pace. You were in the top running all weekend. You learned things about you, and the car, and will undoubtly come back to the next event with high finishes. Keep your head up!
Great camera work, very enjoyable to watch!
Through years of great and hard work you guys have made it, you guys now are rsce drivers on a regular! I'm immensely proud of growing up with you guys through the years all the way since Ben's little garage and the blue Ford
This is GENUINELY the most i've ever been into motorsports and it is 100% thanks to gears and gasoline and rob dahm
Keep your heads up Ben & Ben! You got all 1 million of us subscribers cheering for you both. A new day will come and first place is calling both your names
Little Ben: Man, what a gut punch. You were flying!
Asian Ben: Progress is progress no matter how little. Keep at it!
These videos make me want to watch these races live.
Two Bens being awesome.
Two Bens Winning.
Videography better than Hollywood. Whoever thought this one through and helped produce - DOUBLE THUMBS UP!
Oh man I FEEL for you! So sorry to see the outcome after such an incredible race. Great driving!
Great job Ben! I really love how you've handled the situation after the race.
