12:10 Same is true for IR sensors, but they are influenced by color and reflectivity of an object. Not true that they are less accurate, but since they measure light intensity, they can be faster! If the object has dark color, it will read less accurately. If it has a bright color it will read more accurately. If it's matte it will read more accurately from an angle then if it's shiny... Important to note that complementary colors will not reflect that light, so green will show as black in red red or infra red light(different shades of green...), while yellow will show as black in blue and UV light(different shades off course except those highly reflective stickers highlighting markers, etc)... Every sensor have it's pros and cons. Ultrasonic sensors suffer from echoes as well for example, and IRs may read crap when measuring a light emitting object, especially in IR range (IR heater or incandescent lamp for example.) They also loos range in sunlight well, but have no problem measuring in darkness... You can also do some clever analog reference switching, and/or over volt the LED just a little bit to improve an IR sensors range and sensitivity(That requires proper calibration of course). But that doesn't really work that well with ultrasonic sensors... A good way to find ideal color and reflectivity is to set a phone camera to black and white, and point at the object, that will show you how bright is it and by viewing it with the camera from different angle will show you it's reflectivity from different angle. Phone cameras are sensitive enough to see things in nothing but infra red light. Security cameras see the same way at night, they have infra LEDs, and they switch on and off their filters automatically depending on light conditions...
hello mister very nice video, i would like to ask you something about this project but the implementation is done using stm32f401re, so instead of digitalWrite, should i use gpio set (Pin pin) and instead of pulseIn should i use a timer in order to count the time between trigger High and echo High ? thanks
Thank you for your explanation. I wonder if you could make a video using laser like those laser meters. The maximum distance of the ultrasonic meter is about 5 meter (~12 feet) according to the specs of the amazon in the description.
When I try the code, my system keeps returning a distance of "0" . I keep having this problem and tried several sensors from different suppliers. Maybe it is the arduino board itself? Any ideas?
I have a question about the Ultrasonic sensor. I have a water-box and I’d like to measure how fill is using the HC-SDO4 sensor with Arduino It is all set and in my protoboard the sensor works well, but when I try to connect to sensor through a 4way wire it is not working. The water-box (and the sensor is inside in a dry place of course) is 4 meters from the Arduino, wired connected. My question is, Does have any limitation in distance to connect the sensor through a wire? If yes, what do you suggest me to do? How can I send the signal and receive the echo to Arduino in 4 meters of distance? Thank you!
