    Dr. Alan Goldhamer is the co-founder of TrueNorth Health Center, a state-of-the-art facility that provides medical and chiropractic services, psychotherapy and counseling, as well as massage and bodywork. He is also director of the Center's groundbreaking residential health education program.
    Articulate, inspiring and energetic, Dr. Goldhamer is one of the most pioneering and dedicated visionaries in health today. An outspoken professional who doesn't shy away from a spirited debate, he is deeply committed to helping people stuck in self-destructive cycles reclaim their ability to change their lives.
    Dr. Goldhamer has supervised the fasts of thousands of patients. Under his guidance, the Center has become one of the premier training facilities for doctors wishing to gain certification in the supervision of therapeutic fasting.
    Dr. Goldhamer was the principal investigator in two landmark studies. The first: "Medically Supervised Water-Only Fasting in the Treatment of Hypertension" appeared in the June 2001 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. Its publication marked a turning point in the evolution of evidence supporting the benefits of water-only fasting. The second study: "Medically Supervised Water-Only Fasting in the Treatment of Borderline Hypertension," appeared in the October 2002 issue of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
    Currently, Dr. Goldhamer is directing a team that is developing a prospective study, incorporating random assignment and long-term follow-up on the cost and clinical outcomes in the treatment of diabetes and high blood pressure with fasting and a health-promoting diet.
    After completing his chiropractic education at Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon, Dr. Goldhamer traveled to Australia, where he became licensed as an osteopathic physician. He is the author of The Health Promoting Cookbook and co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering The Hidden Force That Undermines Health and Happiness.

    He stopped eating flesh at the same age as I did and we are now the same age and everything he states is spot on. I experience optimal health, although I did not go vegan for my health, I went vegan for the animals. I am now watching friends and family suffer from common preventable diseases as a result of the choices they make in their lifestyle. Yet vegans are considered extreme. Imagine having optimal health as a result of not condoning and paying for animal abuse. Win-win!

      I guess this is a vegan echo chamber, but FYI older people (like me) can be perfectly healthy on low carb diets with moderate meat. A big advantage of low carb is that I can dowse my broccoli/Brussel sprouts/cauliflower with EVOO and Redmond pink salt. No-one is gonna convince me that such could be unhealthy.

    I dare not say this .... But learning about fasting ... Helped me heal from my anorexia . bc I looked forward to the health benefits of the refeeding stage knowing that I will rebound stronger than before. The self control and discipline for me was not to stay away from food but to want to eat again. Control is a huge thing for people with eating disorders... Often times that's truly what it is about .... This put my self control to a true test. Im healthier than ever . I praise God that fasting saved my life FROM anorexia . it gave me a deeper appreciation for food REAL food for which before i had no respect at all.

    Dr Goldhamer is quite possibly the Dr. whos philosophy and ideas are going to save humankind from itself. We are so poorly educated in this country when it comes to diet and proper healthy ways of feeding ourselves. This area is broad and complicated as food is essential to life yet its misuse is also rooted in most of the diseases that cause premature death. To any suffering i would dig deep and think about what Dr Goldhamer is really saying. We are experiencing the results, side effects of an ineffective food industry that has for many decades provided millions of us products that were void of any truly nutritional content and so since a balance of nutrition is essential for optimal function of your body we are seeing a clear and cause and effect relationship with processed refined nutrient free products (not even food really) and how they have ravaged society. Take time to say to yourself that you are important enough to at least attempt to adopt a dietary rebirth of sorts. The ongoing research (results) supporting Dr. Goldhamers claims are nothing shy of miraculous. Open your minds let go of your current beliefs that continue to resist necessary change in your life go and become a miracle for yourself.

    I make bread on a regular basis and it took me awhile to figure out but it's no problem without oil. If I don't add too much water it doesn't stick to my hands. I only let it sit with the yeast for 1.5 hours and then knead it and it doesn't stick to my hands. It rises fine to my taste and I use parchment paper, reusing it for 3-5 times before it becomes too brittle and broken.
    I still eat too much but not by a lot. I use 2 ingredients: yeast and flour, and afterwards add salt to the surface of the food. At this time, flour is $0.80 per pound but whole wheat pasta cheapest is $1.50 per pound. Since I eat each of those a lot I make sure I have at least some of the flour which is less expensive per calorie. I would assume that I can get the generic pasta at some point in the future for less than $1.50. I really want to keep eating wheat, though. It fits my routine perfect. I'm not hurting for money but when I see a 33% difference in price I cringe and take action.

    So funny…if your food is high quality it naturally tastes delicious. The way I have experienced this issue with respect to a lack of flavor in food is an issue related to how our food is grown, harvested and delivered to the customer. I left the supermarket long ago in LA for fruits and vegetables and get all those items at the farmers market. A tremendous difference! You’ll find the farmers who do the best work just by the flavor and shelf life of the food they produce and sell. An example of this is John Givens at the Mar Vista market in Los Angeles. Incredible food, flavorful and long lasting.

      You must be rich if you can afford to shop at Farmers's Markets, where I live they are very expensive. I buy organic non-GMOs or grow my own. It is easy to make a little greenhouse from a transparent plastic tub turned upside down and a bag of potting mix with holes on one side for drainage, and the other side mostly cut out, some soil removed then planted with greens. Inexpensive set up too!

    What about treating SIBO?
    Plant based foods only is not at all recommended for those with SIBO.
    I definitely want to incorporate fasting in my life regularly and eliminate all processed sugars and eliminate most processed foods but I plan to keep animal proteins in my diet but maybe much less, like 3-4 servings a week and the rest plant based.
    I love this information and it’s coming into my life at perfect timing 🙏

My blood pressure tends to be high-normal / prehypertensive. They make it seem like it’s easy. I like Dr Leder because he discusses more of a transition. People struggle and it’s not as helpful to say buck up, clean up your environment and deal with. How fat do you want to be? 🙄 some folks have been eating poorly their whole life. Being vegan is enough of a mind shift, now go SOS free. It’s a challenge. If there were steps on how to do it as opposed to just grit and bear it.... It’s not easy and the food tastes bland af without a sprinkle of salt or a sprinkle of sugar. But I’m trying

      Vic I’m a 15 year vegan but I do use very little oil, some sugar like maple syrup and dates and Himalayan salt. I’m determined to cut it all in half and then keep cutting. Chef AJ gives you ways to season your food without SOS. My thinking is as I decrease my use of SOS my tastebuds will adjust. After water fasts (last was 7 days) food tastes AMAZING again. So maybe fasting ... also veggies at their peak of freshness is huge. All the best!

    • @wellnessgirl2806
      @wellnessgirl2806 4 роки тому +2

      You don't have to transition over night. Clean up one meal a day. Start with whatever's easiest, that feels like a doable step that is evenso a bit of a stretch. Maybe breakfast. Then when you steady and established with clean breakfast, move on to morning snack, or lunch. Sub one item at a time if needed. Find your pace, be patient and kind with yourself. It took me 18months to clean up my diet. Radical change often leads to backsliding. But if you do want faster results, book into True North for a re-education of your tastebuds. Go well.

We hold monthly physician meetings and cardiac cath conferences. For the 24 years I worked there the cardiology chief, and the changed over the years, would always have me order cold cuts, mayo based salads and cookies for every event. Cardiologist. Wanting crap. 😢🤢🤮

    My curiosity is what does he mean when says “minimally processed” grains? ALL grains are processed heavily. Grains fool the satiation mechanism every single time, Hence why we overeat on them every single time.
    Sure, grains do fill you up but they’re also the cheapest “food” available and have many harmful affects including opiates. Grains are given to livestock primarily for the purpose of ‘fattening them up’.
    Chef AJ, I’m wondering... why are grains good?

    • @lf8238
      @lf8238 4 роки тому +1

      I agree with you as a whole. I find grains raising my blood sugars significantly and are easy to overeat. They have an addictive quality, hence they are so popular. However, an ear of corn is not processed at all. Oat groats or even steel cut you can hardly call processed. My job is very physical, so I burn through the sugars quickly. But most people have sedentary jobs and do not need these starches to fuel them. Actually, I find beans and peas and lentils to be the best sustaining fuel source, aside, of course, from veggies, fruit and nuts/seeds. 🙂🌱

    • @dhccpa
      @dhccpa 4 роки тому +2

      Maybe you are eating so-called whole grain cereals instead of cooking true whole grains (groats).

    • @liahk1000
      @liahk1000 4 роки тому +1

      He means as close to how they appear in nature as possible. Whole grains with the "shell" as a first option, the whole grain without the shell would be the second best.
      White flour is the worst, that's the most processed.

    • @swimm3r137
      @swimm3r137 4 роки тому

      L F if you burn through sugars (fruit) easily, why not just eat more when you’re empty? Starches aren’t a good fuel source (they release slowly rather than rapidly) - especially for ppl who need a consistent fuel source, aka athletes or ppl who “work” for food. Besides this, there’s a million other reasons why starch is second best

    Wondering your thoughts on my situation. Been doing 1-2 meals per day with no junk food for 2-3 months- was doing good until I caught covid in December and have had a few crappy days of binge eating sweets in between IF since. And since, I’ve also attempted to go 3 days fast on 2 different times drinking water and an electrolyte powder. Each time around the 60 hour mark I get very faint and light headed so I eat a salad, lie down, and feel better in about an hour. I’ve never been diagnosed with diabetes, nor have had high sugar readings, but over the last couple of years I’ve noticed symptoms such as tingling/numbness in limbs, eye floaters, frequent urination, dry mouth/thirsty at night mostly, was told I had a fatty liver by naturopath, and had high blood count on bilirubin and liver proteins one time(March 2020). I hear about DKA and wonder if what I’m feeling when I’m in hour 60 is a sign of it. My glucose level was in 60s, and my ketone on the urine strip is in moderate section when I’m feeling that way. I’m also experiencing a weird taste in my mouth the last couple of weeks- can’t really describe it. Not really metallic to me, but more acidic I think. Any ideas?

    This is very sad…. I agree with him about fasting, but eating the way they recommend…. No salt , no animal products at all , no body will live for ever what is the point of living a life without enjoyment…. I tried the no sugar oil , salt and not animal products… before this I was very healthy… after 40 plus pound gained, cavities, lost half of my hair, skin got horrible…. Lots of rashes and acne….thyroid was affected grow a cyst in it…. I was sad and miserable, always hungry, They must be very careful with the recommendations, I am sure that works for some people but not for all. I do better with fasting one or twice a week, and tried to eat low carb… and if I eat carbs, only complex and once a day. Lost 30 pounds all ready … teeth are better whiter… hair still working on regrowing it, skin is healing , thyroid is better, hormones better…

    If veganism is so healthy, then why do children suffer health issues from it? Why is it deficient of B 12? And if meat is so wrong, why did the creator of all things, Jesus, eat fish? I've tried many things and going into ketosis from a Keto diet or carnivore diet was the best for me. The minute I eat carbs, all weight loss stopped, blood sugar spiked, and cravings came back. On Keto, I had many health issues because I was juicing Kale, which led to thyroiditis. I had to learn the hard way what cruciferous raw veggies will do to your heath unless you cook them to destroy the bad effects on your thyroid. Plant foods do have nutrients but are not bio-available to be absorbed in your body without fat or rather animal products. So no, veganism long term is not healthy, our brains need fat. Eggs are loaded with healthy nutrients for the brain. I know I am going to get bashed for my comment, but do your own research and listen to naturopaths talk about why veganism is not the solution.

    • @fpurnell3559

      Watch forks over knives or game changers on Netflix. Animal protein actually originates from plants and B12 is given to the animals which is how you get it when eaten. So either way it's supplemented. I've been wfpb for a short amount of time and I'm sleeping better (I was waking up in the middle of the night wheezing and coughing) and have more energy than I have done for a long time. You should absolutely research it and make an educated decision based on your findings, but research both sides.

    I can only speaking for myself but as someone who has been struggling with alot of different mental health struggles including eating disorders since I was about 10, (am 20 now).
    I'd have to say that eating a whole food plant based diet was the best thing I ever did to combat them and save myself from my living nightmare of always thinking about food. Because I'd already been vegan since I was 17, but my disorded eating was only getting worse. But when I went WFPB (about 8 months ago) all, and I mean All of my mental health problems got a tone of alot easier to deal with.
    So I thank doctors like him and Gregor and people who use their influence for good like Lilykoi Hawaii and Mic the Vegan and Chef AJ. Because when I got the scientific and the anecdotal proof that it could get better I tried it and it honestly saved my life and it is so much easier to deal with nowadays.
