And the way the _Jolly Roger_ is dramatically revealed with John Williams’s stirring pirate music rising and stomping and crashing with glee. The project was originally intended as a musical, and scenes like this feel very much like it. The pirates already have a chorus going.
1:35 : Love the cheeky smile he's got after his exchange with the pirate. Shows you that the mischevious kid is still here, even after all those years.
Iconic! One of my favorite childhood movies! Amazing back then every actor seemed to be remembered for an iconic roll! Glenn Close is Cruella, Tim Curry is Pennywise and Dustin Hoffman IS HOOK! Also, Robin Williams is Mrs. Doubtfire!! Miss them times!! Thanks for uploading!
I can still feel fear in my heart from the boo-box. As a kid, it was terrifying - the scene with Glenn Close's pirate struggling and screaming, being put into that chest with scorpions being dropped into a tiny hatch is still stuck in my head to this day.
I love rewatching this movie over and over until I notice the small things. Like the actor who plays the pirate with crutches actually broke the crutch and kinda kept going, until the next scene they put tape over it🤣
Did anyone notice that Peter had to get Tinker Bell's name right just for her to come rescue him? He gets the name wrong twice, but then says it properly and WHAM!
The set design by John Napier is ingenious. The pirate wharf is constructed out of the remains of all the vessels devoured by the roving _Jolly Roger._ It is a subtle reference to Barrie’s description of Hook’s ship in his exquisite novel, _Peter and Wendy,_ as “the cannibal of the seas.”
I believe it's how it was intended, but I love that this movie feels like a direct sequel to the Animated Classic Peter Pan Disney. Also, thank you for including the entire scene intact, it's always broken up into pieces on here.
One of the greatest villain intro's of all time. The music, the pirates chanting, the design of the pirate village and the Jolly Roger. Then out comes Hook with his regal outfit, his powerful speech of revenge, then his intimidating gesture of those who doubt him, then some comedy of the red carpet, to show that only he is the celebrity, a Noble among the peasants. Then his act of cruelty to show he will not be underestimated even by his own men. As the tale says, 'he was handsome countenance and elegance of diction. And a bloodthirsty pirate.'
Oh they don't make movies like this anymore. The acting, the story, the attention to details, and the practical effects. Yes they don't make movies like this anymore and its a real shame. The latest Beetlejuce movie is very close to that magic but not quite there.
Jason Issacs plays quite an awesome Hook but Dustin Hoffman is Hook. I love both but when I imagine Hook I see Dustin Hoffman. He has the formidability, cruelity, charm, charisma, the goofiness, drama, style that cannot be rivaled.
The Boo Box is such an ingenious move on the writer's part. It's one thing to show children being afraid of Captain Hook, but to have a fully grown man (skillfully played by none other than Glenn Close), be absolutely PETRIFIED of him, is great story telling, without ever having to bold face exposition. The man is a walking nightmare. The Boogeyman incarnate.
The version of Mr smee from this film sure seemed different from the one in the Disney film where he was merely a bumbling sidekick and the pirate crew didn't respect him at all. Must be because the film is closer to the original book.
Dustin Hoffman’s Performance As Hook is STILL Fantastic and I Loved This Movie When I Was Younger and Still Love It To This Day!
1:35 Anyone who has seen this movie will NEVER forget the soundtrack for this part. The first glimpse... of the Hook!
And the way the _Jolly Roger_ is dramatically revealed with John Williams’s stirring pirate music rising and stomping and crashing with glee. The project was originally intended as a musical, and scenes like this feel very much like it. The pirates already have a chorus going.
Hoffman did the most accurate portrayal of Hook, who was intended by Barry to look like Charles II.
The music is insane in this masterpiece of talent!
John Williams
Hoffman and Hoskins were a PERFECT duo in this movie 😁
Like an old, married couple. Love it to bits! The epiphany scene is one of my favorite parts because it's just those two.

Even though Spielberg himself doesn’t believe it, it stands as one of his finest works of all time.
It just has some tonal inconsistencies, but nothings perfect
1:35 : Love the cheeky smile he's got after his exchange with the pirate. Shows you that the mischevious kid is still here, even after all those years.
Love when Hook says “You.” and they all point at themselves like “Me?”😂
It is realistic
Was initially skeptical of Dustin Hoffman playing Captain Hook but was pleasantly surprised by his performance.
He actually fit with cartoon capitan hook.
He was the best live-action Hook ever.
Terribly underrated, one of the best movie villain portrayals ever
This hook that captain Hook wears in this movie is the most beautiful hook I have ever seen in a Peter Pan movie.
The Boo Box scared the s*** out of me when I was a kid.
I thought it was funny until I knew what Scorpions did.
Same here - still scares the s*** as an adult

Did the scorpions kill or torture to death?

Took me years to realize that was Glenn Close herself.
Rest easy, Robin.

Dang, Tink must've had her Wheaties, the way she beat those pirates!
I LOVE the score to this scene. And the "boo box" part with Glenn Close.
Did anyone notice that Peter had to get Tinker Bell's name right just for her to come rescue him? He gets the name wrong twice, but then says it properly and WHAM!
That's how you know deep down he hasn't completely forgotten who he is.
@@WestLegend03 Good point.
Until I got older I never new "Good morning Neverland!" was a nod to Good Morning Vietnam starring Williams.
It still shocks me to this day that Glenn Close played the pirate who was put in the Boo Box - amazing hair and makeup!

Captain Hook's Theme is an amazing piece. It is playful, yet sinister.

I like the green glow in the cabin when Smee enters to deliver the hook. Almost like Hook is supernatural.
