I remember several years ago heroin addiction destroyed my life, I suffered from severe depression and a mental disorder until I was recommended to psilocybin mushroom treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly I'm 8 years clean now. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He's 59 & has many mental health issues plus probably CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone.

This past April, my mother passed away from alcohol related issues.
We are, Apache Native Americans, so alcoholism runs in our families.
It was such a horrible process to see what she went through but sadly she was never able to stop despite doctors telling her numerous times. It had even caused her to lose a couple of really good jobs.
I like a good drink every once in a while, but I use her as an example to not let it control me.

Hey, I've been sober for 6 months after being a high functioning alcoholic for 20+ years (the kind where no-one questions your drinking because you can hold down a job and keep your appointments, etc).
After living in fear of never having enough booze for decades I just got to the point where the negatives vastly outweighed any perceived benefit.
Quitting can be a tough road, but so far it has totally been worth it.

As a recovering alcoholic that started drinking since 15 (34 now) alcohol has never brought me anything good in my life and it was a constant struggle to leave since I was always chasing that first time high. Im lucky to not of hurt anybody and not of end up dead through all the stupid things ive gone thru because of alcohol. Its just straight up poison in my eyes and many horrible things have been linked to it (fatal accidents, domestic violence, child abuse, assault, liver disease, cancer... list goes on). I was an alcoholic throughout my 20's and early 30's, and my life was an absolute wreck. My house was filthy, I was driving drunk, buying entire bottles of wine/liquor or huge packs of beer after work. I'd even plan out my evening to make the buzz last all night. It was pathetic. I finally hit rock bottom when my rental sold out from under me and I was faced with cleaning it out. It was horrific, and I couldn't believe how I let it get that bad. Bottles and trash everywhere. I looked in the mirror and I was toeing the scale at nearly 200lbs from all the booze and junk food. I didn't recognize myself. I managed to quit cold turkey then and there, even though it was extremely rough. I just took it one day at a time, and forgave myself for days where I slipped up and had a drink. I've been completely sober for 3 years now, and after joining a gym last year, I've lost 40lbs so far! Here's to another sober, healthy year 😊

My sister-in-law is a heavy alcoholic, and has been struggling with alcohol addiction since she was ONLY 13 years old (yes, you read that right), and is at HIGH risk of dying due to alcohol poisoning.
She was very severely abused by her biological father throughout the first 7 years of her life, and it caused her so much tremendous pain brought on by several mental health issues, including alcohol and drug addictions.

Drinking was fun from about 18-26 when I'd go out to town with my friends but as I got older the hangovers got worse and worse. My tolerance increased so I drank more but sometimes I drank too much and got into some silly and more serious situations. In the end it's just not enjoyable anymore so I gave up. It's much nicer staying in on a Saturday night and not having a hangover on Sundays. It's getting so expensive as well.

I 've been an alcoholic for 30 years. I used to be a happy bar fly. I really liked to go out. Now, I'm in that stage that I can't even bother to go outside for anything but groceries. I could have died last year, I didn't.
Maybe this year... Well, hope not, I do have some great friends and family, my new years resolutions and my health check-ups.

I never liked the taste of champagne after one sip. And I recently made a cough syrup using bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, and honey. While making it, the whiskey smelt like rubbing alcohol (and that is before I add the honey). Nobody in my immediate family drinks, but my paternal grandparents would drink occasionally when visiting them.

I was on a cruise two months ago and normally I don’t drink a lot but I got the drink package and took advantage of that and couldn’t drink anymore on my final night of that cruise. It turned me off alcohol so much I didn’t drink til after the New Years countdown and I only took a single shot of some homemade alcohol with friends just to ring in the new years. I know next time I go on a cruise I shouldn’t get too excessive with drinking, even with a drink package.

I found out the hard way that it didn't work. I started to deal with depression and my alcohol use increased and I began to need it daily. I finally stopped at 32 years old. I'm 37 now.

I've never taken a drink, but the effects of alcohol I have felt include not being able to go on a class trip to Washington, D.C. nor another to Germany because the non-custodial father I had failed to pay any child support for 15 consecutive years, while he drank heavily every day. I have no bitterness though, because when as a young adult, I finally spent a few weeks with him, and after seeing what his alcoholism was like, I was grateful that I grew up not with him, but in the home I had.

I have since developed a gi disease, the last time I had any was a year ago I had a 6oz glass of bubbly on our wedding anniversary our daughter gifted us. I burped wine bubbles for days. In my experience alcohol causes so much trouble. I use it to cook with for some French recipes and I make Brandy slush at Xmas for the big family party. I stick with Ginger Ale or Club Soda

This is why you should limit alcohol. And for some reason my doctor tells me to stop drinking entirely. That's a pretty tall order. I did lower the amount of saké I drank. That stuff was stronger than I thought and I learned that the hard way when I could barely walk. I should have known why saké cups are small. Cutting the dosage in half removed most of the side effects.
Well decreased fertility is the least of my problems. I used to drink more often thinking it could be beneficial to my health in low doses.
I have fatty liver disease but I don't think alcohol is directly responsible for that since I don't drink heavily. I might need to improve my diet. If going cold turkey is dangerous then at least lower the dosage.
