Duck Hunt seems crazy but is a super easy concept. When you click the trigger the whole screen goes black for a frame. Then in the next single frame a square around the duck goes white. IF the sensor in the gun sees the white light on the black screen it means you had the gun pointed at the duck because it was able to sense the white square on the black screen.
NES was my first system and the Mario/duck hunt was my first game but being born in 1987 I think I missed the big chunk of NES games. My main systems growing up was sega genesis and SNES until the PS1 came out
